007 Legends - 10/16/12 - 360, PS3, PC
Out Tuesday, from Activision. Features levels from Goldfinger, On Her Majesty's Secret Service, Moonraker, Licence To Kill, Die Another Day, and at a later date as DLC, Skyfall.
I love Bond games, and this one looks pretty sweet. Anyone else picking it up? |
Re: 007 Legends - 10/16/12 - 360, PS3, PC
I fully intend to, but only when it's about $10 used in a few months.
I've liked even the 'bad' bond games recently. |
Re: 007 Legends - 10/16/12 - 360, PS3, PC
Do they change the Bond based on the movie the level is from? That is, Connery for Goldfinger, Lazenby for OHMSS, Moore for Moonraker, etc?
|
Re: 007 Legends - 10/16/12 - 360, PS3, PC
Nope, all Daniel Craig all the time.
|
Re: 007 Legends - 10/16/12 - 360, PS3, PC
Well, I've always wanted to relive Die Another Day with a different Bond. Because that movie is so great.

Re: 007 Legends - 10/16/12 - 360, PS3, PC
I'm a fan of the 007 games, but I can easily see this game dropping price really fast. I can wait.

Wonder what parts of Goldfinger, OHMSS, Moonraker they're doing.
|
Re: 007 Legends - 10/16/12 - 360, PS3, PC
I hope for OHMSS it's the sequence where you go to each girl's room in the allergy center and seduce her.

Just to note, this will also be on the Wii U, but nobody really cares about that.
Also you can get a used copy of Goldeneye Reloaded for $15 from GameFly. Their Used copies are usually pretty damn good. http://www.gamefly.com/Rent-GoldenEye-Reloaded/156195/ |

Re: 007 Legends - 10/16/12 - 360, PS3, PC
Damn, I wasn't really paying attention to this with all the games out or due out but this looks awesome.
edit-Then of course I read this: http://www.gamerfuzion.com/james-bon...egends-review/ |
Re: 007 Legends - 10/16/12 - 360, PS3, PC
Well, that was a brief, yet disappointing review. But the silver lining? 5 hour campaign = Redbox rental-friendly game. It's not showing up at any kiosks online yet, but hopefully it will later this week.

Re: 007 Legends - 10/16/12 - 360, PS3, PC
Yep, picked it up at Redbox this morning. Will play through it tonight, pick it up during the Holidays when it goes under $20.

Re: 007 Legends - 10/16/12 - 360, PS3, PC
IGN hates it. 4.5/10.
http://www.ign.com/articles/2012/10/...legends-review And it's only Daniel Craig's likeness. Someone else does his voice. |

All of the recent Bond games have gotten shitty reviews, but I've enjoyed all of them. So, whatever. I'll probably buy it during black friday sales.

Re: 007 Legends - 10/16/12 - 360, PS3, PC
Well, I believe I murdered half the population of China in the Goldfinger level.

Agreed. Nothing wrong with them at a discounted price. Don't expect Bioshock and you won't be disappointed.
I have loved the past couple of Bond games even thought that got pretty below average reviews. Bloodstone and Quantum of Solace were very fun. |
Re: 007 Legends - 10/16/12 - 360, PS3, PC
I was kind of thinking of buying this one too as I'm usually a sucker for the Bond games. I actually thought that Quantum of Solace and Bloodstone were fun games too. Goldeneye on the Wii I though sucked big time though. Never played the Reloaded version on XBOX or Playstation 3 so not sure if any improvements were made or not.

Re: 007 Legends - 10/16/12 - 360, PS3, PC
Rent it first. $2 for a night via Redbox. I just did and...it's not very good at all. Clunky, unrefined, glitchy. Terrible stealth mechanics. Guns-blazing might hurt your final score, but it seemed to be the most efficient way to play it. Only played Goldfinger but didn't like it at all.
I did encounter a hilarious glitch though : While checking Goldfinger's office I was scanning for fingerprints. Mid-scan, Pussy Galore stands right in front of me and I'm suddenly meticulously scanning her left breast with no way to exit until her field mammogram is complete, apparently. Don't know what I discovered there, but it was certainly worthy of a chuckle. |

I'm getting a copy to review, so I'll post back in a few days with my thoughts.

