Re: Prey (2017)
So I just figured out the recycling and fabricating, like Quest said, yes, I'm a moron and yes I didn't quite pay attention to all the emails and stuff, but I went back and learned it on my own and it was so damn fun. Taking all that frayed wire or copper whatever and spare parts and recycling them. Then, making them into GLOO canisters and medkits was a blast and is so useful.
I understand and it's great and semi-unique. Can't wait to see what else I can make. It all came together when struggling with fabricator and looking at the symbols and trying to understand and then going to recycler, where all I thought I was doing was storing to make room, and recycling them and have them come out like a gumball machine, picking them up and making such needed items was refreshing and pure fun. Of course it has some comparison to BioShock, I mean Psi Hypos and neuromods couldn't have been ripped off more. But, this is so much different and certainly the enemies are different. I think this one is very unique and getting great... |
Re: Prey (2017)
is no one else playing this, but the 3 of us?
i really like it and it gave me the "urge" to play again. that itch that i have been lacking. i mean i did have it with RE7 to some degree, but after doing what i did last night, i can't wait to get to more and to think i'm barely passed demo mark. this could take me the rest of the year. hope not though... |
Re: Prey (2017)
I've been playing through this and was enjoying it a lot, but I hit a massive difficulty spike last night. I'd been getting through everything pretty easily until the start of the 'Detour' mission and the immediate lead up to it. I probably died 20+ times getting from my office to the Psychotronics area. With the load times being so ridiculous, it's about enough to make me give up on the game. I'll probably push through another night or two and see if I find an item or skill that levels it back out a bit, but it's kind of ridiculous.
|
Re: Prey (2017)
I am playing it and on easy but ran into these fire phantoms in the first hour or so that have me trapped in an office. There are two of them and they are a real pain.

Re: Prey (2017)
So according to save game time I have played 12 hours, yet still early on, learning, fabricating (still have to find shot gun ammo plans. I know in Talos 1 lobby), searching, etc. I don't know where exactly I am in game. Just got the suit propulsion upgrade in Hardware Labs. But I've been taking my time and enjoying playing when I can a couple hours at a time. Those mimics really keep you on toes and I actually proceed with caution. This isn't run and gun. Love a good searching, exploring, but killing shit, mostly linear types of games. This fits the bill. Has some of the RPG elements. Not a ton, but at least I sorta understand what to do and how to do it, with the few questions, here and there, that I ask ;). But really enjoying. Although, all I've been playing and I don't quite understand the similarities to BioShock. It looks a lot different. Plays somewhat differently. I mean other games do the quest, follow a path to the overall conclusion. This has recycling and fabricating. Really different mechanics too imo. I mean find a key card, exploring dead bodies is similar but what else? I don't quite see it...

Re: Prey (2017)
i just love playing this game and crafting and fabricating and stuff. still very early on. just about to take first space walk i believe with propulsion add-on. just love everything about it. i actually jumped when a mimic jumped out of nowhere. true story...

Anyone finish this yet?

Re: Prey (2017)
This is on sale through today at Target for 39.99
|
Re: Prey (2017)
It will be $20 soon enough, probably before the end of Summer. Sales numbers, secretive though they are, seem to be terrible for this game. I wonder if the lack of review copies hurt sales and general enthusiasm.

Re: Prey (2017)
Really addicting this game is. I love the leveling up system. You have to be careful how you go about it in the early goings. And those recycler charges are great. But I think it takes a bit to get the fabrication plans...
|
Re: Prey (2017)
Any more thoughts with anyone? I been loving it and would like to discuss non-spoiler stuff...
|
Re: Prey (2017)
For those playing: do the optional missions affect the overall main story in terms of challenge (I know it will open more of the actual story and plot details)?
Like do I have to complete more of main story to be able to actually do them? I dont need more power and won't face harder enemies will I? Just mostly bactracking and going to areas that were once inaccessible bc you had to get stuff during the main story to get optional stuff. Does that make sense at all? |

