If you don't care for the "tiny" Youtube screen the offical site has the new footage up and is much bigger. The game is really amazing looking.

Meh. As with every Ubisoft game, I'll wait 'til it's around $20 to $30.

I'm curious, are Abstergo and Desmond still involved in the stories of these games? I've played them all except ACIII. Are Connor from ACIII and now Edward from Black Flag descendants of the previous games' assassins?

re: Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag (2014 OUT NOW)

Connor is the descendant of Edward. So they're going to a previous Assassin instead of the next in line. Though I couldn't bring myself to finish playing ACIII, I know that in the end of that game
Spoiler:
Desmond lets himself die (to save the world in an anti-climactic and illogical manner) some time after he kills Vidick. No word as to whether that was the end of Abstergo but I doubt it.

Not sure how I feel about this one. Love the setting, so I will probably end up getting it, but the naval combat looks really unrealistic. I'm also worried how quickly it seems to be coming together - this game was only announced a few months ago and now we already have gameplay footage? If the quality of the last few annual releases is any indication, that's not a good sign. Although that spoiled ending to AssCreed 3 gives me hope there won't be any animus crap in this game. For once I'd just like a straight up historical fiction game that relies on its own setting and internal narrative without having to tie-in to the non-sensical animus stuff.

EDIT: And, new gameplay:

If anything this game might be the most stunning visual wise of all the games especially on the PS4 & XO.

Assassin's Creed 4 trailer highlights next-gen pretties

http://www.shacknews.com/article/811...t-gen-pretties

"'Next-gen bush?' I want to see a next-gen bush," I've said every morning since hearing about Assassin's Creed IV's shiny next-gen versions. At long last, a new trailer gives a close-up look at all the fancy tech and effects in the open-world murder simulator's posh versions, for people who like gawping at render passes.

The list of pretty includes dynamic foliage, rolling seas and extra-pretty shallow waters, a weather system with oodles of rain particles and shiny dynamic rippling wetness, and global illumination. All versions have similar effects of course, and some like the dynamic navmesh for boarding ships are downright crucial, but they're all next-gen on next-gen systems, see.

AC4 comes to Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Wii U on October 29, then Xbox One and PS4.

I wonder if the Next Gen effects will also be on the PC version or if Ubisoft will pull an EA (with FIFA 14) and keep all the pretty new graphics exclusive to the PS4 and Xbox One.

No DLC for the Wii U.

Yesterday Ubisoft announced the Season Pass for Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag, revealing a new story, exclusive content and a 20 per cent discount.

We noticed then that Wii U wasn't mentioned anywhere on the press release, and this morning Gamereactor Germany contacted their representatives, who informed them that there'd be no DLC for the Wii U version of ACIV. Gamereactor UK has contacted Ubisoft's UK representatives, and are awaiting their response.

Given that the Wii U version will account for about 1% of the sales, I'm not surprised.

Waiting for next-gen: why 'Assassin's Creed IV' won't make you buy an Xbox One or PS4

Did they really expect two different games on the different generation systems? Yes, graphical improvements, frame rates and higher resolution are things we should expect from this next generation. As far as game play goes there isn't much left they can do other than transplanting your ass in the Caribbean and making you a pirate yourself. I'm really not sure what some people expect from the next-gen systems.

Brian Tyler's score for ACIV:BF is fantastic.

Well, yeah, but a "next console generation" improvement?

There was a way bigger difference between early PS3 games vs. later PS2 games.

True. But I think we're just at the point of diminishing returns. Especially when dealing with a multiplatform game, short of creating an entirely different engine for its next gen counterpart.

This

Franchises using older game engines (Assassins Creed, Call of Duty, etc), are going to have a harder time showing that next gen leap. These game franchises really need to take a year off and get a fresh start. They should really be the leaders of next gen, not the followers.

re: Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag (2014 OUT NOW)

On the comparison of the PS3 & PS4 the focus is always on the character models which is why most really don't see much difference. It's that way with a lot of the current gen games. The real difference is on the environment and surroundings...like the water, the wood on the ship, etc...

Second...we're seeing a game on a system Devs have had to work with for 5-6 years to really fine tune and they haven't even scratched the surface with the nex gen consoles.

re: Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag (2014 OUT NOW)

Wow, the game looks almost identical on both consoles. Obviously the PS4 has a better draw distance and doesn't need to add "fog" in the distance, but that's about it. I'm sure the X1 will look the same as well. Not a great upgrade for a next gen purchase but it was most likely just a port anyways.
