I played this a bit yesterday. It looks absolutely beautiful, but goddamn is it repetitive.

Smoke missiles. Cover. Jump a bit. Recharge smoke. Repeat. |

Made it to He Who Dwells tonight. Didn't have any issues either. Just time consuming. Pretty dumb to introduce platforming 10 hours into a game.

Infamous has already sold a million copies worldwide.

Fuck all of you. I say the mission sucked so there.

Re: inFAMOUS Second Son (3/21/2014)
Thought I'd put my hat in the ring and say that I got through He Who Dwells on my first try without much bother.

Have you tried sucking less? ;)

Re: inFAMOUS Second Son (3/21/2014)
It's a level that can be very frustrating if you're doing it wrong. Trying to hide behind shelter or cling to the side of a pillar = Doing it wrong.
Once I took the advice here of jumping from platform to platform it became much easier. Until then, I got so frustrated that days later my son asked me "Daddy, why do you get so mad?". |

Re: inFAMOUS Second Son (3/21/2014)
Man I have mixed feelings on this game. On one hand, it was fun and looked fantastic. On the other hand, it's nothing but the same from beginning to end. Despite the fact you gain more powers, the missions never change, it remains a very basic beat 'em up through and through and the powers are extremely similar. There is minimal plot and what is there is as cliche as it comes. While I'm one of those people that likes short games, this one just seemed like it was really lacking in content. If you take away the fluff that comes from it being an open world game, you have whats essentially a 5 hour beat 'em up.
Sort of the videogame equivalent of a summer blockbuster: shallow and extremely forgettable but entertaining and extremely nice looking. As silly as the last battle was, all I could think was "This is probably what they wanted to do with Knack", and the frame rate is crazy fast during that sequence. And now I can't wait for next-gen GTA V. |
Re: inFAMOUS Second Son (3/21/2014)
Every time I tried that, I would do okay until he sends this big blast when sent me into the lava. Often as not, I'd die in a barrage of missals before I could safely make it into the updraft again.

The great thing is that Sucker Punch clearly has the tech nailed, so maybe the next sequel will be able to focus more on gameplay. |

I agree. I definitely had a good time and keep coming back to it despite having gotten 100% on the hero side of things, but it feels like they came up with these phenomenal visuals, really clever sets of powers, unbelievably expressive characters, and then ran out of time to take full advantage. Especially playing as one of the good guys, so much of it's zapping armies of basically 2 types of soldiers or drug dealers, over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over.
The great thing is that Naughty Dog clearly has the tech nailed, so maybe the next sequel will be able to focus more on gameplay. But yeah, I don't regret the game because it was a cool experience kind of seeing these visual flourishes here and there building up to incredible visuals with no slow down to speak of (comparing to say Saints Row on the 360 which was nothing but slow framerates) and it is fun but just nothing adds up to much in it. The voice acting and character animations were fantastic, the city looked great - and continually looked better as the game went on (though Space Needle was early and still a highlight). It's one of those "more upset because of what it could have been" situations. |

Re: inFAMOUS Second Son (3/21/2014)
He Who Dwells.
Finished the game on normal and expert and did not die either time. I would find a platform with the neon and absorb it and fire my R1 blasts at him. Then when he fired at me I would literally run around the platform in a circle just ahead of his shots. Rinse and repeat. When platforms started to descend I would jump to the lights that sent you up in the air, occasionally having to neon dash across the lava to a safe platform. When the angels show up, I would blast a couple with R2, run around in a circle and repeat til they were gone, then use R1. If you are doing it any other way you are doing it wrong....:) |
Re: inFAMOUS Second Son (3/21/2014)
OK, I just finished the first 4 parts of Paper Trail.
Ugh, you do most of it on the computer. Short gameplay, grab evidence, go back to browser and figure everything out. Half the time they don't even tell you what the hell you're looking for. I did kind of like that mini game where you have to fix a corrupted hard drive, though it was tricky at times. Still fun though. But jeez, way too much work off of the PS4. |
Re: inFAMOUS Second Son (3/21/2014)
Finished the "Good" side on normal and loved the game. I was a bit surprised on how long the so-called Final kept going. Finished one battle only to be doing another later on. I'm about 25-30% in on Evil but leaving something in each district to play with all the powers.
Overall...a pretty solid game that really shows what the PS4 can do. Sucker Punch nailed the city and the weather, day and night all made it into the most realistic look I've ever seen. They did a great job with all the powers as well. The Neon at night....just awesome. The only question left...what or if they'll do something with the game later on? Why have "Free Roam" , a whole detailed city and four powers to play with right? |
Re: inFAMOUS Second Son (3/21/2014)
Pretty sure there's going to be some DLC missions. Though I doubt they'll be anything major.
|
Re: inFAMOUS Second Son (3/21/2014)
Yeah, definitely seems like there's a lot more they can do with the city and engine.

Re: inFAMOUS Second Son (3/21/2014)
I think this is going to be the generation where I start trading in a lot of my games and picking some of them up again later when they are either super cheap or on PS+.
Infamous SS will probably go to Gamestop this weekend, but it's definitely one I'll rebuy. Really a solid and beautiful game. |
