Re: Prey (2017)

I played a few minutes of demo. It wasn't revelatory or anything. Mix of previously released games, I'll give it some more, but nothing that was grabbing me...

Re: Prey (2017)

Since I picked it up yesterday I've already put 10 hours into it.

and it's great?

when does it get BioShock-ish? with the neuromods?

im just using that foam gun to try and stop and kill those mimics. they are fast and no real pattern. i guess foam just slows them down and then i wrench them to death. and pressing Y to open the weapon wheel is cumbersome. i think there is a way to map them to the D-pad, but i am not figuring that part out. i still have to use Y and then scroll to wrench or shotgun or foam gun during heat of battle.

but, none of this seems like BioShock...

Re: Prey (2017)

Seriously. Every aspect of the game is Bioshock-ish (from the wrench and powers, the fonts and level design, the quests, etc).

You've only played like the first two hours of the first Bioshock and then posted about those two hours like 50 times. I don't think you have a clue what Bioshock is like.

yeah, i'm about 3/4 through the game, but thanks for the insightful dialogue...

So if you finish the demo, is that where you start if buy full game?

OldBoy 05-10-17 08:25 PM

Re: Prey (2017)

Anyone else playing this and can share comments?

I have some Amazon credits and may get it digitally, because it did give me an itch, a little one, but one nonetheless...

OldBoy 05-11-17 10:34 PM

Re: Prey (2017)

Anyone at all? Can get digital for under $40 and wonder if worth it...

Re: Prey (2017)

It's worth it. I like it a lot. Definitely reminds me of Bioshock but also of Dead Space and Alien Isolation.

Re: Prey (2017)

did you finish? was it great? a kind of game you want to keep coming back to to play and see how it progresses? how many gameplay hours did it take you? lots of exploration?

Dude, there's just not enough of us around here in this forum to answer all your questions.
For more highly in-depth videogame discussions than we could ever have here, I'd recommend neogaf.

Here's their official Prey thread, with more info than you'll know what to do with.

And it looks like the "how long to beat" aggregate puts the length at around 12 to 22 hours, depending on your play style.

I was kinda hoping to see how long he was going to beg for answers in this thread when he could easily in 5 seconds on google answer all his own questions.

OldBoy 05-12-17 08:19 PM

Re: Prey (2017)

i asked a specific person (who's playing/played this game) on this forum, how "his" experience was. so what?

Same. Been checking back in on this every so often to see who bit first.

Game's good. According to Steam, I'm 23 hours in, and I honestly have no idea how close to being finished I am. I'm basically just exploring the station at this point, completing quests as they come in. However, the combat is only so-so, and I think the Gloo Cannon, as cool as it is, is kind of overrated and not super useful the more powers you unlock.

The Questyen 05-13-17 01:46 PM

Re: Prey (2017)

I'm in the 20-25 hour range also and my big gripe about the game so far is the loading. I would guess no joke an hour or two of my playtime is loading screens. Everytime you go from one area to another there is a 1-2 minute loading screen. The game has no fast travel so sometimes you have to go through multiple areas to get to the area you want to get to and it gets unbearable. It takes me less time to move through the levels then the length of the loading screen.

OldBoy 05-13-17 04:18 PM

Re: Prey (2017)

they can fix that with an update eventually, can't they?

lopper 05-13-17 04:22 PM

Re: Prey (2017)

On PC, load times for me between areas has been around 20 sec or so. Longer than I'd like, but not unbearable by any stretch.

I'm on ps4. This morning I got up took a piss and came back and it was still loading. It's usually like a minute on the screen with the loading bar and then another 20 seconds on the next screen before you can press x.

lopper 05-13-17 04:43 PM

Re: Prey (2017)

Ouch. I've got 42 seconds. Just timed it.

So, does the full game leave you where you left off from demo?

Not done yet. It's fun though. There's a ton of exploration. The place is huge.

What would you rate it as of now? Hoping to start again tomorrow...

OldBoy 05-16-17 08:26 PM

Re: Prey (2017)

So, I got the full game, discounted through Amazon credits and such.

Only played a bit today. I think I'm liking it. Haven't got past the demo portion yet, but it really creates a sense of dread in the beginning and those mimics are with no patterns. They just attack at will and I have no idea where they are coming from or how I get hit, kinda dislike that a little, but still fast and heart pounding. And there copying inanimate objects technique is so unique.

Love exploring.

Can't imagine what's in store and what crazy enemies lie ahead, but think it will be cool...

They is.

I've played roughly 29 hours of this and it's run like a dream until today. Over the last two hours, it's crashed three times. I'm on the final mission and I just want to be done already.

You know, it's posts like this that make me say "hmm, odd... let me see what other tid-bits of knowledge this member has dropped". All crap. Thank you very little --- just post your gd spam and move along.

OldBoy 05-21-17 08:10 PM

Re: Prey (2017)

Ok, so need a little stupid help. I know you can get it very early (found in demo), but where the hell is the shotgun? I want to GLOO then blast those walking beasties. Also, how do you get more GLOO? Nothing seems to drop it or other corpses have it? Do you have to make it and can you do that early on? Thanks.

OldBoy 05-22-17 09:43 PM

Re: Prey (2017)

got the shotgun, but no way in hell i got it like that in demo. this i never would have figured out if i didn't cheat a little.

but, how do i get more GLOO? i am just about out. i think i have the fabrication plans for it. do i make it with spare parts and stuff?

nickdawgy 05-23-17 04:38 AM

Re: Prey (2017)

You recycle stuff then fabricate it. Its also hidden away sometimes.

OldBoy 05-23-17 08:41 AM

Re: Prey (2017)

Thanks nick.

The Questyen 05-23-17 09:36 AM

Re: Prey (2017)

One of the main things you do in the game is recycle items and fabricate items. It's explained to you early and in great detail. You find the machines all over and the items all over. It's used in major plot points throughout the story.

I honestly have no clue how you managed to turn your console on to play games in the first place without posting here and asking us for directions.

OldBoy 05-23-17 08:52 PM

Re: Prey (2017)

I don't know why you have to be so condescending. I know I ask a lot of questions and yes, maybe sometimes inane, but I always have the best intentions and don't mean to rub anyone the wrong way. I'm just trying to get the most enjoyment out of a game i particularly like and yes, I even searched for how do you get more GLOO in Prey and didn't come up with much. The wiki is still under construction and doesn't have too much info. So, i come here where I feel comfortable and despite some harrassment, get good info by members here who don't mind giving some help to a virtual internet stranger.

The Questyen 05-23-17 09:29 PM

I'm Not sure why you're giving him shit either. It's like the people that won't answer someone's question because they "don't have time" yet they go and complain about them or post a let me google that for you link.

Yep it's exactly like that.
