"H1Z1" announced. Zombie survival MMO from SOE, based on Planetside 2 engine
So this new game H1Z1 was announced yesterday. It's basically a big budget iteration of the DayZ style multiplayer zombie survival game. It's looking really good so far, and it's based on the Planetside 2 engine so the goal is to have a massive, seamless version of the United States hosting thousands of players at once. There will be crafting a la Star Wars Galaxies and base building. John Smedley basically wants it to be like a Walking Dead MMO game. Best part is early access will be out within a month or so!! The game will begin with a smaller midwest region and expand over time.
Planetside 2 was excellent so I'm really looking forward to this, since DayZ standalone is such a marginal experience, and I don't think it will ever amount to more.
Here's is first gameplay footage and interview. It should be noted the footage is about two months old but was only recently released. This is all a very strange way to announce a game, but whatever:

Looks interesting using the Planetside 2 roadmap system but it's just for PC right now. Us PS4 players are still waiting on Planetside 2 period.

I'm with K&A on SOE. Talk to me when you get Planetside 2 running on PS4.
Apparently that engine is very CPU dependent, and all of the PS4's power is in the GPU.
SOE, fix your shit.

Looks kind of neat, i'm surprised it took so long for someone to make a real zombie survival MMO. My friends at work were really in to Day Z when it came out, but lost interest quickly so i'd be curious how this one plays out and the longevity of it. Although personally, I don't think any MMO's out of SOE other then EQ has been particularly great or successful.

The zombie survival genre doesn't really lend itself to long term character and community building, which is the draw of traditional MMOs.

Rick Grimes says "Boy, the zombies around the prison sure are threatening the fence. If you slay 10 of them I will give you DEPUTY HAT (+10 Stamina)."

I always imagined a full on Zombie Apocalypse Simulator. One where they fill the game world with say 5 million zombies and the players are the survivors. No NPC humans. But If you get eaten by a Zombie, it adds to the NPC Zombie count.
You would have to re-build a community and work together. Make actual jobs for people to do during the day such as reconstructing buildings, Hunt and gather food, re-build government, Actual Farming, Police, etc etc. And by Night clear the surrounding streets of any Zombies and Bandits. If the community fails to re-build in a set time limit, Developers crash the servers and everyone has to start from scratch.

Joined the early access last night, too bad the login server was hosed and couldn't play.
Jumped in for a few minutes before work this morning. Feels like a more polished and optimized version of DayZ.

There's already some controversy with this game regarding airdrops, which can be bought with real money. The airdrops may drop close to the person who called the drop, making this essentially pay-to-win.
The developers mentioned on their Youtube channel just 3 days prior to launch that you wouldn't be able to buy weapons/ammo. A lot of people are upset.