Edit: and next week at Best Buy too. Might be time to pick up w/ GCU + steelbook. |
Re: Prey (2017)
I've still been working my way through this. Finding the shotgun shell schematic brought the difficulty back down to passable. Still, I've lost a lot of enthusiasm for the game. It wants you to traverse the station quite a bit, going back to previously visited areas to work on side quests or access things made available through upgraded powers. Unfortunately, the load times are the worst I've encountered in quite a while, maybe even the worst I've seen this generation. On top of that, there's the fact that all enemies respawn every time you leave an area. It's highly annoying to completely clear an area, realize you have to pop in and out of the station to do something and in the 5 minutes (3 load time, 2 doing something) you're gone, every damn alien is replaced. At this point, I'm just kind of bored with it and only playing to see the narrative wrap up. I even tried to take the escape pod, just to see if that was an actual ending to the game, but was treated to the equivalent of a 'you lose' screen.

Re: Prey (2017)
The load times suck loads. I haven't played this game in awhile and I would say that this is the main reason why.
|
Re: Prey (2017)
Lots of backtracking, huh? I guess I'll have to skip this. Can't stand that shit. Why does every game have to be and "open world" these days?
I actually really like the last Prey game, too bad this has absolutely NOTHING to do with it. |
Re: Prey (2017)
Red box is carrying this . Might just rent it for the weekend and binge play it. :)
|
Re: Prey (2017)
The load times are bad, but I think the bactracking is fine and fun. You have new abilities when you go back and can open up more stuff. It's kinda neat to go to an area that was inaccessible, but with a new skill like leverage 3 you can move a big crate that was blocking an entrance to room full of goodies...
|
Re: Prey (2017)
It's the precision planting of crates to prolong a game that is a bit irritating. If there were a fast travel like system in Bioshock then it wouldn't be too bad. However, when you have to go from place to place just to get to said room of "goodies" , it can be a bit too much.
|
Re: Prey (2017)
Eh, I really like everything about the game. There is a lack of variety in monsters thus far, hopefully that changes, but I love the exploring and finding and making stuff. Killing the baddies is like secondary in this game. It's more about the story and piecing the puzzles of info together. Don't mind the backtracking for reasons already mentioned. I really look forward to playing it...
|
Re: Prey (2017)
Just came across new baddies on way to Arboretum. Flying guys and ones that just blow up with GLOO. Went to the arboretum. This place definitely reminds me of BioShock. But, really nothing else...

Re: Prey (2017)
I was waiting on a BB sale, so I'm glad to see they are finally matching Target's $39.99 price. I will definitely pick this up next week for $31.99, as I enjoyed the first Prey.

Like Decker said it was with the BB Gamers Club discount (20% off new games) plus I got the double sided steelbook exclusive BB case. |
Re: Prey (2017)
I was thinking about picking this up, so I decided to play through the demo first. I'm glad I did. Just wasn't hooking me and left me thinking about Dishonored 2, which I never picked up. So I think the plan is to pick up Dishonored 2 eventually and forget about Prey for now.
|
Re: Prey (2017)
matty...the demo didn't hook me 100% either, but Im glad I got it and at good price. It is real fun and addicting. $32 will be worth it...
Anyone finish? |

It is actually an interesting way to get some of the achievements like killing no humans and using no upgrades without having to grind through the entire game a second time.

Re: Prey (2017)
I'll tell you, as much as I like this game a lot I do admit to needing some help using guides online. Some stuff is not just cut and dry. And though I feel like I'm progressing in story and play I feel like I'm not accomplishing much. I keep opening new stuff after I finish one objective and then other objectives pop up but I don't know how far exactly I'm in in the game. I'm in the Arboretum about to go to Deep Storage.
What % have I played? I'm taking my time however and I like to explore and do all the stuff. And holy fuck when The Nightmare comes after you and there is the countdown clock that seems so long. I thought that was a one time thing. I've killed him a couple of times using recycler rechargers and shotgun. But, trying to scan him and dodge and fight is tough. He is a scary mofo. Still, having a lot of fun and clocked according to save game time more than 25 hours. I know, seems pretty slow, it that's just how I do. |
