Re: Bungie - Destiny

Destiny was hands down the most repetitive game I've ever played - just hordes of enemies that you shoot - same setup over and over again.

There is a ton of room for improvement here including possible third person elements.

I guess you never played Pong. I mean that was literally the same thing over and over and over again.

I think with Destiny the issue is not so much that the missions are repetitive (they are), but more to the point that you have to repeat them over and over again. Since June of 2014 (the alpha), I've run Devil's Lair hundreds of times. The same strike over and over. The only time it was really different was when it was the nightfall and had modifiers.

They've started to break away from the same molds in Taken King. The Strikes have more objectives than just killing mobs while the ghost gets something unlocked. Missions have a bit more variety as well. Then there was the introduction of SRL Racing, which was completely different from anything the game had previously offered.

I'm seriously trying to avoid arguments...especially after that last retarded one I got into in the tech talk sub-forum.

You know what I'm saying (no need for the pong comment...but yeah, I'm not a crybaby either so the comment was funny) - the game was torture to get through, at this point I'm not even saying get rid of the constant shooting of mass enemies - at least add something else into the mix - I guess I would say check out fallout 4 for ideas, yes....there was a ton of constant boring enemy battles that were the same throughout but it was a hell of a lot more bearable due to all the other elements of game-play involved.

If all games were this damn boring I would never play any - one of the biggest gripes about Destiny was the repetitiveness so it's absolutely worth talking about.

That's the thing, repetitive doesn't always equal boring. The pong thing was a bit of a gag, but it does help to express a point. Early video games were repetitive as hell. Pretty much all of them in fact. And having grown up on a 2600, playing the same games over and over and over again, it's just part of my video game psyche.

Those of us who play this game way too much (i.e. the Daggers), we know the flaws. Repetitive missions that you replay way too often for rewards that are usually not worth the effort taken to acquire them. Or having to battle the toughest enemy in the entire game: lag.

I don't think any of us have rose colored glasses when it comes to this game. But we keep playing because of the stuff they got right. Above all else, Destiny is a shooter, and they got that part down pat (well...other than the endless tuning of PVP that does more harm than good).

And of course, Destiny would probably be gathering dust (or digital dust in my case) if it weren't for having a solid group to play it with. For better or worse, Destiny is a social game, and having people to play with makes that repetition much easier to take.

Re: Bungie - Destiny

Yeah without question they did get a lot right - people complain about the social aspect but I think it's one of the best for social interaction, top it off with the fact that it just runs so damn smooth (This game has never crashed on me once) ...just makes the social interaction all the more better.

I'd reply but I'm too busy grinding Destiny :p

Re: Bungie - Destiny

Yeah, the social aspect is by far it's strongest feature. I haven't really played in the last few months, but my friend picked it up over the holiday and has been wanting to play. Scott, him and I played for almost 5 hours on Saturday night without breaking a sweat. And I think we only ended up running a few strikes and missions and spent most of the time on Dreadnaught looking for fragments. It's a fun game to hang out and fuck around for awhile.

I do miss the old raids though. Those were some of my best moments from Destiny. Hopefully they become relevant again soon enough.

Playing with friends is a blast - I tend to always play the main story by myself as when the cinematics (especially since there are so few) come up, I can never hear anything because of all the talking and yelling

Bit of good news to ring in the new year...might not seem much to some but others pretty good.

You're Getting Free Stuff in Destiny Later This Week

Stash of Strange Coins running a bit low? Need a few more Motes of Light? Nah, who are we kidding, no one needs more Motes of Light - but Bungie's giving them away all the same. On the 7th January, the developer's dishing out some goodies in Destiny to celebrate the new year.

You'll be able to gather your 15 Strange Coins and 15 Motes of Light from the Postmaster later this week, along with a mystery emblem which will be awarded to Guardians who sign into the game at any point between the 7th and 10th January. How very generous

Well, the holidays have come and gone, but our good friend Xur is still bringing gifts to us all. Well, gifts in the form of 280 Level items that we have to buy, but gifts nonetheless. This week finds Xur bringing us a selection of Year 1 items, most of which came back with the December update.

Xur is located in North Tower, in front of the big ass door across from the Speaker.

Here's the deals!

http://oi66.tinypic.com/2yv2fm0.jpg

For the Titan, it's No Backup Plans. These sucked in Year 1. They suck less in Year 2 as they now give you an overshield on shotgun kills.

