Re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo

I bought this Wii U Charging System and I was wondering if it's ok to leave everything in the charging station once everything is charged? I have limited space on my entertainment system and I don't know what I would do with the controllers if I couldn't leave them on it all the time.

Yeah, the gamepad is meant to stay in the cradle when not in use. It's designed to stop taking a charge when it's full, so the battery won't get messed up if you leave it charging the way other lithium ion-powered products have in the past.

Not helpful now but, always good to hook it up prior to Christmas to get all the updates.

I hooked up and updated my daughter's system and it was the slowest update of any gaming console ever. Aside from that, she is really enjoying this console. She can play on the gamepad while we watch something else on tv.

If you get the Mario/Nintendo Land bundle or the Mario Kart 8 bundle, they come with a note inside that suggests you bypass setting up the Internet configuration initially and perform the system update by inserting either Mario Kart or Mario 3D World disc. Once the system update applies from the disc, you can go and set up the Wi-Fi. It claims this greatly reduces update time.

Re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo

I think my refurb must have originally been one of the pre-installed Super Mario 3D World/Nintendo Land bundles. I have the full games and they're linked to my Nintendo ID. So a better deal than I was expecting.

If a console is going to offer non-disc game bundles, this is the way to go. I'll probably never download the "bundled" Assassins Creeds games on Xbox One because they would bog down my internet connection for a week

Yeah, I saw the note after we sat through that hour long update. lol! Anyways, it is up and running now and my daughter is really enjoying it, which is all that matters.

Let's all play "Help the Idiot."

The family LOVES the WiiU. Nintendo Land, Super Mario 3D, and Smash have all been big hits.

However, I can't figure out Amiibos. To be precise, I can't figure out how to get them to play FOR me. I can assign them to players, get them into the fight, but can't figure out how to make them play "on a team, " so to speak.

Who wants to play "Help the Idiot?"

When you're on the character selection screen, it should say "Smash" with a red background in the top-left. Select/click that, and it'll change to "Team Battle". It'll let you assign players to Red Team, Blue Team, and Green Team (maybe more in 8 player mode?) after that.

Got it. Thank you!

Although I don't understand why they have to have an "owner" since I don't think it distinguishes who's playing.

Man, I should've gone for the that digital sale of Super Mario 3D World when it was around $40 on the eShop. I know Nintendo titles hardly ever go on sale, but I just can't justify spending more than $30 for it. Maybe one day...

Sears had it on their website recently for $29.99. I was able to pm to Best Buy over the phone as they actually found a Sears with one in stock about 40 minutes from me. I think Sears might be getting rid of a bunch their video game dept., at least Nintendo Wii products. They also had Wii remotes as low as $4.xx. But I believe they were very hard to find as most stores did not carry them any more.

I was also able to pick up Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze at Kmart recently for $20(after a $10 coupon I might add). Kmart also had a deal about a month ago where you could get Skylanders SwapForce for any system for around $50 plus you got $55 in ShopYourWay points. I paid around $10 out of pocket for it and gave it to my daughter(along with the other Wii U games mentioned) for Christmas. Plus they had a bunch of other Wii U games marked down. It's just a matter of finding a store with anything in stock.

Does anyone know if the Wii Sports Club has or will be getting Frisbee Golf?

It doesn't. With baseball and boxing having come out last June, and the already-out-of-print physical release following in July, I think that's all she wrote for Wii Sports Club.

I guess there's always the digital download, but someone pointed out to me that Pikmin 3's physical copy seems to be going out of print...

Re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo

Can someone recommend a good external hard drive for the Wii U? We are just about out of memory for this thing and we just fired it up for the first time on Christmas Eve. Why in the world did Nintendo make this system with just 32 GB of storage?

To save money? Because they had no digital download plan?

Seriously, the digital deluxe points program that all early adopters got is ending in April, and I bet few people even noticed/remembered (not that they made it easy to redeem). While it's gotten better this past year, there was pretty much nothing to buy for the first year or so, and certainly without an external hard drive buying digitally for a game which was also available in a physical format wasn't a very attractive option.

The only reason I ran out of space is because I bought the one game that seems to go lower and lower and lower every sale, Darksiders 2. And that was only because it was super cheap.

I plan on picking up a WiiU game for the first time basically since launch. Should I go with 3D Mario World or Tropical Freeze? I've already played through Rayman and NSMBU.

I got a Western Digital portable 1TB drive for 59 bucks on amazon before xmas. You also need to get the "double USB to western digital" connector which i found in the section of "people who bought this drive also bought this:". it was 6 or 7 bucks.

Of those two, I'd definitely go for Super Mario 3D World. I'm personally not much of a fan of Tropical Freeze, although that's more on me than the game itself. (This was my first Donkey Kong Country game.) The difficulty is just too friggin' brutal for me. It comes from that die-and-retry school of game design, and I got so sick of having to replay the same parts, moving forward a few inches once I finally completed them, then enduring that same endlessly repeating cycle again that I gave up halfway through the second batch of levels. I don't want games to be a cakewalk, but Tropical Freeze was just too frustrating for me. Of course, a whole bunch of people love that, so that might not be a minus for you!

Thanks. I was a big fan of the SNES DKC games but I want something my gf can play with me. If it's that difficult, SM3D is probably the better option.
