You mean random (repetative) battles, no overworld map and having to grind for hours on end is better? I'm all for JRPGs, but let's not kid ourselves into thinking that NES era RPGs were vastly better than modern RPGs. If you want to say you prefer JRPGs to western, that makes sense to me, but I'll take most of the Persona 3 over any NES rpg.

I think it's silly to negate the impact nostalgia has on a personal top 5, or to treat it like a bad thing. Every list here has external factors that helped congel these lists together. For example Tekken 3 isn't the absolute best fighting game I've ever played objectively, but it is the game that me and my cousin spent hours playing together. That memory, along with the game being very good, and hitting me at the right time, resulted in it almost making my top 5.

People aren't robots.

maybe I am just shit with words...but I love older games, and my list has 2 older games on it. (and a top 100 would have probably 80)..my point was that nostalgia has a lot to do with my favorite games...I then asked how two games would be judge years from now, and that if you wanted to be fair....equal out the graphics so people would not judge the older game on looks..

I said make the old Mario look as good as Galaxy not because I wanted or needed it to be, but so that someone 100 years from now would give both games a chance...

I am blown away that what I posted you took as me saying graphics are important...but as someone who looks down at times at a game like Bioshock (talking about myself here) because I think so highly of System Shock..I wonder if I am a victim of that nostalgia, and since I fell in love with System Shock already, I am NEVER going to have a clear honest opinion of say BioShock vs System Shock 2...

I can make a list of over 100 games before the PS1 that I love....that I call some of the greatest games of all time..and if they came out today, exactly the same I would probably never give them the time of day, or if I did never fall in love with them.

I'm going to post my list, even with all the rigamarole.

My list changes time to time, but this particular one has been the same for a year or two:

1. Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (XBOX)
2. Chrono Trigger (SNES)
3. Mass Effect (XBOX360)
4. Final Fantasy III (SNES)
5. Katamari Damacy (PS2) Seriously, this game is awesome. I keep replaying it.

Re: Your top 5 games all-time? (any console or PC)

Just based on the amount of time I spent with them and the amount of fun I had with them (and friends, in a lot of cases), here's my top 5.

1. Goldeneye (N64) - brought true multiplayer into my life when four people could get together...it was a blast.
2. WWF No Mercy & Virtual Pro Wrestling 2 (N64) - I was a huge wrestling fan at the time and these were amazing games.
3. Grand Theft Auto 3 (PS2) - This is the game that finally got me to get a next gen system. I thought the fact you could really do whatever you wanted was amazing.
4. World Series Baseball (Genesis) - I spent countless hours with this game during summers as a giant baseball fan. The fact you could replicate a whole season and keep stats blew my mind.
5. Rock Band (360) - Parties at my place were never the same, and with fresh content coming all the time, the game never got old.

Honorable mention - Fallout 3, CoD 4, Resident Evil.

I'm sure I'm missing some, but I feel good with that list.

Same here. Our sports trio were those two and PGA Tour II. It's pretty much all we used our Genesis for.

No Evander Holyfield's Real Deal Boxing? That was my favorite game to play on my friends Genesis.

My friends and I played NHL 93 and RBI 93 (or was it 94?) for hours on end after school all the time back in the day. Those were the days.

Re: Your top 5 games all-time? (any console or PC)

Hard to choose and I could probably come up with a different list every time I thought about it; but here is a list of games/franchises that I've probably spent the most time on.

1 - Heroes of Might and Magic franchise on PC
2 - X-Wing/Tie Fighter franchise on PC
3 - Tetris on Nintendo Gameboy
4 - Halo franchise on Xbox
5 - Kingdom Rush on iOS
6 - Dungeon Master on Atari ST

Fallout 3 - 360

Skyrim - 360
