Yep,
That would make my wife and I play more often. We will see tomorrow, but that rumor sure seems plausible.

Then again, they whiffed on the Luigi's Mansion sequel as well. You have a character carrying around a wand which goes hand in hand with the wiimote...so let's put it on the 3DS.

I finally got through Club Nintendo to grab DKC Tropical Freeze....Just to find out I'm out of storage space
So now I'm looking at external storage options, would something like this work?

Re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo
The word is that these really aren't refurbished units in the traditional sense. They're returns/overstock, never opened or touched by another customer. The components are taken out of the original box and put in custom packaging. This box is basically identical but has "refurbished unit" (or something similar) printed all over it in big, red letters.
My experience was the same as what I've read on numerous gaming forums: everything in the box was brand new. I mean, if you take basically anything that's ever passed through your hands and hold it up right against your face -- no matter how delicate and careful you've been with it -- you'll see very tiny microscratches on it. It's just the way of the world. There's nothing like that, not even a little, with the gamepad, the console itself, etc. Everyone's said the same thing in every forum thread about this I've read (including multiple discussions on NeoGAF, and if there's a nit to be picked, they'll find it). These are brand new or so close to it that they might as well be.
Aside from 'refurbished unit' being printed on the box, the only difference between this and buying a new unit at retail is the lack of the charging cradle. You can buy those for a few bucks online (a little pricier than usual direct from Amazon at the moment), and you don't need one to charge your gamepad. The cradle is just more convenient since you don't have to physically plug a cable into the gamepad to charge it.
I have nothing but the very best things to say about my experience buying a "refurbished" Wii U directly from Nintendo. (A refurb from, say, Gamestop is a whole other story, of course.) If you have any concerns, Nintendo's refurbs come with a warranty, so there's really nothing to lose.

Most people use a combination like these although it also uses USB to power the drive.

My Wii U currently has my old PS4 HD hooked up to it with a Y-Cable. Works no with no problem.

I got the refurbished Wii U. Looked new. Have no complaints. The warranty lasts a full year. I've had good luck with all the refurbs that I've bought, but I only buy them refurbed by the manufacturer.
I've seen a few complaints about 2.5" drives with y-cables having problems. Working fine initially, then the console being unable to read from it and all saves being lost. Enough instances that I would be more comfortable with one powered from an electrical outlet rather than the bus.

I see no mention of it here but Mario 64 is now on the WII U VC
If you already own it through WII mode you can upgrade for only 2 bucks but the saved games don't seem to transfer over

I ended up ordering a 32GB thumb drive and so far it's working pretty good. Moved a couple games over there and was able to start downloading DKC Tropical Freeze.

I wouldn't be surprised if the new Zelda ends up on the NX, just like TP ended up on Wii.

Re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo
I think that's overblown. I mean, I am fully expecting 2015 to be the last "big" year for the Wii U, but 2016 is still shaping up to be a hell of a lot better than what we saw for the Wii in its dying days.
Nintendo's first party Wii titles in 2011 were mostly mediocre minigame collections along with Skyward Sword and Kirby's Return to Dream Land. 2012 saw the barely released Xenoblade Chronicles, a Kirby collection I didn't know existed until just now, and the not terribly well-liked Mario Party 9.
Nintendo generally doesn't announce titles very far in advance. During E3 in 2013, didn't Nintendo announce Tropical Freeze, Mario Kart 8, and Super Mario 3D World, all of which debuted less than a year later? It was the same deal with Treasure Tracker and Splatoon last year. I'm sure we'll get looks at some 2016 titles at E3 this year that we haven't heard about yet (Pokken, maybe? another remaster?), along with Zelda and SMTxFE. I'd argue that's already a stronger showing than what we saw with the Wii in 2011/2012.
It wouldn't surprise me if some of the Wii U titles that were in somewhat early development -- games we haven't even heard about yet -- get shuffled to the next console instead, though. I don't think it'd be too crazy for Nintendo to take some games out of their overstuffed-by-their-standards 2015 and delay them into next year just to take care of some of the gaps. (After all, they delayed the fully complete Tropical Freeze into 2014 so that Mario Kart 8 wouldn't be the only retail release for the first half of the year.)
I'd wait until E3 before writing any articles like this. I'm sure we're seeing Nintendo ease back on the Wii U as they prepare for whatever's next, but I think this will be a better transition than usual.

It just doesn't make any sense. It's like Nintendo hasn't even been trying to push the system out there. Certainly their first party titles look fantastic and are critically well received, but they've mostly just been near identical rehashes. They pretty much signified they don't care about 3rd party developers.
It's like they realized they screwed up somewhere along the line and want to recover by burying this as an "off" generation? Or something? I am curious to see what they have in store for the NX.

Re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo
I'd definitely agree that Nintendo was overly conservative in the early days of the Wii U, but I've honestly been really impressed by the diversity of what they've been releasing lately and with what's on the horizon.
There's nothing out there like The Wonderful 101. NES Remix is really unique, even if it technically is a rehash. Ditto for Mario Maker. I know Kirby and the Rainbow Curse is an awful lot like Canvas Curse, but there's nothing really like it for a console. Fatal Frame, Devil's Third, and Bayonetta 2 are light years removed from what anyone would normally expect Nintendo to publish. They've developed and/or published musou, a mammoth JRPG, a third-person multiplayer arena shooter, tower defense, aerial shooter, real-time strategy, and even a Lego-themed, family-friendly take on a third-person sandbox game, along with their usual platformers, puzzle games, music games, racing games, fighting games, action/adventure, and party games/minigame collections.
I love my Xbox One, and I love my PS4, but neither library comes close to matching the breadth and quality that the Wii U has. At the same time, I think the Wii U as a console is commercially toxic and has been since pretty close to day one. It's the wrong console at the wrong time, devoid of an identity of its own and trying to coast on the Wii juggernaut which had zero momentum by 2012. If Nintendo were to go nuts and heavily promote the Wii U, slash the price, etc., etc., etc., it wouldn't make a meaningful difference and, financially, probably do more harm than good. It's a console people fundamentally do not want. Releasing quality software to keep the existing fanbase happy, learning lessons for what to do/what not to do next time, and basically just riding out this generation is probably the right move, considering the state of things right now.

Winding down after 2.5 years?
Lesson learned Nintendo, lesson learned. Good luck with your NX launch.

Re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo
It's a speculatory article. 2015 is the Wii U at full steam, software-wise, not a winding down year. (Even with Zelda delayed, Nintendo has a crazy amount of stuff coming out this year.) 2016 will probably be a decent but considerably slower year, and 2017 (if a successor isn't already out before then) will almost certainly be barren.

Re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo
I wouldn't assume that NX is going to be a home console. 3DS is a bit older. I've read that Nintendo is thinking of going with a unified architecture for their next portable and home consoles. That they want to make it easier for their developers to go back and forth. I'd think it would easier to start ramping up on smaller games for the portable, then bring out the home console once they've gotten the familiarity.
