Re: Dying Indie Developer seeks crowd funding
Wait, what? Indiegogo immediately deposits your donation into their PayPal account? Then what the hell does Indiegogo do in the first place?

IndieGogo has two funding models. Fixed Funding is similar to Kickstarter: the project creator only gets the funds if the project reaches its goal. Flexible Funding, however, gives the creator funds whether or not they reach their goal. http://www.indiegogo.com/how-pricing-works-on-indiegogo Chloe's project was Flexible Funding, so she was getting the money as it came in, minus IndieGogo's cut. Presumably she must've taken some money out of the Paypal account as it was going on in order to not have enough in the account to refund everyone (assuming both Paypal's and IndieGogo's fees were refunded as well). IndieGogo is just a platform for raising awareness of the fundraising. It's similar to Kickstarter in that sense, since Kickstarter does very little itself aside from hosting the project page. It's a little more problematic though in that they use Paypal, which pays instantly, instead of Amazon Payments, which allows for the delayed payment at the end of the Kickstarter. |

No, this isn't fraud by any means. Not at all.

Re: Dying Indie Developer seeks crowd funding
Well, going forward I won't contribute to any Indiegogo campaigns, that's for sure.

Re: Dying Indie Developer seeks crowd funding
Addendum to my previous post, I just found this about funding on IndieGogo:
http://support.indiegogo.com/entries...o-expect-funds For Flexible Funding campaigns, contributions made through PayPal are sent to your PayPal account instantly.... For Fixed Funding campaigns, contributions via PayPal are disbursed to your PayPal account as a lump sum after your campaign meets your funding goal... Contributions made by credit card are held until your campaign's deadline and then sent as a lump sum (minus fees) to your bank account... *Note that this only makes the campaigns as safe as Kickstarter, in that the project creators don't get your money until the campaign ends, meaning there's time for people to sniff out potential problems and/or fraud. With both IndieGogo and Kickstarter, once the campaign has ended successfully, you're pretty much on your own. |

So living as a guy in real life, but with a female online persona. Lies about a bizarre life-threatening illness to raise money to have penis inverted. Gets shut down on that front, but not before running with some of the money. Threatens suicide to keep double life a secret. Either attempts suicide anyway, or pretends to attempt suicide for attention, resulting in double life becoming public. Maybe Lindsey Lohan can play him/her in the Lifetime movie.

Oh so it is ok to scam people because I have mental health issues. Good to know.

Considering everything else has been a lie, why should we believe the latest version?

Holy shitballs - if your explanation of anything takes that long, you are a crazy person.

Did not read, he/she will clearly do anything to get attention and I'm not going to feed that desire.

I talked to Chris from The Indiestone, and confided in him. I figured since he said something along the lines of "Who cares if she's scamming or not, she's still provided us with a fun game for free, that justifies everything", that he would be understanding, since I wasn't actually scamming anyone. He wasn't as understanding as I had hoped, and he let me know how betrayed he felt. He said he understood, but I really don't think he did. I have apologized. I’ve been apologizing since before the campaign even ended, I just keep getting drowned out by the people who seem to be speaking for me (like Allistair). But of course, if you do take into account the surgery being life saving (which I am inclined to say my personal health situation being irrelevant), then there were no false pretenses. People donated money to A) save someone’s life, which they were, and B) because they enjoyed a free game that they liked, which they did, should the rest of the story really matter? And I didn’t scam anyone, I didn’t make any money off of this, in fact, I’ve lost money because of it. You could go so far as saying I attempted to scam people, that’s your personal call, it’s all in what you consider to be a scam. |

Update : dead
https://articles.oregonlive.com/port...on_fire_in.amp The 31-year-old woman walked on crutches into a downtown Portland park. Minutes later, she set herself on fire. Bystanders put out the fire that consumed Chloe Sagal, but she died from her injuries. Sagal was a game developer and artist who struggled with mental illness for many years. Her friends say she loved dogs, forged authentic weapons and made haunting music when she was able to. They say she was proud of her Romani heritage and an active socialist. They also say she was the target of an online bullying campaign that derailed her. She was an indie game developer know for creating the game Homesick. And in 2013, Sagal, a transgender woman, became the target of hate mob K_ F_, an online group New Yorker magazine described as "the web's biggest community of stalkers" that "specializes in harassing people they perceive as being mentally ill or sexually deviant in some way." The harassment began after it was revealed a crowdfunding campaign to raise money for Sagal to deal with metal poisoning was actually raising money for her gender surgery . |
Re: Dying Indie Developer seeks crowd funding
Damn, such a tragic ending for someone with so many issues. It's too bad she couldn't get the help she needed.
