That's what I ended up doing. It really was a pain in the ass. I am surprised Benevolent Leader is only a bronze trophy.

Ammo can be a bit of a pain. Vendors don't seem to start carrying larger quantities of the good stuff until you reach later levels. I just decided on a few types to stick with and sold everything else to fund my ammo shopping sprees.

The .38 ammo is ridiculously prevalent when looting bodies. I never used any of those weapons since for my Gunslinger based character, .38 was outclassed by the 10mm Pistol you get in the opening Vault area. I'd just trade a few hundred .38 for as much 10mm, .45, or .44 as I could, and tried to either walk away with a profit, or without spending more than a handful of caps.

.45 becomes fairly common not tooo far into the game. Stuff like .44 and .50 are still in relatively low supply even in the level 30+ range for me.

Re: Fallout 4

Here is a really good video with building tips. At the 4:23 mark he talks about the trade routes with settlers.

Re: Fallout 4

Thanks everyone for the tips on ammo. I got the scrounger perk which made a big difference.

From what I can tell, weapons don't seem to degrade like they did in the previous games. Am I wrong?

They do not. Which is the best improvement. For the first few hours I kept holding on to multipes till I realized they don't break

Re: Fallout 4

I'm at level 29 - probably nowhere near finished with the game. I'm just working on my weapons and armor upgrades and perking up, as well.

Been doing lots of clean up missions for that prick at the police station.

May just continue to build on my settlements instead. Don't want to get too carried away with Danse.

Haha. I did the exact same thing. I don't know if I miss it or not. It sure was an easy way to lighten your load by fixing your guns. But I guess it was a pain in the ass. But now you have to hoard every goddamn thing in sight which is a new pain in the ass.

Re: Fallout 4

They probably realized pretty early on that inventory clutter was getting out of control between junk for breaking down and repairing weapons/armor.

That's one thing I'm glad they got rid of.

I'm about 80 hours in now, and while I like it and it's fun, it's not the Fallout game I want. They continue to remove more and more of the RPG elements from the game and it bums me out.

It isn't just a new pain... it is a much bigger and more complex pain in the ass, with many more variables. At first, I really missed the simplicity of fixing a gun with one of like type. It really was easier.

Re: Fallout 4

When I leave diamond city, I get my ass handed to me. I'm pretty much broke, weak, and pathetic.

Gonna have to figure out how to level up quick. "Very easy" my ass.

Re: Fallout 4

I spent a few hours leveling up by improving settlements. Yeah, so basically if you put up a radio tower/beacon in your camp then expect it to get raided at some point. Sanctuary was peaceful and at a constant 80% happy until I added the tower then more settlers showed up and and I had to add more food, power, and fight off some Gunnars, too.

I did get the alien blaster. That was a neat little find. I've yet to use it, though.

If you're looking for suggestions you'll have to state your stats and perks. Also, your character type...rifle? pistol? melee? You are improving your weapons... right? Are you using VATS? It really shouldn't be as tough as you indicate.

Re: Fallout 4

I'm not, I have to stop asking questions cause I'll just keep coming back for more I'll figure it out. I'm not upset with the game either - it will be a challenge to see how I pull it off and I'm already getting ideas.

Re: Fallout 4

I'm still running around in my vault suit. Where can I get some armor? I'm level 7 just reached Diamond City. My build is a stealthy Sniper and I use Vats.

Re: Fallout 4

Fast travel from Diamond City to Sanctuary or somewhere around there. I didn't even start fooling around the Diamond City area until around level 12 or so and still got my ass kicked several times on normal.

I'm at level 9, just a bit past you, and the best armor I've run across so far (aside from the battle suit) is still the one I nicked off an already dead raider right when I crossed the bridge from Sanctuary, just before I ran into Dog Meat. Added a battle-mask/helmet and I haven't found anything better yet, but it's still early.

You get it off the bandits (and others) you find/kill. Use the workbench to scrap/improve (you also need the "Armorer" perk)... nearly essential IMO.

Re: Fallout 4

It's a trip that your character can collect so much junk - it adds up in terms of weight. I've been leveling up carrying capacity and I quickly end up almost maxing it out and just leave some shit behind. Even my companion is maxed out. Gonna have to start storing shit more often. I'm also at a level 30.

Re: Fallout 4

I'm trying to play all sides and not choose a specific faction to follow. So far I've started missions for
Spoiler:
Brotherhood, Minutemen, Railroad and Institute.
. I'm not sure how many other factions there are in the game though.

Re: Fallout 4

With junk I've just started to only pick up stuff that contains less common components. To hell with bottlecaps, Screws would be the real currency in this world...
