By the way, could we play two player co-op on this? I think a lot of her time will be spent designing levels though. Would i need to buy extra things online for her in order to build levels? I am still trying to get the gist of what comes with this game. I don't want to get sucked into a massive money grabbing machine. I don't mind paying for the odd new figure or two now and again, but if i have to end up paying for tonnes of stuff online i will be a little pissed off.

Unless you're playing on a Wii. That one is one player only.

Even though everything comes into the game from purchasing figures and discs (thankfully *no* online micro-transactions) it's still a "massive money grabbing machine" as your daughter will now ask for a new figure or mystery disc pack every time you go to the store...

My step daughter is 9 years old. She always asks for toys whenever we go out...so no change there. At least this looks like something where we could play together and have fun. I could use the Marvel characters and she would use the Disney. She loves Minecraft, so i think she would have the patience for the editor. Think i will pre-order the Amazon pack.

Wait, they're making a Wii version? Or do you mean the WiiU? I usually buy these games on the WiiU, so I hope that version isn't gimped more than the other last gen system versions...

There's a Wii version of the first one. There's not one for v2.0 - I'm guessing due to complaints about the v1.0 Wii version sucking. My comment about multi-player is about the first version.

I still don't get the appeal of the Toybox. Do you guys download the popular levels or something? Did I miss out on the online community because I was on the WiiU for the first one (I'm getting it on PS4 for the Marvel one)?

The whole 2.0 moniker confuses me. Is this a totally new sequel, or just the previous game with a few new Marvel levels added in?

The Toybox is just the grab bag level maker that gives the game designer a place to throw any and every figure they think they can sell us that doesn't have an actual level to play. We got over 30 figures for the first game and only 6 playsets that applied to about 60 percent or so of the figures. The rest became toybox fodder. A shame that Wreck-It-Ralph, Jack Skellington, The Frozen ladies and others all became just barely more than collectibles.

Yeah with Marvel being the focus and the fact that all the cool figures don't do shit in the actual game makes it easy to pass on "2.0."

What does that even mean? I heard the marvel characters are significantly better in 2.0 in regards to abilities etc compared to 1.0

What dsa she's said. Over half the figs only work in Toy Box. As for Marvel, I have no interest in them.

Right. I actually bought the game and most of the figures (amazon had some large bundle around Xmas), but figured my kids were too young for the toybox stuff, and that I was missing something important/fun. As is, even the non toybox levels we did play didn't seem all that great as standalone games (although I didn't try Incredibles, which is probably the closest thing to 2.0 in terms of gameplay?). But most here seem to not really play that mode.

Did they announce that at least all the Marvel characters can cross over? Or what the leveling details are? All I really want/need are an X-men Legends style of progressive leveling that can be saved on the toy and moved from playing field to playing field. Otherwise if they just have a few moves attached to buttons, it seems like a step back.

price mistake has been live for well over a week (via CAG)
you don't even need to add a figure for it to show up free in your cart
will certainly be cancelled

Ok. It seems that Disney is trying to appeal to both sets of customers. Ones that want the Marvel levels and figures and ones that are content with just the Toy Box alone to play around with their dump figures. If they honor this then it is a good deal as you will get 2 figures, 2 discs, another portal and another copy of the game for free. If you have GCU then you can get both starter packs for 60 plus tax. That is if they honor the deal.

Yeah, that's why I placed an order as well. Figured it was worth a shot since you are getting a $60 set free when paying for a $75 set (which was actually $60 after GCU). I've never dabbled in Disney Infinity stuff, but figured my 4yr old might enjoy it. Worst case, they cancel the order (and hopefully send a gift card :)) It's dead now, so we'll see.

When I look at this link:

https://infinity.disney.com/pre-order

It seems the "Toy Box" functionality is included in both bundles. It's just a different set of figures in the Marvel version, plus the levels.

Did we ever find out if the marvel characters can cross over between playsets? Can I take Ironman with starlord and do the guardians of the galaxy missions and have Cap and spidey team up on avengers missions?

If you go here and click on a hero, it will tell you which sets they are compatible with. Iron man can be used in all three announced playsets.

Just as I said before, they can essentially make any character they want and just dump them in the Toy Box. The Toy Box is ok in idea but comes up way short in the fun aspect. If I am paying for a game and toys then I want something designed for those toys to play in and not an empty world where I can smash jars and throw building around with little to no purpose. Also, I sure hope the Avengers playset that comes with the games is at least as long as the combined length of the 3 sets of the original. If not, then it will be a huge ripoff.

Re: Disney Infinity - Disney's Infinite Moneymaker

I wonder if, at least for the Marvel characters, they won't do a Skylanders-like game which is more straightforward in design, like a Gauntlet/Marvel Legends game using the characters/toys, in addition to the Infinity line. I like the concept of the Toybox, but someone else has to do the designing because my kids and I aren't investing that kind of time into it.

Best Buy finally fixed the collector's edition listing to allow the free figure/disc, and the Guardians set is still eligible, so cancelled and reordered.