For the Hunter, it's Knucklehead Radar. Like third eye? Here you get it on all primaries.

For the Warlock, it's Apotheosis Veil, finally with the Year 2 version. Planet Destiny is finally proved correct! You get your health, melee and grenade back with your Super. Good times.

No engram this week because...

The weapon this week is Dragon's Breath. This used to be the big joke in Year 1. Xur has a Solar Rocket Launcher....but it's Dragon's Breath. But now, it's not a bad weapon. The new napalm perk is pretty useful and does decent damage. It's no longer a joke...at least until we get a Year 2 Gjallarhorn...

The Legacy Engram this week is for Gjallarhorns...I mean Heavy Weapons. Don't buy this unless you need a Gally.

So there we go, what's old is new again. Stay tuned for the video version, coming right up.

Re: Bungie - Destiny

So the Nightfall this week is Alak Hul, the dark blade. But as of right now, nobody has been able to complete it.

It seems that once you get past the first main area (with the door you have to unlock), the next room's door refuses to open after killing all the enemies.

So instead, I did my three sword quests (ironically doing the same strike), and got all 3 swords on my second account. I also got the Touch Of Malice on my second account.

But my Nightfalls will have to wait until Bungie solves the problem. If they could also fix the Nightfalls so that they don't give me crappy ghost shells half the time, that'd be great too.

Obey The D 01-12-16 04:22 PM

Re: Bungie - Destiny

Well they fixed the issue with the nightfall. I'll probably just wait until the weekend to do them. That way I'll have something to do when we don't have enough for a raid.

Re: Bungie - Destiny

So it's that time of the week again, time to check in on old tentacle face himself and see what he's offering all of us this week.

Xur WAS located at the Reef this week. He has now been moved to the Tower hangar, just right of the steps.

http://oi64.tinypic.com/2n82dq9.jpg

For the Titan, it's Ruin Wings. These give you heavy ammo.

For the Hunter, it's the Celestial Nighthawk. 6X Golden Gun shot.

For the Warlock, it's the Impossible Machines. Mini Fist Of Havoc when you launch your Stormcaller super.

No weapon this week because...

The Engram this week is for Helmets. This is the first time since the December Update was released that Xur has offered a Year 2 Engram.

The Legacy Engram this week is for Primary Weapons...you know what I say about this "deal." That being said, if you wanna see what can happen when you do buy these...stay tuned.

As for the Xur Report...I'm sad to say that next week may be the last one I do. I'm going to wait and see what DeeJ has to say with the weekly update next week before making any final decisions, but it seems that interest in Xur's deals has waned quite a bit (as evidenced by the complete lack of posts last week, and lack of people playing this week). But we'll save that all for next time. Stay tuned for videos, coming up next.

OK, so here's the video Xur Report:

<iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/8mx5AUzHcmk" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

And this next one will be Legacy Engrams: A Cautionary Tale.

^ For what it's worth I appreciate your Xur posts and check them out every week!

My guess is he doesn't tend to offer anything so unique that people don't already have. That or they've infused stuff they are happy with.

I agree don't stop. My first stop Friday morning is to check this and the clan thread. As far as lack of logging on to Destiny; work, football playoffs, college championship and online leagues in Madden and NBA 2K took up some of my time. I am still all in on my favorite shooter.

Tough choice for me on this. I like the Helm for the Hunter, set with Titan & Warlock on the other two but wouldn't mind rolling on the Helm and/or Primary though I feel I'm good with several Legendary in the Primary slot.....and thanks Scott for taking the time once again for posting.

Yeah man, please don't stop. I obviously don't play much anymore but still enjoy your report. :D

Re: Bungie - Destiny

We interrupt this praising of the Xur Report to bring you this SPECIAL Xur Report.

Well folks, just when you think it's safe to head back to the Reef and get your Xur on, it turns out that Bungie still hasn't licked the problem with that door. While my video showed that I had no issues at the Reef this morning, apparently that wasn't the case for everyone. Reports on Reddit and Bungies own forums have shown several people being unable to access our tentacle faced friend.

So Xur has once again been moved to the Tower, back in the hangar just to the right of the steps. This is the same location he was moved to the last the time this happened.

I now return you to your previous praising of the Xur Report, already in progress.

once you are light level 300 they have a chance to decrypt at 310
if you are light level 311 they will decrypt at 310
