Ah, I was wondering why I couldn't access it from AC3's menu.

Walked in to a Gamestop this morning and bought a deluxe version off of the shelf. They had maybe 6 or so. I'd talked to another Gamestop yesterday who said they'd received 12 that day.

I'd say cancel that order and just go to a B&M Gamestop...or Walmart, or Target, or Best Buy. Apparently these aren't as hard to find as people think.

Saw a few in the wild at K-mart on Thanksgiving. Screw the waiting list. Just drive/call around.

I don't think you can get any money back on stuff you have preordered at GS, right? They always tell me that you have to apply it to something else, and preferably another preorder. Yeah, I know.

As for ZombiU, remember this message from the other day saying to come back on Wednesday (today)?

Here is what it says now, this could be very interesting...

Yeah , this definitely appears to not be an issue in getting this holiday season. Was over by TRU and they had 4 of the regular version. Then when I was over by Gamestop the guy said his manager took the 5 regular versions that were just sitting there and by taking 1 each to individual stores that did not have them he was able to sell them off. He mentioned he had 4 of the deluxe that were spoken for but that the people still have not called back about. I have a feeling they are probably "flippers" having second thoughts since it looks like the profit on these things are much lower than last time around, that's for sure.

You can absolutely get your money back. I did as much when I heard the Skylanders battle pack "exclusive" pack was nothing more than a paint job.

One kinda neat thing about the Wii U: I was playing AC3, and wanted to check something in the system manual. Hit the home button, went to manual, and I got the manual for AC3! Turns out the manuals are contextual.

Went out at lunch and hit up a Target. Got everything I wanted. Now hopefully Gamestop will cancel my order.

For anyone looking in the DC/Northern VA area, the Toys r Us in Kingstowne had both versions of the WiiU in stock. This was at 11:00 this morning so I'd call before making the trip.

re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo

I finally got a quiet night here at home to unpack this thing and hook it up while nobody else is up and feeling curious.

Almost had a panic attack when I went to sync up the pad but I guess I was just too excited and entered the wrong symbol in. Just waiting for the update to finish and then I might go ahead and register my Mii so I can toss my name up in here. Going to be very tough to test parts of this out and not rip open my copy of Mario to test it out further.

Got it all up and running. My ID is MasterofDVD and I went ahead and added

Downhome

re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo

Not here to bad mouth the WiiU since I myself am definitely interested in getting one but as previously mentioned not at this price point. So what are people's opinion as to why the lack of success of this thing not selling out. Or for once could it be that a video game company FINALLY produced easily enough units to fill a very healthy demand for it, albeit not like the demand that was there for the previous systems. Just wondering is it the economy for example, or did they put this system right in between the hardcore gamer and casual gamer niche too much. I just mention this based on the listing I saw yesterday of how it appears the "flippers" are definitely not getting a good return. How bad you might wonder, in the case of this listing they did not even make back their money if you were to buy it individually. The listing only went for $525 and shipping was only $20. That is the not the sign of the "MUST OWN" toy of the holiday season. Must say I'm kind of shocked. Perhapss I'll see you guys online sooner rather than later if this trend holds up.

Wii deluxe
Super Mario
ZombieU
Epic Mickey

re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo

Nobody bought the Wii because it was Nintendo, they bought it because it had Bowling and Tennis.

For a game console, $300 - $350 is a respectably priced launch, but there isn't much to differentiate the Wii U from the Wii. A second screen feature isn't the selling point Nintendo thought it could be, even though I find it endlessly more interesting than the motion controls from the original.

It doesn't have the instant "party" appeal of the original Wii yet.

It doesn't have graphics that improve on other current gen consoles.

There's just no real demand for it basically so I think they will spin it how they want. I think it has a ton of potential, but if sales don't pick up I don't see it ever being met. Right now what are the key games? Not Black Ops 2 or Assassin's Creed since most gamers who play either series will have it on the 360, PC or PS3. So we basically come down to New Super Mario Bros Wii U and ZombiU. ZombiU has the best atmosphere since Condemned but that also wasn't much of a system seller. NSMB Wii U is fun enough but the formula has worn thin to the point where I almost wish it was New Super Meat Boy Wii U, at least there'd be some challenge there.

There is a boat load of potential with the system if Nintendo does it right, and I have absolutely no buyers remorse, but this launch was not right.

Yep, not a good launch. But I bought it for Bayonetta 2, and because shiny.

So it's not a success because Nintendo managed to out supply resellers? Okay.

I'm thinking less that and more because the Xbox 360 managed to sell nearly double what the Wii U did in the same week. But then there are more 360s out there, they are cheaper, and have a richer library - but it's also a 7 year old (almost to the day) console.

There's not much pointing to this being a particularly successful launch, not a flop, just not a total success.

re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo

Played New Super Mario Bros U last night. It's a lot of fun. Is it possible to turn off the screen on the Gamepad so I can just use the larger display? Seems like a waste of battery life to have the same thing showing on both screens.
