Earthlock (Xbox One) is Free for owners of Earthlock: Festival of Magic (former Games with Gold)

If you own Earthlock: Festival of Magic (Xbox One) you can now install the new Earthlock (Xbox One) game for Free.

Earthlock: Festival of Magic (Xbox One) was one of the Games with Gold freebies for September 2016, so you might already own it.

Either go to here and click Install on Xbox One or via your Xbox One console search for Earthlock in the store and press Install.

Note, you can't actually buy the new version for free, but if you own the old game you will be able to install the new one at no extra cost.

Installed Earthlock, thanks!

I'm getting a Game Pass offer for $1 for the first month. I guess that's better than the $5 month, but not the multiple $5 months.

Anyone have any issues playing Blu-ray discs? I have the weirdest damn issue. Friday Night Lights BD. Season 1, Disc 1. If I hit "play all" it plays fine. If I try and go to the "Episode Select" menu, the damn thing just goes black. Can't back out to the main menu or anything.

This issue is on the Slim. The same disc plays fine in the PS4.

I think I’ve missed one month of Xbox Live freebies since they started. Must have been that month....

If the Duke weren't enough for you, there's an officially licensed OG Xbox skin for the X:

I noticed that I didn't originally have an "install" option via the website, so I had to make sure I was fully signed in on the site. After that, the "buy" button was still there, but there was a separate "install" button.

This is what it looks like to me:

Sort of. It's via a third party rather the Microsoft themselves, so it's limited to a wired connection. Some other minor changes/enhancements too.

They should have been added to the backwards compatibility list over the last few weeks.

https://news.xbox.com/en-us/2018/04/...-april-update/

And there hasn't been any announcements since about additions that I'm aware of.

Forgive me if this has been addressed before, but how come XBox doesn't let you buy backwards compatible games using your Microsoft money?

I have over $50 in MS Money, but if I were to try purchasing a 360 backwards compatible game, it always directs me to my credit card on checkout. They only seem to let you use it on XBox One digital games.

Quite a few already are. Go to https://www.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-one/...-compatibility and click on "Original Xbox Games" for a list.

It's due to the switch from points to money on 360, and the fact that they didn't originally anticipate people buying 360 games on the XB1. When BC first came out, you couldn't buy 360 games on XB1 at all.

If you use the website, you'll notice that XB1 game purchases are through the Microsoft Store, while 360 purchases are still through a separate, 360-only, store. They never implemented using points/credit to buy via the website, and don't look like they plan to. for the XB1, they just added to website purchase interface to that console.

If you have an actual 360, you can buy using MS money on the 360 console, but that's the only way to do it.

It's been a known issue forever, but MS doesn't seem that inclined to fix it.

I think I got stuck on Enslaved and never finished. I'd be up for trying it again at some point.

Does MS not own the rights to all their games and thus this slow roll out of all these backwards compatible games? Can’t they make them all bc?

What do you mean by "their games"?

If you mean, "any and every game ever released on an Xbox console," then no, MS doesn't own the rights to every Xbox game ever. The majority were made and published by third party developers and publishers, and MS licensed them for a specific console. For XB1 BC, MS and the developer/publisher have to come to a new license agreement. That takes time.

Additionally, there are sometimes issues with music that was licensed for the game, or the fact that the game was based on an existing comic/TV show/movie property and needs a license for that.

For the games that they actually "own," i.e games developed in-house and/or published by Microsoft, they've released a large number of the 360 games via BC already.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_o...games#Xbox_360

Aside from licensing though, there's also Q&A and development for BC. Each game has to be packaged up for the emulator, and then extensively tested for any issues. If there's issues, then they may have to make changes/fixes to the emulator to address them, then test the game again. This takes time and labor, and MS is only assigning a finite amount of both to the BC team. So they can only test so many games at once, and thus release only so many titles, on average, a week.

Re: Xbox One: S $249 Now / X $499 November 7 2017

Pretty fantastic. Every now and then they keep pulling out a title you'd never think had a chance at this point.

This + Paradise Remastered is a pretty killer combo on one machine.

It's due to the switch from points to money on 360, and the fact that they didn't originally anticipate people buying 360 games on the XB1. When BC first came out, you couldn't buy 360 games on XB1 at all.
Whatever the historical reasoning, MS has no excuse for not having bothered to fix this by now. When you buy an Xbox card at retail, it's labeled just that - Xbox credit - with absolutely no indication that an entire section of the library is walled off. Oh, and we now know that they very much could have anticipated this situation. It's been revealed that BC was always in the pipeline - they just couldn't get it ready anywhere close to launch, especially with the focus on Kinect and that idiot Mattrick making the decisions.
