Favorite video game console of all time?

Re: Favorite video game console of all time?
This would be a hard one. I probably have put in more gaming time on my Xbox 360 over anything else...but that was pretty much Call of Duty and Bomberman: Live. I didn't play a whole lot else on my 360 since I bought it in 2007. I don't know that I would call it my favorite though... even though I love the online gameplay and the controller.
Truly, honestly, I think my Nintendo DS truly surprised me with how much I ended up playing it and how many games I've amassed with it. I really can't get enough of it, and by extension, my 3DS. I'm really all about portable gaming at the end of the day.
Honorable mention would probably go to my NES and SNES, my brothers and I put a lot of time into both of those systems when we were kids.

The NES
When I first started writing this, I put in a tie between the NES and SNES. I love my PS3, but how can it compete against my childhood?
I also loved my Game Boy, and my Atari 2600 was wonderful too. But the NES and SNES were such a major part of growing up for me. I mean I had an NES and SNES before I had cable. Before I had my own VCR. These were my entertainment systems, literally.
So in my head, the two systems kind of blend together, almost like they were the same system. I mean I went from Pitfall Harry to Super Mario Bros. That was a huge leap. But the jump from Super Mario Bros. 3 to Super Mario World was more like a quick little hop.
As I thought about it more, I thought of Zelda, and Metroid, and Mike Tyson's Punch Out!. I realized I never played the SNES versions until I got into emulation. I thought of Tecmo Super Bowl and Bases Loaded. Most of the games I thought about, I played on the NES. I realized my SNES playing tailed off as I got older. I watched more TV, saw more movies, hung out more with friends. It was just a gadget I had among my other gadgets.
The NES was never just a gadget. It could annoying as hell having to blow into those freaking cartridges, but when that thing was working, it was awesome.

After reading TheKing's explanation, I feel like i'm in the same boat with the NES. Zelda, Mario and Mario 3, Punch Out, Tecmo Super Bowl, Baseball Stars... just so many games that felt like they had infinite replayability. Maybe it's just nostalgia.

Xbox 360.
The GameBoy Advance would it for handhelds. DS was ok, but I didn't like using the touchscreen. Stylus or no, I'd rather not be altering my grip.

I'd be hard pressed to pick one favorite. I've played on so many different ones so many hours. It's possible I've spent more time on the Atari Lynx than any other system.

Hard to choose but i would say N64 and PS2, with PS2 probably getting the edge. N64 was the first console that was mine (birthday present) and the first console i paid my own saved money for a game. I remember calling every store in the Charlotte area looking for WCW vs NWO World Tour. Spent countless hours playing those wrestling games, Mario 64, Goldeneye, Waverace, and Zelda.
PS2 was the first console I bought with my own money and the amount of time I invested in it is kinda crazy. Got it when i was a senior in high school so i had all the time in the world to play along with some money most games i wanted. Played it all through college with a little time spent with xbox and gamecube when they came out. The amount of good games on that system is crazy.
With so few exclusives out on any of the newer systems i don't know i could ever choose any of them.

We've had similar polls a few times and SNES always wins (as it should).
I'm not sure how you top:
Super Metroid
Super Mario World
Super Mario All-Stars
Zelda Link to the Past
Yoshi's Island
Chrono Trigger
Mario Kart
Super Mario RPG
Dr. Mario/Tetris
Castlevania 4
Super Star Wars Trilogy
Donkey Kong Country series
Space Megaforce
R-Type III
Madden and NHL
Final Fantasy series
Earthbound
Killer Instinct
Super Punch Out
Illusion of Gaia/Time
Earthworm Jim
Contra 3
F-Zero
Street Fighter/Mortal Kombat
Secret of Mana/Evermore
So many more...

SNES.
Super Mario World, Super Mario Kart, Zelda, F-Zero, Final Fantasy III (technically VI, and cost $80 new at the time!!) and my personal favorites: Super Star Wars/Empire/Jedi
I also specifically remember buying the 4 controller hub and being amazed at playing football or soccer with 4 people at once....its almost hard to imagine the days of just two controller inputs now, haha.

Re: Favorite video game console of all time?
PS3 and then Xbox 360... While I understand the nostalgic attachments to the older consoles, I don't think I can play those old games again (maybe remastered versions). I can't go back to the blocky blister inducing controllers either... Sega Genesis controller was a step up, but I can't go back to controllers without L2/R2 (or LT/RT) buttons.
Wii U is cool, but playing games without achievement/trophy is so dull... I used to unlock all Mario coins and such, but the energy for that is gone, there's no "recorded" reward for achieving such feat.
The upcoming console will be PS4, Xbox One will remain to be judged.

The incentive should still be there. You need to collect all of the coins to unlock all of the levels.

Re: Favorite video game console of all time?
In terms of pure gameplay, the SNES. The first Playstation had too many unrefined games because developers did not understand gamplay mechanics in 3-D space at the time.

how is that possible?
