Since both consoles are starting out with a Day 1 update, and PS4 has one a week post release. Let's see how they do in the first month...

My sentiments exactly. At least mine went quick today at 5 minutes. Hopefully, in the future, the PS4 will update it overnight.

As for xbox it's harder to tell. MS doesn't update nearly as often but with the launch clearly lacking features, we could see a couple.

I wanted to vote for "over 1 million", but I was disappointed to find that wasn't an option. I guess 5+ will have to do.

MS has been pretty consistent with Surface firmware updates, so I expect at least a couple no matter what. But since there's some key functionality that needs to be patched in, I think 3 to 5 is accurate.

Sony will continue their trend of a constant stream of updates, so more than 5 for sure.

What I'm worried about is the odd update that temporarily or permanently bricks some systems in this new world of "automatic updates during standby." I'm sure it'll all be fine, but if a bad update gets installed automatically on most systems overnight, that could be quite a problem.

No, just saw that there was a 1.51 already for PS4 and was grumbling about updates.

Also, forgot to mention that the 1-2 is NOT inclusive of the day 1 patch for either console.

That's easy, just don't turn your console on until the next update, which in Sony's case will be somewhere between 2 and 24 hours later.

I put in 3-5 for PS4 but probably feel it'll be that for the XO as well. And don't forget the games either.

Not sure how the Xbox One will do it, but the PS4 holds the update until you're there to apply it.

I think we will see PS4 2.00 before Christmas. In about 3 revisions.

PS4 - 2 updates (not including Day One)
Xbone - 1 update (not including Day One)

I know it's not a new console, but the Vita had a firmware update this week as well.

I've crunched the numbers and here's the current tally if you include Day One:

PS4 - 3 updates
Xbox One - 2 updates
