Re: Electronic Arts acquires the Star Wars license

A lot of the stories have posted corrections/retractions/"updates." Disney/Lucasfilm have stated they've called their game licensing division "Lucasfilm Games" for a while now.

Since at least mid 2018, they've had this on their site:
https://web.archive.org/web/20180724...t-we-do/games/

Working hand-in-hand with world-class partners, Lucasfilm Games creates interactive and immersive experiences that help extend the narrative of our worlds and allow fans to make franchises like Star Wars their own.
It would explain why all the job listings were for management and not any actual programmers, designers, artists, etc.

While the name "Lucasfilm Games" doesn't come up in this interview, a Lucasfilm rep talks about how their games division works in this 2017 interview:
https://venturebeat.com/2017/11/26/l...ekly-meetings/

“We have a games team here that I run, that meets with all of our partners, and particularly we spend a lot of time with EA, both on the marketing side and the production teams. We bring in Lucasfilm’s story team to help us shape and build the stories we’re telling...."
Edit: I also checked, and all the old LucasArts games being sold on GOG say they were developed/published by "Lucasfilm"

I'm not too big on SW, but will check out anything from Respawn.

Meh. EA will find a way to fuck it up.

I'll never get excited for an EA game again before release. Battlefront 2 and Anthem were the final breaking points for me. I'll check this out, pending reviews and price drops.

Two of the most powerhouse companies in the world have managed to take this limitless franchise and turn it into a bed shit.

Yeah, EA has dropped the ball big time when it comes to Star Wars. Then again it's EA so it shouldn't be a huge surprise.

Re: Electronic Arts acquires the Star Wars license

EA's ball dropping goes far and beyond the SW license. Everything they've been doing lately is hot garbage.

Looks like 11/15 release date for it.

$10 in rewards for Best Buy preorders. Extra-nice if you still have Gamers Club Unlocked going.

I think the story for this seems interesting, but honestly the trailer feels a bit underwhelming to me. It doesn’t really look all that impressive from a graphics standpoint to me either. Hopefully it’s good though as there hasn’t been a really good Star Wars game for a while.

Looks pretty good to me.

What was the last really good single player SW game though? Force Unleashed?

Star Wars - Jedi Outcast II on PC......honestly this looks....and can be a sort of return to the roots of that with story driven and campaign the main focus. They've dropped it with the last two Battlefronts with their main focus in PvP. Star Wars no matter how you slice it, dice it, twist it has always been story driven. If they can make this like Outcast and even Force Unleashed...the better....and the trailer looked pretty good. Wonder what engine they'll be using though. Frostbite gave the Devs on Anthem fits.....according to several....a lot was left on the cutting floor.

UPDATE.....I did some looking to see since Respawn used Valve's Source for Titanfall and Apex but EA uses Frostbite. When the game was announce some PC folks made it their first priority to find out what Engine this will use.....according to those over at Overclock3D.... https://www.overclock3d.net/news/sof...ot_frostbite/1

Jedi: Fallen Order was build using Unreal Engine 4, not Frostbite
Respawn is finally moving away from Valve's Source engine

I enjoyed the trailer, but you know EA will somehow screw this up. I will wait until the reviews are in before I even think about buying it.

I really liked both of The Force Unleashed games. The first one is better but I didn’t mind the second one. I don’t play PC games so not sure what’s been released for that.

EA just announced mass layoffs and have cancelled an upcoming Star Wars FPS game

Adam Tyner 02-28-24 06:41 PM

Re: Electronic Arts acquires the Star Wars license

Supposedly the cancelled game was a Mandalorian-centric FPS from Respawn. (Like, a Mandalorian, not The Mandalorian.)

Maybe if Mr. 20 million plus a year man, Andrew Wilson, would take a pay cut, the people who actually work could keep their jobs.

I didn’t know where to put this, but did anyone get the Star Wars: Dark Forces Remaster? Worth $30? How long is the game?
