Sonic signs with Nintendo
NINTENDO ACQUIRES CHARACTER DEAR TO GAMERS WHOSE PARENTS WENT WITH GENESIS OVER SNES
In a story fraught with great emotional significance to video gamers whose parents bought them a Sega Genesis instead of the Super Nintendo Entertainment System 20 years ago, Nintendo announced Friday that it has obtained the exclusive rights to Sega's flagship star, Sonic the Hedgehog.
The two companies were the superpowers of the console wars in the early-to-mid 1990s, and the tension between fans of Sonic and those of Nintendo's Mario was acutely felt by all but the snotty rich kids who had both systems.

Ugh, just when Sonic games were getting good again, they get him off MS and Sony's systems.
I really hope they still allow PC games, but I doubt it. BTW, I wonder if this means anything for games currently available via digital distribution services.

So only exclusive for 3 titles, two of them already named, and one of them bound to have been an exclusive anyway considering it also features Mario.
“Sonic Lost World,” the latest adventure to feature Sonic the Hedgehog, will be released exclusively to the Wii U and hand-held 3DS consoles... Sonic will also topline another new title announced Friday, “Mario & Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games,” coming soon to the Wii U...
The exclusive relationship between Sega and Nintendo regarding Sonic will extend for two years and three forthcoming titles, a Sega spokesman confirmed. The third and final title of that agreement has not yet been detailed.

Sega must be seeing something in the various sales figures that make this worthwhile. Kudos to Nintendo for finally stepping up on something to bolster their system. Not sure if Sonic can sway some console sales their way, but worth a shot. They should have ponied up for Rayman.
It'd be interesting to see if Sonic pops up in some of the Mario titles (Party, Kart, etc.) before the deal is up. Would add something of a fresh spin on otherwise stale franchises.

I know the Sonic and Mario games sold really well, but i'm curious how the other standalone or XBLA/PSN Sonic games sold.
Seems like a weird partnership to make given everyone else is avoiding the Wii U.

I really want a time machine right now so I can go back to elementary school and laugh in the face of all those Genesis fanboys I used to argue with... and tell myself to invest in Facebook and Google when they come out...

It's weird to say this, but Sonic is the only game that makes me regret selling my Wii U.

Someone over on CAG played it at TGS. It was not a favorable review. As usual, it sounds like it's best to take a "wait and see" approach for Sonic.
Then again, its one guy that played one level.

Another Nintendo exclusive. That's what they need. The new Sonic game looks fun. New Mario looks fun. Makes me glad I have my Wii U. Will compliment my Xbox One well when I want to play certain exclusives.

Wow, what was once a cheat code now has a monetary value. How fucking lame.

Re: Watch Dogs
That article doesn't make sense to me; they say Sonic is 720P and then upscaled to 1080P, which is what the games have been doing on the 360 and PS3 already, and they would be upscaled on the One and PS4 too. Not to mention the obvious factor that any game can run at 1080P and 60 FPS with low resolution textures and weaker graphics and effects. Unless the game is cross platform between the Wii U, One, and PS4, it's meaningless. And even then there's no question the Wii U isn't close to comparable in power.
What a completely stupid article. Probably the dumbest conclusions i've read in this entire console generation, and that's saying something.

Actually, I think the reviews matter quite a bit
Edge (4/10)
Eurogamer (4/10)
Joystiq (5/10)
Game Informer (5/10)
Gamespot (5/10)
IGN (5.8/10)
Polygon (6/10)
Nintendo Life (7/10)
Sorry, now back to some Watch Dog delayed talk. I, for one, am extremely disappointed since I was going to pick this up and skip AC4. But if they need some time, it's probably for the better. GTA5 got delayed, and that game turned out to be great (or so I've heard).
