Re: Far Cry 3 (December 4)
All I can say is that the co-op missions make you want to scream bloody murder. Some of the sections are overly long and the convoy section towards the end of the second level is seemingly impossible with only two players. Anyone here have it on the PS3 and willing to do some co-op with us?

Ordered a 7950 videocard, so I'll be playing the game this weekend. So excited!

It is a pain. Do you have a PS3 or 360?

Re: Far Cry 3 (December 4)
So I finished the game tonight. Weird for me to finish a game in a week, but had some extra time so I played more.
Anyhow, it did get repetitive toward the end, like someone said before too many hallucination missions. Also very predictable. The ending was a joke basically. All it was is Spoiler:
I'd give it a solid A- in terms of fun, but I don't plan on playing co-op or multiplayer so this will get traded in this weekend. |
Re: Far Cry 3 (December 4)
I rented this last night with a Redbox code I got texted to me. I played for about an hour. I really liked it, thought it was a lot of fun. Very reminiscent of Far Cry 2 in a lot of ways, but more fun and less dead empty space. I really enjoyed my time with it and will pick it up when it drops cheap. Very stressful tutorial! Liked hunting for leaves for medkits. That was sort of clever. And the capturing radio tower thing was a cool mechanic though I'm still fuzzy about why that gives you free weapons.

Re: Far Cry 3 (December 4)
finished...
A good game, with very strong moments, but lessened a bit by a story that did not grab me and an ending that had me rolling my eyes. Not as good as Far Cry 2, but worth a purchase. |
Re: Far Cry 3 (December 4)
Well, just played the first 30 mins or so (PC version), and wow! I'm hooked!
I expect to spend most of my weekend playing this game. How long is the main story? I'm playing in Normal (medium?) |
Re: Far Cry 3 (December 4)
Damn the developers for putting relics out deep in shark infested waters!

Re: Far Cry 3 (December 4)
Only 10% done, according to the stats screen, but this is becoming my GOTY so far.
I can only imagine the Design meeting, "what if combine this part of this game, and this part from this other game, and so on...". Most of the results are disastrous. But it seems they really did it. The game is so awesome. One con already, with only 5-6 hours played, and this should be a 40+ hrs game for me, the save system sucks. I'm trying to open some parts of the map, and my next mission is there, I learned the hard way that if you get the tower, you have to complete the mission too, other way you'll lose it. Or it won't clear the map. No big deal, but being an open game, it can make you lose some playtime. |

I did a save after everything I did and it always saved it...maybe I am not understanding what you are saying? Or are you getting the towers during an actual mission? If that is the case, I never did that. I cleared out the towers before I started a mission.... |
Re: Far Cry 3 (December 4)
Yeah, it's almost at the beginning. Getting to the tower triggers the mission also.
|
Re: Far Cry 3 (December 4)
The game makes you feel really weak and scared as a player when you start out. However, as I have collected about 80 of the relics and all of the letters on the first island I feel much more powerful with my skills, weapons, and all of the northern island's towers and outposts under my control. I am not even to the halfway point of the story as I'm trying to take care of most of the minor stuff before I plow through to the end.

Re: Far Cry 3 (December 4)
This game looks gorgeous in a PC. Specially in Ultra settings. :D
And oh yeah, being PC, had a lot of crashes for a couple of days, then they released a patch yesterday and everything is smooth again. |
Re: Far Cry 3 (December 4)
I finished the story last night and only need the poker trophy and the last 4 co-op trophies for the Plat.

Re: Far Cry 3 (December 4)
Are the animal skins useful for anything once you have everything? Besides selling them I mean.
I crafter almost everything, the things missing are hunter trophies, or something like that. So what do I do with all the skins I have? |

Picked this up at target today for 43 bucks...really interested in playing this one..gonna start tonight after work.

Re: Far Cry 3 (December 4)
Why won't Amazon price match Target!

Re: Far Cry 3 (December 4)
This game is f'n great. I love how you can literally hide from the enemy and plot out how you want any scenario to go down.
This game has such a mean streak...you really feel like you are in deep shit all of the time. The hunting is much more effective here then in red dead redemption..some animals you just feel bad for killing and the way...lets say a tiger gets ready before attacking you is just awesome. I love the trippy sequences you go through at times and the music is just awesome. I am taking my time with this one storywise - I really dig it. My only complaint so far is that...well, the damn clouds don't move!! lol yeah I know it's minor but still. Easily GOTY for me so far. |
Re: Far Cry 3 (December 4)
I just finished this today.
In terms of game play mechanics I would give it a 9/10. A few hiccups but overall it's a great shooter. I skipped FC2 because after an hour I was sick of the gameplay mechanics. The story is another thing entirely. Individually I like a lot of the missions, and I like that they made it more cinematic and story driven, like the last few Modern Warfare games. But this has a few more blemishes than the rest of the game. The "boss" fights suck. All three are psychedelic trips that skip over reality, and minor spoiler Spoiler:
As for the story overall, well I've read some interviews with the director/writer and I think whatever message he was trying to get across it was mostly a failure. |
Re: Far Cry 3 (December 4)
I don't think games like these really need "boss" fights but rather progressively increasing difficulty and more intricate missions as you move along. The boss fights take me out of the reality feeling that I get while playing the rest of the game.

Re: Far Cry 3 (December 4)
I'm getting my ass handed to me in the cocaine fields...I've tried so many different methods but I just keep running out of ammo...looks like I have to go hunting to build more pouches.
Anyone have trouble with this mission? |
Re: Far Cry 3 (December 4)
Sniper is your friend?
They have the typical flammable objects that you can shoot... I mean if it's that mission where you have to put everything on fire. About the story, I started, and the first 10 hours or so, I was exploring, hunting, etc. just opening the map. 3/4 of the map are "free", and then decided to continue with the main story. At first I thought the story was kinda lame, then I thought it was an inferior Uncharted copy, and right now, around 60% done with the main story, I think is getting a little bit fine, almost good. It seems they had good ideas, but they just couldn't deliver. It's a big game, so I don't blame them. Still strong candidate to GOTY for me. |
