Re: Xbox One: S $249 Now / X $499 November 7 2017
so, i may have asked this before and i do apologize if have or has been talked about...but if i got an X, what do i have to do first to One before shutting it down?
i am talking in terms of transferring all my games, data, login info, all that. i have a 2Tb hard drive attached that is just about 50% full.
and it's all same connections right? 1 HDMI, does it have port for Kinect?
thanks.

Back up your system settings to the external HDD and you should be good to go. Same ports, HDMI in, HDMI out, Kinect plug. And no power brick this time thankfully.
My Xbox One X royally fucked me - - it downloaded a shit ton of 4K patches and pushed me over 1TB of data which incurred me an overage charge. I'm usually less than half that per month without any attempt to limit downloading at all. As it is now I will have to wait until Thanksgiving to download Assassin Creed Origins. Probably another month to do X- Com 2. Sucks

So, the patches are auto? Can’t not update game? How do you back up system settings? And what about all games on my internal hard drive? And ones that “can be installed”? They’ll still be there to download when want?

Here's the answer about backing up
Back up your settings on Xbox One
Backing up settings is a great way to simplify setup on any Xbox—whether that’s a new Xbox or your current one (for instance, if you decide to reset it and start over). This saves your account settings and key system settings, which your new Xbox will apply during setup.
Backups do not include settings for things that might be different on your new Xbox, such as console name or the ability to control a specific TV.
Connect a USB storage device to your existing Xbox One, Xbox One S, or Xbox One X.
Storage must be USB 3.0 or faster and 256 GB or larger. Make sure it’s designated for use with Xbox One games and apps.
Go to Settings > System > Backup & transfer > Back up my settings and follow the on-screen instructions to save your backup to your storage.
Before turning on the Xbox you want to set up, connect that storage to the new console.
Start the new Xbox and follow the on-screen instructions.
If the new Xbox is already set up and you want to configure it using the backed-up settings from your other Xbox, keep the storage device connected and go to Settings > System > Console info and choose Reset console

I'm glad Cox Communications here just recently introduced data caps with a "grace" period before charging, and lucky also that my billing cycle came a few days after the Xbox One X released so I could download a bunch of the 4K assets before a new month.
But yeah, I moved everything on my original Xbox One to my external hard drive, plugged in the drive to my One X, and I was up and running pretty quickly. Not too shabby.
Meanwhile, haven't done much with the sale but decided to go ahead and get Dead Rising 4 tonight. Figured for $16 it would be nice to have another Xbox One X Enhanced title, not sure if I should get the Season Pass yet although for $4 its at the "why not?" range. South Park is the only other title i'm interested in that I don't already own.

Child of Eden is solid. Not quite as good as Rez, but still good.
Back to the Future was decent. Fun story and voice work, but average gameplay.

I hate that Back to the Future game. I don't think I've played through a more boring videogame.

^ Yeah, Telltale before they worked the bugs out of their licensed titles.
And to be fair, their Monkey Island game was no better.
what was really weird and dishonest is that they re-released their BTTF game at the 30th Anniversary Edition on the X1 and PS4 when it's a straight-up port, un-enhanced version of the last-gen games. No improvements at all.
Whatever that Marlow Briggs game is, it's gotta be pretty damn obscure. I've never even heard of it (and I try to stay up on recent and current releases).

I only have a handful of games that are enhanced (Infinite Warfare, World War II, Fallout 3, Gears of War 3, Gears of War 4, Halo 3, Halo 5, Halo Wars 2, Star Wars Battlefront II, and Titanfall 2) and a few that are on the way of being updated (Doom, Fallout 4, Minecraft, and Rocket League), but I have (thankfully) not gone over my data caps yet.
10/03 - 11/02: 772GB of data used on Cox.
11/03 - now: 348GB of data used on Cox.
Activision began preloads for WW2 in early October at a 45GB download and then smacked a 10GB update specifically of 4K assets a week prior to the game's release date.

I'm SO far over my limit for my month (which thankfully finally ends today). The CS rep agreed to waive this month's overage since it's double any previous month and I was unaware of the new cap. But this Xbox One X with its automatically downloading massive patches has really screwed things up for me.

I really don't want to be that asshole, but Microsoft launched the ability for users to enable the download of 4K assets weeks prior to the launch of the X. I made sure to enable the feature the moment went live specifically because I have Cox and I wanted to ensure I didn't want to kill my data cap the moment I unboxed my X.

Not that Avatars are much of a thing anymore, but have a free BB-9E companion!

X owners: check your Xbox Live messages. I just got a code from MS for the Lego Batman Movie in 4K for being an early adopter (sure beats that Day One achievement from 2013!)
Only downside is it's on their platform, not UV.

So I do want an X. I have in my possession a Scorpio Edition that I've not had the time (or conviction) to open yet. I keep wondering if I should just sell it and go buy a basic edition and pocket the difference or if I should just keep it.
I don't care for the green lettering much at all and I doubt I'd use the vertical stand. But the thought of putting the effort into selling it on eBay just makes me sleepy.

^ Just keep it. How much are they selling for on eBay (like, actual sales, not ones that are stagnant)?
I can't imagine you'd make much profit off of the whole ordeal. Not to mention the risk of getting scammed by a shitty buyer. You can use this to see what it would take to make anything:
