Re: Have you finished the original Super Mario Bros.?

I don't think it was the first game I finished (I think that was Legend of Zelda). But yes, I certainly did finish all levels, start to finish. Still hate the damn water stages though. I always tried to finish my games back then, well except for the Mega Man games, only finished the 2nd one. I loved playing them, but there was always one level that screwed me five ways to sunday.

Finished it when I was a kid - both using the quickest route through warps and going world by world all the way through.

Don't know how many times I finished that game back in the 80's, when I was considered the "gaming guru" at school. I think the last time I played through it was 2003, and the last castle gave me fits. I know I could do it again today, but probably nowhere near as efficiently as I could before.

Yeah, miserable game. Nintendo made the right choice in releasing the faux Super Mario 2 in North America.

Anyone who hasn't finished Mario should just turn in their gamer card. A soccer mom card will be issued in it's place.

I never finished the game as a kid. I actually went back a few years ago to finish the final castle and I used a Youtube Walkthrough. Yes I have no shame

Yes, but only once if I remember correctly. It was so long ago, and then I went on to play other games.

I'd add that it depends in age, but yeah, anyone under 30 who hasn't finished it should turn in their gamer card and be done.

You mean over 30, right? I imagine most teenage gamers have never even seen an NES, let alone played one.

Re: Have you finished the original Super Mario Bros.?

I bought Nintendo's How to Win at Super Mario Bros guide as a kid. It was the only way I could ever have hoped to finish it. And even then, it took me months.

Yeah, my bad. Traveling and posting from my phone, so more prone to not catch typos.

Re: Have you finished the original Super Mario Bros.?

I remember my parents never wanting me to get a console. Not a big deal but damnit I loved those things. I loved Mario a lot though. I was like 4 or 5 when I beat it at one of my cousins' homes. That was 1991. Epic time for me. I beat SMW in a Walmart when that thing came out. I don't remember why my mom was taking so long with something there but it was enough that she was bitching out customer service about it. Anyway...it was like 5 hours. And nobody moved me away from the SNES. So I beat it.

I fucking love SMW a lot. My fav Mario game.

Re: Have you finished the original Super Mario Bros.?

I don't remember how many times I beat it, but back then I probably only had (2) games, this and duck hunt for the first year of owning an NES, and those were a pack in on the same cart. I spent hours perfecting the extra lives trick of jumping on the turtle shell on one of the stairs, getting the (lost levels?) warp on level 1-2, etc. It's silly how many games I have now thinking back to just having that one game when I was younger.

Re: Have you finished the original Super Mario Bros.?

I owned an NES, and the Super Mario Bros/Duck Hunt combo cart came with it. Payed SMB a lot, but I never beat it as far as I can remember. I did end up beating SMB2 and SMB3 on NES though, then Super Mario World on SNES. I bought Super Mario All Stars for SNES as well, but I don't think I bothered to try and beat SMB or Lost Levels on it.
