You might want to wait a couple more months once they have their first price drop. That way you can still keep your Wii for Gamecube games (if you have any) and you still save $50 or more. Just a suggestion.

Your Wiimotes will work fine with the U. It comes with the same sensor bar. I picked up a controller which works as either a Wii or Wii U Pro controller. It's great; I just need more games to use it with.

I don't... but my son turned 5 and has been pressing me to get one. I love the idea of the VC stuff on the handheld thing too. Truthfully, I don't need this but I've pretty much owned every console since the Atari 2600 so I almost feel obligated to give it a fair shake.

my kids love using the Wii U for watching stuff as well, like YouTube for Minecraft videos or Netflix for cartoons. my 4 year old can navigate the picture heavy menu on the gamepad for netflix

Wait for a sale / more games to come out. My 4 year old used to play Scribblenauts everyday before it started randomly freezing. She has given up trying to play anything on the Wii U. I updated the system the other day thinking that they may have fixed the freezing issues with that last update but the damn thing froze while it was loading Scribblenauts. I turned the system off and haven't bothered messing with it since.

This. If the Wii (a console with a thousand games) is a paperweight, then then WiiU with a few dozen won't be any different.
