With as fast as Dead Space 3 dropped to $40, they should have just done that from the get go. Then market it as "We gave you the full game for $40 that you can enjoy as it is, but you can also spend some money on micro transactions to unlock the extra stuff if you would like." I'm really not down with micro transactions as it is, but this way it gives people who buy games at launch more incentive to spend a little more on micro transactions since they got the full game at a lower price.

Gotta agree. I LOVE the Dead Space franchise, but the stuff they want you to pay extra for, after the $60 price tag, is a complete joke. Want your little scavenger robot to pick up more loot? That's extra money. Want a cool gun? That's extra money. It's ridiculous. On principle alone I will never, ever buy any of this stuff. It's one thing to charge for some big expansion DLC, but nickel and diming gamers to death for every gun and suit disgusts me.
The day these things become available only by paying extra money, I'll be protesting as loud as anyone else. I'm more put off by DLC practices in general than these optional microtransactions. |
Re: Electronic Arts is worse than Satan.
I recently got The Saboteur. The game was supposed to have a free DLC that was only available from EA. EA shut down access to the DLC.
I also get tired of EA games that require me to cancel out of logging into their online service every time I play the game. I don't want to socialize my achievements and I don't do multi-player. I don't believe that EA is worse than Satan. Run by Satan? Certainly. Worse than? No. |

Re: Electronic Arts is worse than Satan.
Mr. Bleszinski mentions "Your average guy that buys just Madden and GTA every year doesn’t know, nor does he care. He has no problem throwing a few bucks more at a game because, hey, why not?"
One might wonder how this average dude is going to sustain an industry. Kinda sucks if your not Madden or GTA. I will not throw those extra bucks at games. If they push it too hard, I'm willing to cease giving any money to them. As much as I like games, I'm willing to walk away completely. He claims that the gaming industry is an industry and that people shouldn't be outraged that they need to make money. This is a hollow argument. I'm not a communist. I'm not someone screaming, "It's data. It's all data. And data must be free!" I'm not asking for free games. I'm saying quit trying to jerk me around. |
Re: Electronic Arts is worse than Satan.
GTA comes out every year? maybe he meant COD

Not to defend this practice, but to be fair, the scavenger robots picking up extra loot can also be done with ration seals that are earned in-game. If there are people who actually chose to pay instead of, or in addition to, using those, well..."a fool and his money." The guns are, from my understanding (since I completed the game and never paid for any of that crap), purely cosmetic, because you can build any uber-weapon you want in-game as well.

The first week's games were free, after that you would have to buy with $$ OR with in-game Madden-Points, or whatever they hell they were called. The only way to get madden points in-game was to play that weird game mode with using random playing cards to generate a team, and then play games with that team. You start with such a crappy team from the random cards, I got 1 point the first time I played a game (which take about an hour to play). Each week's scenarios cost like 200 points. |
Re: Electronic Arts is worse than Satan.
Blezsinski is a huge douche. He also looks like a douche and has a douchey nickname.

Re: Electronic Arts is worse than Satan.
And, I hear, he douches.

It actually still unlocked some time after it was supposed to end. |

Cliffy B's ultimate conclusion is "If you don't like it, don't buy it". He's right. End of story.

It's just one if those things you have to accept. More and more firms are going to move to models like That. It's part of a changing landscape in the industry and isn't going away anytime soon. But yeah, if you don't wanna support it then don't. It's your money and the decision really is that simple.
Orrrrr..... You can always just be a year behind the curve and get the eventual GOTY editions of everything. |

Re: Electronic Arts is worse than Satan.
I guess why I really don't like it is because: "Here's a good game for $60. If you want to add a really cool feature it'll be another $5. If you want a super duper cool feature, well now we're at $70..." And on it goes. Why put out your best game if you can put out a good game and have people pay even more to make it really good?
P.S. And I don't believe the bot features in DS3 can, in fact, be bought with rations seals. Tried it yesterday and you have to pay 400 points to double the size or the speed of your bot. Also they removed the 30-pack purchase for the other stuff. Why would they do that? |
Re: Electronic Arts is worse than Satan.
I forgot to mention that EA killed Origin Systems. Ultima. Wing Commander. Crusader.
EA only seemed to care about Ultima Online. They wanted their own "Everquest". Ultima Online was the only Origin game that I had zero interest in. Now they've got their own "Steam" and they decided to call it "Origin". Rat bastards. |
Re: Electronic Arts is worse than Satan.
And it's terrrrrrrrrible
|
Re: Electronic Arts is worse than Satan.
here's my experience with Origin. I had to sign up through my ps3 one time to use Fifa or something like that. I was pissed I had to sign up, so I made the password something like: eatshitea, and it linked to my PSN ID. since then I changed email addresses, and now I can't link my new origin account to my PSN ID, because it is still linked to my old email address, which they cant change and I can't remember exactly what profanity I made the passwd. they basically told me there was no way to undo the link to the old account.

Re: Electronic Arts is worse than Satan.
so they basically told you to eat shit