You'd think that with the potential of having all the great Bond action scenarios at their disposal they'd take the time to at least make the game playable. It's not hard to make a game playable for Bond fans. Really all we need is the music and attention to detail. The gameplay just needs to be serviceable. |
Re: 007 Legends - 10/16/12 - 360, PS3, PC
Still waiting for an Everything or Nothing HD remake. But they would probably use Craig

Not just by using Daniel Craig in the older movies -- I can live with that. There are so many anachronisms in the game. You're talking to people who are clearly from the Sixties and scanning them with your smartphone (and BTW : Smartphones are the least interesting Bond gadgets ever -- I remember as a kid being wowed by his magnetic watch or dart-shooting bracelet; nobody wants Bond relying exclusively on the same phone they already have in their pocket!). A telling moment : The game opens with the circle/gun barrel that we all know and love, but they don't play the Bond music! How could anyone screw something as simple as that up? Also blowing the "Bond, James Bond" line (as seen in the IGN clip above) is pretty telling for how they handled the license. Having faux Daniel Craig but real Judy Dench is a little distracting as well. At least the game opening credits were cool (but playing over an instrumental "Goldfinger" was a little disappointing). The game isn't terrible and it isn't unplayable --though it probably is unplayable as a stealth game. Going to this after Dishonored is pretty jarring because you know they could have done it so much better. It's just a mediocre game and a waste of a lot of good licenses. |

Yeah, what's up with them using Craig for everything. He was in the Goldeneye remake and now this. It is a contractual deal with him or something?

Re: 007 Legends - 10/16/12 - 360, PS3, PC
It's also weird all the retconning they do in these "flashback" missions. In the Licence to Kill missions you're getting calls/advice from M. Licence To Kill is the revenge Bond movie though, where Bond quits and goes rogue.
It's obvious this game was rushed because of all the MGM/Skyfall uncertainty. There was a way to do this story properly, but they obviously didn't have time. It's a serviceable game. But man, you murder SO MANY DUDES when you're storming Fort Knox in the Goldfinger level. |

Hated it in Max Payne, and hate it far more here. There's just something weird and incongruous about playing a character in his or her flashback sequence. How could they possibly die if it's a flashback? I know that in Sands of Time, the whole game is a flashback, but when something goes wrong, you could rewind with a "No, that's not what happened" comment from the Prince. Beyond that, I never saw it as a viable story mechanic for a video game. I know I should just get over it since it's just a stupid game, but that always bothered me. |
Re: 007 Legends - 10/16/12 - 360, PS3, PC
I fell for the trap of buying it. I thought to myself it's a Bond game how bad can it be? Really though it's just okay at best. It's got some fun moments in it but it wasn't really worth buying. It mostly disappoints me because like others have said a game like this feels like it had so much potential to be awesome and it really just feels like a rush job for Bond's 50th anniversary and the release of Skyfall.

Also - Casino Royale was a reboot, and Bond was just starting out as a double-0. It makes absolutely no sense how Craig's Bond can be remembering moments from Goldfinger, OHMSS, Moonraker, etc. So this Bond was married and lost his wife to Blofeld as well? It's just weirdly done. Now a 23-level game where each level covers a distinct Bond film and you can choose before you start one which of the 6 Bond actors you want as your likeness - that would have me buying it on release day. |
Re: 007 Legends - 10/16/12 - 360, PS3, PC
As much as it would be cool to see the respective Bonds from each era in the game I imagine they probably used Craig only because it would've been harder to get the rights to use the likenesses of all the former actors. Besides that I'm not sure how much of a difference it would have made really. It might have been slightly more cool but the game would still feel thrown together.

No Lazenby, no sale.

I just started the OHMSS portion. Fuck this mission, the one on the motor skis.
Also, the only thing legendary about this game is its load times. It takes fucking FOREVER to load. |
