Smite is a Free-To-Play MOBA and the Gold Bundle doesn't look to be a thing in the online store (there is an Ultimate God bundle though). In either case, really not appealing to me (though at least I don't already have it).

Hey All
Was browsing around for game news and saw something on my favorite game series, Gears of War that was wondering what is or will be the reaction from E3....
Gears of War 5 And Gears of War Battle Royale To Be Revealed At E3 2018
https://www.gamepur.com/news/29148-g...e-e3-2018.html
According to Polygon, Microsoft and The Coalition are about to introduce three different Gears of War video games at E3 2018 next week. Not just one, so: three, from three different genres.
Based on the information gathered from the website, these games are Gears of War 5 – the second chapter in the JD Fenix saga -, a battle royale title set in the same universe, and a real time strategy game in the likes of Halo Wars.
I can see (5) and even a strategy base but not quite sure on the Battle Royal part...I still need to finish GoW4....

I'd be down with a cart racer. Toss in Master Chief, some Gears people, the Forza car, the Fable guy, a Crackdown guy, the Sunset Overdrive guy, Alan Wake, etc. It basically sells itself!

Info on the 5 studios MS bought
The Initiative. Based in Santa Monica, Calif., The Initiative is a brand-new Microsoft game development studio headed by industry veteran Darrell Gallagher that is working to create groundbreaking new worlds, characters and game experiences.
Playground Games. Microsoft has acquired U.K.-based Playground Games, a development partner since 2010 that has helped grow the Forza franchise to new heights. In addition to its work on this year’s Forza Horizon 4, Playground Games will have a team dedicated to bringing their open-world expertise to an entirely new project.
Ninja Theory. The relationship between Ninja Theory and Microsoft started in 2000 when Kung Fu Chaos was in development for the original Xbox and culminated in the release of Hellblade on Xbox One earlier this year. Microsoft’s intent to acquire Ninja Theory will help ensure the creative team has the resources and freedom to bring more ambitious games like Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice to fans.
Undead Labs. Seattle-based Undead Labs is the creator of the popular State of Decay franchise, enjoyed by millions of fans worldwide. In the first two weeks since State of Decay 2 launched, more than two million fans joined the fight to survive and took down more than two billion zombies. By entering into a letter of intent to acquire Undead Labs, Microsoft is signaling its commitment to growing the franchise and taking the zombie survival-fantasy genre to new
Compulsion Games. As We Happy Few nears its full, multiplatform release on Aug. 10, Microsoft has entered into a letter of intent to acquire Montreal-based Compulsion Games. By joining the team at Microsoft Studios, Compulsion will have the resources, platform and freedom to take even bigger creative risks and create even more ambitious worlds with its future projects.

Playground and Undead Labs doesn't seem like too big of a deal since they really only made Xbox games anyway. Ninja Theory is a big one since I think they make the type of games that Microsoft has certainly been lacking, and they have a bit of history with Sony. Hopefully they're treated well, this video seems positive.

I know Corvin mentioned being worried because of Microsoft, but the flip side is seeing smaller studios completely go under which they kind of address in the video. I just hope Microsoft, unlike the studios that just pump out Gears or Halo, that they let them do something unique the way Sony does with their's. They seem to be saying and making the right moves, and recognizing the "exclusives" problem.

Good point. I'm hopeful but skeptical. Phil Spencer did specifically say something about how the studios they acquired would have artistic freedom... Should be interesting to see what they come up with.

Watched the video. It's nice, but I'm still skeptical. Everything they say they are and want to do and accomplish as a company seems antithetical to the way MS operates. Also, they're severely cutting their potential userbase significantly with MS lagging so far behind.
The video even existing is kind of... well, odd. Having to explain why you 'sold out' is kinda weird. Are they trying to convince the fans, or themselves?
Sea of Theives, their first real game in a decade. Not exactly the powerhouse they once were.

I think the video exists because they know that there's a lot of Playstation only buyers that would be disappointed, so it explains why they agreed to a MS purchase. Just looking at some of the comments on the YouTube video I saw a few in that boat that were supportive because it's less about "indie company sells out" and more "hey we now have backing to do what we've always wanted to."
But yeah, MS has to prove that they're not going to get to involved to the detriment of the company and their creativity.

I'm not liking this idea if true
"Microsoft is planning for the next Xbox console release to arrive in 2020. But what is more interesting, is that Microsoft describes ‘Scarlett’ as a family of devices; meaning we may see multiple pieces of hardware released that year."

Multiple pieces of hardware could mean a lot of things, I'm not sure what there is to not like about it... yet. Given they touched on streaming at E3 and playing console quality games everywhere, my initial guess is having a traditional console and also maybe streaming only type boxes.

Yeah, they've been working on a streaming-only kind of box (or a box with no disc drive anyway) for a long time according to Thurrott and others in the know. Seems like they've finally made some advancements to make it viable... by 2020. Heh.
One thing's for certain, though... whatever the next console is, you can pretty much guarantee that it'll be fully backwards compatible with everything that works on the XO today. MS seems to actually care, as a company, about preserving the ability to play legacy games on current hardware. For all their other faults (and depending on who you ask, there are many) it's one of the few things that they seem to be passionate about now.

I would love Switch-type hardware of the next Xbox. Playing on my TV / projector is #1... but if I could take some of my games on trips, that'd be fantastic.
