Oh you could do all of it but, other than taking a few key potions (mainly Cat, Swallow, and Golden Oriole), I never bothered with anything else. Heck, I never crafted any items and simply upgraded my gear when I either found something better or had enough orens to buy new weapons/armor. I also never used any traps or explosives during my Easy playthrough.

Gotcha. Yeah, you do still have to access the menus (especially if you want to save every so often during a quest) but it's not really required for you to be so inventory-intensive.

This thread actually got me finally playing the first game (I was turned off by the mouse click combat the last time I tried to play it) and simultaneously playing the second game on Normal.

I actually don't find combat all that difficult anymore in TW2, despite playing on Normal. Yes, when swarmed (which happens every so often), Geralt goes down quickly. However, I've learned to evade when fighting groups and use magic (like Igni) to separate my enemies and punish them from a distance while I dispatch foes one by one (or two at a time, at the most). Truth be told, the combat mechanics in the second game feel very true to the books and I get the intent behind the potion making/use and bestiary data collecting. The higher difficulties demand you study up on your opponents so you prepare what you need before you go into battle or areas where you expect certain monsters to roam (based on what you've learned about them).

If anyone here is playing Witcher 2 on PC there's a handy mod that gets makes all items weightless. No more messing around in the inventory and menus :)

One minor correction. The inns you visit throughout the games have storage chests where you can stash all your excess items (with no limit as to how much you can leave in them). Also, gear stashed in one storage chest can be accessed from a different one. So if you left stuff in FLotsam, as long as it's in a storage chest, you can access it all at the next game location.

If you own the first two games on PC, register them on GoG. Then you can preorder this game for $35.99 on GoG. Oh and it doesn't matter where you bought them. I got the first two on Amazon (a few years ago) and still qualified for the deal.

In terms of platforms, it looks like there is no platform exclusive in-game content, but the Xbox One version of the CE comes with a cloth map of the game world along with two decks for the card game Gwent. Gwent is a card game that also appears within Witcher 3, with players battling head-to-head using spell and character cards. PC and PS4 are 1080p, and XBO is 900p. All are 30fps.

Game looks great. Loving the foliage...and them hair physics!

I think all of the collector's editions come with the same stuff. The statue looks pretty cool. $150 is pretty steep though.

Several sources have XBO getting a cloth map and the others a paper map.

As far as exclusives for marketing deals go, it's one of the least annoying I've seen.

Well, if you have beefy enough hardware, sure. It's also whatever resolution you want to play it at, they don't restrict it to 1080p (rare, but sometimes resolution restrictions happen on PC).

Eh Farmville runs on Flash, by default that means it requires more resources than Doom 3 or Half-life 2.

It doesn't need to be super beefy. The Witcher games are programmed to automatically configure to your hardware specs (though you do have the option to tweak to your heart's content). So you can still achieve 60fps without all the higher end graphical advances.

It's none of that PC Master Race bullshit. Was just making a correction to your statement. Heck, I play The Witcher 2 on Medium Spec so it's not like I have a high end system.

Truth be told, I expected the PS4/XB1 versions to run at 60fps as well.

Sure, you can dumb down the settings to get 60 FPS, but there's going to be a trade off. Also if you want to run at 1080P with medium or better quality, it's going to take a pretty decent system to get 60fps.

Not at all. I game at 1080p/60fps and Medium spec (which the game chose for me) looks great. Raptr tried to push my settings higher but I opted to keep things at the Medium spec the game chose because I didn't notice any real improvement with the Raptr "optimized" settings.

And my system is hardly beefy.

As you can see, I am using a pretty basic rig for gaming. And The Witcher 2 is a notorious resource hog. I'm sure you can run this new game just fine.

Oh, my bad, I didn't know you've already benchmarked your system with Witcher 3, never mind then. Also other than your GPU being fairly old, you have a pretty high end system. Upgrade your GPU to something like the R9 290X and you'd be able to play at close to max settings in Witcher 3, and definitely max in Witcher 2.

Sorry, no. I benchmarked my system with The Witcher 2. I singled out that game because supposedly The Witcher 3 is far more optimized. Out of curiosity, I tried Maximum spec for The Witcher 2 on my rig and I was getting sub-30fps. I used the auto detect which scaled me back to Medium. Even on Maximum (staying still) I didn't see much of a boost graphics-wise and the drop in fps was not worth it.

Might be getting in to too much PC tinkering talk that pisses off the console folks, but anyway... graphics card seems like the only thing worth upgrading. CPU tech hasn't progressed much since Sandy Bridge, and honestly you could overclock your CPU to over 4 GHZ and be set. Going from an i5 to an i7 hasn't really been worth it for gaming either.

I'm not so technologically savvy that I'd ever bother with overclocking. So I'll play it safe and keep the default settings of my processor.

As for a card, any recommendations? As I mentioned, I've no interest in going beyond 1080p. I don't have a 4K TV (and won't buy one until the spec is truly finalized, what with Rec. 2020 still being more of an ideal than a reality and whatnot) and from what I've read, even with multiple cards, 4K gaming still isn't exactly all that smooth and hassle free. So I just need a robust single card solution that will allow me to push the graphics as close to max as possible whilst still achieving 60fps. And of course, something that doesn't break the bank. ;)

If you wanted to stay with AMD, you could get an 290x like flashburn suggested. AMD is releasing their new line in June sometime, so it might be worth waiting to see how good those cards are from a price/performance standpoint.

On the NVIDIA side, the GTX 970 is a great 1080p GPU.

All good. Your system is definitely GPU limited at 1920x1080, probably for all games. The R9 290X would probably double your frame rate, maybe more in some cases. You can wait for the R9 390X in June, but it will probably be $400-$600 (maybe more?). Versus under $300 for the 290X. Even if you don't overclock, unless we start seeing some very highly optimized PC games better utilizing multiple threads, your i5 should last you quite a while. Hell, I'm still on a i5 2500K (Overclocked to 4.2ghz), and I'm GPU limited in most cases with the 290X still.

Back to Witcher 3. This looks really good. I never could get into the previous ones. I think I lasted maybe an hour in the first one, and several hours in the 2nd, but the combat just wore tiresome to me. I know they revamped the combat, so I hope it's a lot better.

Yeah, combat in The Witcher is a chore. And it feels exacerbated by the fetch quests. I much prefer combat in The Witcher 2 but feel they overdid it with the amount of enemies that attack you (particularly an early side quest where you're ambushed by a seeming endless horde of Nekkers). It also doesn't help that Geralt can only parry while standing still. Or in the case of an early boss fight, that he jogs as leisurely as Nathan Drake (my only consistent gripe with the Uncharted games).

It seems Geralt can now move while guarding/parrying and he seems far more agile in the videos I've seen (even if he still looks like he jogs instead of running out of the way of an attack). I also like that they finally included Roach in these games. A horse will definitely help, given it's now an open world game.
