What's the record of the best selling new IP in the first week?
A quick Google search says Watch Dogs with 4 million.

Will Destiny sell more than that? Absolutely.
8 million? Hmm not sure about that. To be safe my bet is in 6 million. :D

Re: Bungie - Destiny

I do believe Destiny will set a record for first week sales. The buildup since it was first announced, last years show with the XO & PS4 showcased, the Alpha played last week with some unbelievable numbers and right now there is a real hunger for new games since the choices are pretty slim still. Bungie has solid reputation especially with Halo fans who have known about "Destiny" for some time or parts of it. And Destiny brings something that has been lacking so far....a solid Single Player, Co-op and MP experience. On the PS4 there is Warframe that does have all three styles but no question Destiny's vast universe on all Sony & MS systems will be a huge seller. I'm with rsa13...close to 6 million the first week.

Destiny will sell well simply because there's shit-all to play on the PS4 this year. I haven't turned mine on in 2 months.

IF they didn't censor all the good stuff on the live streaming, the PS4 would be on a lot more ;)

Huh, they canceled Watch Dogs for PS4? I must have missed that bulletin. :P

Thought Watch Dogs and Infamous were supremely disappointing. Honestly, I've spent more time playing Titanfall on my PC than anyhting on the PS4 this year. I know it'll get better, but they could have (and probably should have) launched this thing in 2014.

American preorders updated...12 weeks out Destiny added 64,482 new preorders vs Watch Dogs which added 9,280 12 weeks out.

Current Destiny preorders are sitting at 873,000 with 3 full months left. This week or early next week Destiny will pass the final preorder count of Watch Dogs the day before it came out...topping that number with 10-11 more weeks to go.

Edit to add that the last two weeks Destiny has added right at 100,000 preorders vs Watch Dogs which added 15,000 the same time frame.

Also worth pointing out it was not just the PS4 version that did well...with no alpha the xbox one version added 7,000 more preorders than Watch Dogs did on all systems 12 weeks out...

Your numbers are flawed. I preordered Destiny at Target for $1 (to get the $15 off last week) that I have no intention of picking up.

I did too

I also had it preordered from Amazon (for access to the beta) and Best Buy (for unlocked - the order I actually plan on keeping)

absolutely pre-order #'s are not a definitive indicator since there is no guarantee and in most all cases no penalty for not going through with the purchase
but just as WD preorders were referenced those were just as unreliable

Destiny pre-order #'s could be less reliable as an final indicator as the preorder grants you beta access but again you can still cancel after getting that perk

I preordered 3 copies at Target to get the $15 off; not picking these up.
Preordered 1 at Amazon to get the beta access code; preorder has been canceled.
Preordered 1 at BB once I joined GLU; I will be picking this one up.

According to DVDTalk Destiny won't sell more than 1 million units.

Re: Bungie - Destiny

fortunately vgchartz does not get its info from target, or wal-mart or even best buy(those companies don't share their info) No one knows for sure where he gets his information but it was speculated that he gets info from a few smaller chains along with some info from some select gamestops, and over the years they have gotten good at multiplying that number out.

There is something to be said though about people pre ordering to get into the beta. As long as it delivers like the Alpha though I doubt people are going to cancel their order.

Re: Bungie - Destiny

I did the $1 pre-buy to save $15 too. Was going to skip it (I'm tired of FPS in general, especially Halo), but then I played the demo and am now sold on this game.

Just a reminder that Bungie has stated the Beta will be different than the Alpha and they were working on fine tuning before the Alpha even finished. I think we're probably in store for even more pleasant surprises. The question I have will what we accumulate in the Beta be saved and moved to the game? That I hope will happen this time around...

Re: Bungie - Destiny

Quality aside, are people really only interested in playing games they've already played before? Because while Destiny is nice and all, it's just the same stuff, regurgitated, and served up with a fresh coat of paint. Devs don't seem to want to take a gamble on new ideas for big-budget games anymore. Guess I can't blame them with all that money at steak, but it's still kind of a bummer how all triple-A games now are the same exact games we've all been playing for more than 10 years now.

If that 'new' game is mashing up genres/game types and trying something different and not just pumping out a yearly sequel, sure. All in. However you can keep your Tour of WolfenDutyfield 19 and your Madden (insert year here) offerings.

Also it's a silly complaint on this forum as most the people here do love the smaller games, quirky games, or unique games that come out. Destiny is just another game here. It will stand next to Resogun, Pikmin and Peggle to name a few. This forum's users (well 98% of us) aren't the problem.
