Re: Steam Family Sharing
If/when you get an invite to the group, send one my way if invites can only be sent by your friend list.
If anyone else wants to send a friend request - Metrodub on Steam.

I added both of you to my friends list, so i'll invite you to the group whenever you accept. Unless there's a way to just find the group and add yourself...

Nor is he aware of any of the backlash and fallout they're getting from their "investigative journalism". Hell, even someone named SoonerDoc is just as likely to defend OSU from this nonsense

Actually, I've barely followed the story, but got my SI today and immediately thought of you. Sorry if it's a sore subject.
Personally I'm so burned out on college football "scandals" that I'm way beyond caring at this point.

Not a sore subject at all, it's quickly turning into a joke.
I was more scared of it Saturday and Sunday when I knew it was coming. By noon on Monday, I knew it was mostly bullshit. I'm completely over it now

The owner launching any steam title cutting off guest access to all games is pretty much a "deal breaker", for me. It increases the odds of me being thrown off/throwing someone off a "borrowed" game session to such a degree that I don't think it would be worthwhile to set up.

Notice how i put "deal breaker" in quotes.
It just means I have no interest in even setting it up or enabling it as it would likely cause more frustration than enjoyment.
I think it's funny that this announcement his getting such a positive reaction when compared to XB1's proposed system, even though it's more restrictive in many ways if you compare them strictly to each other. Of course that's because Steam is already very restrictive so this is purely an added feature, where as the XB1's proposed system was compared to the 360 and PS 3/4 where it's more of a give and take. Plus MS royally screwed up it's messaging.

That's how it worked for me. Instead of searching on my own, I just opened a message from Music and clicked join and I was in.

If MS did exactly this, and only this, it would still be unprecedented and wonderful. Would you still think it too cumbersome?
Also, bear in mind, that you don't have to share anything under Steam's plan to enjoy a friend's shared library. All you have to do is allow them to authorize your computer to play their games. All the onus is completely on them with the exception of physically typing their credentials into your client. TOO HARD!

Yeah, MS's "proposed" system was muddled through every fault of their own. As such, it was never official, so it's not really something you can compare.

But MS's proposal covered disc based games so I would have to add restrictions Steam already includes like no resale of games and no actual lending of individual titles. If MS did that for disc based games then there would be a huge backlash. I'm not sure how Steam is going to handle the "always online" aspect that also got people upset with MS. I don't think they will add "always online" requirements, but I wouldn't be surprised if they added some mechanism to monitor account usage and manage shared library access.
Also easy of setup isn't really the issue, it's the high likelyhood of access being suddenly cut off. I guess I look at it as more like demo access than true game lending.

Re: Steam Family Sharing
Valve has said in the PR that you won't be "cut off", you'll be given a few minutes to save and exit gracefully.
Further than that, it's foolish to think that whomever you're leeching from won't know you're accessing their library and won't send you a courtesy message along the lines of, "Hey, man, I'm gonna take a piss and grab a beer and I'm going to start something in about 5 minutes."
Either that or you have shitty friends that would trust you with their login credentials. Bizarre logic.

I'm not sure what login credentials has to do with anything. From what I understand sharing will work using a similar mechanism to requesting/adding friends.
