Re: Dark Souls II (3/11/2014 -- PS3, 360, PC)

Some questions on NG+;

Do spells re-stock? Meaning If I buy every spell from the merchants, will they sell me more on NG+? There were some spells that don't seem very useful now. Is it wise to purchase every spell in the case i would need it on tougher/different enemies? Like If I focus on Hex on + I should buy them now?

I have a few twinkling twilight and a ton of titanite slabs. Should i just wait to use them on better weapons in NG+?

Spells do re-stock in NG+. You really just playing a new game with some changes, like fighting more red invaders, some bosses will be difficult because they have extras enemies to fight you. You can also get new spell like Crystal Soul Spear after you beat a boss by trading that boss soul to a certain merchant. As for using twinkling twight, it all depend how you're playing. Since I'm playing a sorcerer really didn't need a weapon that much. I have the Moonlight Greatsword which I got by using the bonfire ascetic. I might use it on the Blue Flame sword which can be use as a weapon and catalyst.

Re: Dark Souls II (3/11/2014 -- PS3, 360, PC)

Luckily Steam gives a "pre-load" option with Dark Souls 2, so I was able to download the entire game last night. I just have to wait for it to unlock tonight to play. I am really getting excited. I hope I don't have any installation issues. I have an older laptop, but I can play all 360/PS3 games pretty well. I can't max them out of course, but I can play them at least on the same level of performance that the consoles have and a little better once and a while. The most recent cross platform games I have played are Bioshock Infinite and Dishonored. If I can play those with flying colors, Dark Souls 2 shouldn't be a problem. I am not one of those gamers that have to have max resolution and 60 FPS. Being a console gamer for most of my life, I am perfectly fine with 25-30 FPS.

Cool to know, wlj.

Keep us posted if able to play the game. As for starting class, I play as sorcerer and really have no problem, you do start slow because of weaker spell but later you find more powerful spell in chest or corpes and finding NPC that sell spells. So far I'm on NG+ and almost about to finish to play on NG++. Don't count out the cleric. Seem a popular build on PS3. I have one on my second build and the miracle spell Lighting Spear is pretty awesome. Need to get Great Lighting Spear and Sunlight Spear for the tougher boss ahead.

Forest of Fallen Giants. Enemies are much easier plus you can get a good weapon earlier. Heide's Tower of Flame you could tried to go there but the area is full of Old Knights which are much tougher to take on earlier.
To be fairly vague to avoid spoilers, I actually found the Tower easier than the Forest, maybe I spent too much time fighting the giant sentinels in Anor Londo. After an intial foray to the Forest and getting some stuff from the Merchant hag, I went the Tower route for a while, and didn't loop back to the Forest until later.

i am leaning toward sorcerer as well. I mainly played melee in DS1, but on my Sorcerer playthrough, I was basically God. I was destroying everything in my path. Smough/Ornstein went down in just a few hits.

here is a vid of my sorcerer:

"Petrified Something" is the gift I always take. It can grant you a really good weapon right from the start, although they do require some fairly serious stat investments that might not jive with what your intentions for your starting class are.

Well, I played DS2 for about 3 hours tonight. Luckily the game runs very well on my crappy laptop. I am happy about that. Having not played Dark Souls for 7 or 8 months, I am rusty as holy hell. I suck bad right now. However, the game does seem harder than the first. I am not very far, only in the Fallen Giants area right now. I have died alot so far.

It's probably just rust then. Overall the game is much much easier than Dark Souls. Especially when you consider bonfire placement.

The fast travel option is pretty neat. Losing life bar after each death does sting a bit though.

You could tried to go
Spoiler:
Heide's Tower of Flame go all the way up to left running past Old Knights, they're slow so hopefully you don't get hit. There a switch, pull it to lower the bridge. Quickly run up the bridge, there a chest, open it to find the Ring of Bindling which stop the life bar for going down if you died.

Human Effigy is your friend. I usually have 20 or so stocked in my inventory. One of the enemies at Shrine of Armana drops them a lot. You'll find a lot throughout. They restore your lifebar.

Took down Throne Watcher and Throne Defender on 3rd try solo. My strategy was to get both down to the same health and when I have em low enough I used soul spears to finish em off before they can regenerate each other.

Holy crap you weren't kidding. I was still able to two-shot GD and a soul spear and he went down. That spell kicks ass! I wish I could've seen it pre-nerfed

I love the spell so much I farmed the crap out of it. 3 hours later and I now have 27 SG casts

Soul Level 221 with 146 hrs 30 min. logged. Very fun weekend

Re: Dark Souls II (3/11/2014 -- PS3, 360, PC)

well, I got pissed with the game and i took a couple of days off. I went back and restarted with the cleric class. Which was a good move...the heal miracle and mace is really good. I decided to quit rushing and farm some. I leveled up some then I upgraded my mace to +3. I was able to finally get that Ring of Binding which takes alot of frustration out of the game. I fought my way through the Giants area and made it to the boss -- Last Giant. He turned out to be rather easy. I called it a night after that. Now, I am afraid my game has glitched somewhat. i got the white soapstone, but it doesn't work. I am human when i try to use it, I don't see summon signs and i cannot put down my sign. Am I doing something wrong?

Whoa 27 SG seem to be a bit of overkill.

I had just 6 SG on NG+ since my attunement is over 50 plus wearing the hexer hood which give more casts. That real just enough for me. Got a hexer built I'm running now. I'm mostly casting hex spells. Affinity is pretty cool spell. Just like homing soul spear but more damage. Got Dark Fog and going to tried to get the Bat Staff which have poison damage which make the spell even more deadly.

Well no f***ing wonder I am having issues. I joined the company of heroes covenant in Majula. I had no clue it made the enemies harder and turned off co-op. I just freaking read this on the wiki.

It warns you before you join, doesn't it?

Remember, this is Dark Souls. Be wary at all times.

it says something, about a "something" path, but in no way would I infer that the enemies damage will be boosted and co-op turned off.

Anyway, after i left the covenant everything felt "right" again. I progressed to the wharf. I have not defeated the Old Dragon Slayer yet. I laughed my ass off when I saw it was Ornstein...awesome.

There a easy way to kill the Dragonrider boss not the Old Dragonslayer. It involved not pulling the switch. Check out the Youtube to see it. Not sure if From can do anything about this easy cheat kill.

Not sure what going on but I keep getting invaded by red phantom player in Shaded Ruins two times so far. Glad I join the Way of Blue covenant I get blue phantom player to assist me. First invader we able to beat but the second invader had better gears than the blue player and pretty much killed him, which mean I had to fight him alone with almost my spell wasted and got killed. Very annoying.

Okay guys It looks like I should wrap this game up by tonight or tomorrow. I'm gonna take a break before coming back to NG+. Which leaves me with two choices to game. Dark Souls or Demon Souls? I was thinking Demons first since that seems likely the servers will be shut down quicker than Dark Souls would.

Re: Dark Souls II (3/11/2014 -- PS3, 360, PC)

Just picked up the game on the PC...bunch of my students have been taunting me about playing it and I no longer could resist its siren call.

Decided to open with Swordsman class; all this seemed to do is remind me that I'm terrible at parrying.

Good times.
