Re: Next Gen: Are you in or out?
I also think the "Remote Play" between PS4 and Vita is pretty badass...where the PS4 becomes a game server. I don't think it's something I will use myself, but it would be great for keeping my kid in the living room with other live human beings while he plays and would also mean that I could buy him a Vita instead of a second PS4 for his room.

Re: Next Gen: Are you in or out?
I'm waiting for now. My friends want me to break down and become a PC gamer. At this point, I'm considering it.

Re: Next Gen: Are you in or out?
Seems like with each new generation, I wait longer to adopt. And with these newer consoles, I think I'll be waiting a long time - at least for the 2nd price drop, if not longer. Not due to budgetary reasons, but for software development to catch up, and by then, it'll be easier to notice which one to buy and which one to skip.

Re: Next Gen: Are you in or out?
I don't think there should be as steep a development curve this time since they are switching to normal PC x86 architecture. Developers that know how to make PC games should be able to easily develop for either the XB1 or PS4.

I have been an exclusive console gamer since the atari 2600. however last year when Diablo 3 came out, I became a PC gamer. I don't have a beastly laptop but I can play everything out now at medium settings at least. You can get sooooo many good deals on PC games. it is mind boggling at the prices you get sometimes. Steam regularly has games 75% off or more. The same with Amazon. I haven't played a 360 game since last summer. |

Sony will also presumbably continue to offer "dual" versions of games for both the PS4 and Vita with a single purchase. |
Re: Next Gen: Are you in or out?
PS3 does pretty much everything I want with Blu-ray, all the HD streaming services, great games, etc. Not interested in the Xbox One. I may eventually get a PS4, but I've got a huge backlog as is, so it'll be awhile. Doesn't seem like it's really offering anything substantial except prettier graphics. Nothing wrong with that, but PS3 still looks phenomenal to me.

Re: Next Gen: Are you in or out?
Yep, which I did think of, but the implementation was poor and you could only either use the PSP as a controller for specific titles, like Lair, or play things like PS1 games on it.

I chose waiting it out, but may cave and end up getting a PS4 sooner than later.
I have less than zero interest in a Wii U. Don't know if I'd buy one for $100 today, but I doubt I would. Haven't played the Wii in years and couldn't stand the controls on it. |
Re: Next Gen: Are you in or out?
Waiting it out. My 360 backlog is huge and not impressed with either system yet.

Re: Next Gen: Are you in or out?
Waiting it out.
But when I do bite it will be the XBOX system. I now, more than before, can appreciate the "all in 1" entertainment value of the new XBOX. I'm watching more movies/TV shows on LIVE now than before. Mind you, I used to be a person who though doing that was silly. But to be honest, it's cheaper to watch movies on the XBOX than gaming. Especially when games are $60 a pop. That said, pricing and other priorities has me thinking I'll need to wait. Plus, sorry MS.... but I went through 3 XBOX units before I got a system that didn't die on me. So I think I'll wait to see if your Tech is sound after a year or two. |

I don't think they have lost sight of anything; just because additional non-gaming related features have been added to consoles, doesn't mean that the gaming experience isn't there or has been diminished, nor does it mean that anyone has to use or worry about all the media features.
At the end of the day, unless you're hoping for a completely new way to play games like the original Wii, the basic technological hardware improvements are still there for developers to take advantage of and improve your gaming experience. While Microsoft is muddling things with internet connectivity or whatever, the basics of playing a new game with better graphics haven't changed on any of the consoles. The 360/PS3 aren't any worse off at gaming for adding apps, streaming media, playing movies, etc. I don't see how the Xbox One or PS4 would be either. |

Exactly. Does your gaming PC stink because you can run AutoCad on it as well?

It wouldn't "bog" necessarily since that RAM would be dedicated to that capability, but there would have to be some opportunity cost. |
Re: Next Gen: Are you in or out?
More shit more bog - just look at everything around you that do multiple things. The more things something does, the less effective each of those things are.

Re: Next Gen: Are you in or out?
Pretty light gamer and have backlogs on both XB and PS3, though I play more on the former. I expect I'll wait a while, but will likely get both nextgens, unless, say, they don't do a new Uncharted. :)

Re: Next Gen: Are you in or out?
I was more referencing AutoCAD, having software installed generally doesn't bog down a system unless it's actively running.
As for Microsoft, they have components dedicated to the OS and frankly a good front experience is critical. I don't see it bogging down game performance in the least. |
Re: Next Gen: Are you in or out?
"Are you in or out." No, no. I'm not playing this game with you again, mhg83.

Re: Next Gen: Are you in or out?
I waited nearly 9 months before getting the 360 but it was a combination of more friends going that way and a certain game at the time that captivated the gaming industry...Gears of War.
It'll probably be that way again...wait till some kinks get ironed out, see if any issues start to pop up, hear from friends and most of all see what games are coming to the new system. A year from now I'll probably still be on the 360. |
