Still waiting for an Everything or Nothing HD remake. But they would probably use Craig

Wow. You'd think that with the potential of having all the great Bond action scenarios at their disposal they'd take the time to at least make the game playable. It's not hard to make a game playable for Bond fans. Really all we need is the music and attention to detail. The gameplay just needs to be serviceable. But they get so much wrong. Not just by using Daniel Craig in the older movies -- I can live with that. There are so many anachronisms in the game. You're talking to people who are clearly from the Sixties and scanning them with your smartphone (and BTW : Smartphones are the least interesting Bond gadgets ever -- I remember as a kid being wowed by his magnetic watch or dart-shooting bracelet; nobody wants Bond relying exclusively on the same phone they already have in their pocket!). A telling moment : The game opens with the circle/gun barrel that we all know and love, but they don't play the Bond music! How could anyone screw something as simple as that up? Also blowing the "Bond, James Bond" line (as seen in the IGN clip above) is pretty telling for how they handled the license. Having faux Daniel Craig but real Judy Dench is a little distracting as well. At least the game opening credits were cool (but playing over an instrumental "Goldfinger" was a little disappointing). The game isn't terrible and it isn't unplayable --though it probably is unplayable as a stealth game. Going to this after Dishonored is pretty jarring because you know they could have done it so much better. It's just a mediocre game and a waste of a lot of good licenses. |

Yeah, what's up with them using Craig for everything. He was in the Goldeneye remake and now this. It is a contractual deal with him or something?

It's also weird all the retconning they do in these "flashback" missions. In the Licence to Kill missions you're getting calls/advice from M. Licence To Kill is the revenge Bond movie though, where Bond quits and goes rogue.
It's obvious this game was rushed because of all the MGM/Skyfall uncertainty. There was a way to do this story properly, but they obviously didn't have time. It's a serviceable game. But man, you murder SO MANY DUDES when you're storming Fort Knox in the Goldfinger level. |

Hated it in Max Payne, and hate it far more here. There's just something weird and incongruous about playing a character in his or her flashback sequence. How could they possibly die if it's a flashback? I know that in Sands of Time, the whole game is a flashback, but when something goes wrong, you could rewind with a "No, that's not what happened" comment from the Prince. Beyond that, I never saw it as a viable story mechanic for a video game. I know I should just get over it since it's just a stupid game, but that always bothered me. |
Re: 007 Legends - 10/16/12 - 360, PS3, PC
I fell for the trap of buying it. I thought to myself it's a Bond game how bad can it be? Really though it's just okay at best. It's got some fun moments in it but it wasn't really worth buying. It mostly disappoints me because like others have said a game like this feels like it had so much potential to be awesome and it really just feels like a rush job for Bond's 50th anniversary and the release of Skyfall.

Also - Casino Royale was a reboot, and Bond was just starting out as a double-0. It makes absolutely no sense how Craig's Bond can be remembering moments from Goldfinger, OHMSS, Moonraker, etc. So this Bond was married and lost his wife to Blofeld as well? It's just weirdly done. Now a 23-level game where each level covers a distinct Bond film and you can choose before you start one which of the 6 Bond actors you want as your likeness - that would have me buying it on release day. |
Re: 007 Legends - 10/16/12 - 360, PS3, PC
As much as it would be cool to see the respective Bonds from each era in the game I imagine they probably used Craig only because it would've been harder to get the rights to use the likenesses of all the former actors. Besides that I'm not sure how much of a difference it would have made really. It might have been slightly more cool but the game would still feel thrown together.

I just started the OHMSS portion. Fuck this mission, the one on the motor skis.
Also, the only thing legendary about this game is its load times. It takes fucking FOREVER to load. |

Thanks for the heads up, but it's gone already. And after I received a terrible Halo Anniversary disc from GameFly, I decided to only ever buy PS3 discs from them (much more scratch resistant).

Re: 007 Legends - 10/16/12 - 360, PS3, PC
Wrapped this up today along with the whole series. Call of Bond, The stealth was fucking the worst I've plated from series. Easily spotted and enemies taking too many silent shots to go down. The most fun I had on this was doing the challenges for weapons, attachments & perks. The time trials are bullshit.
I hope the IO Interactive Project 007 comes to fruition and is a great game. |
Re: 007 Legends - 10/16/12 - 360, PS3, PC
I am so curious : did you rent all these Bond games or do you have a collection? I was just floored that you played then all. I had forgotten that most existed, besides Goldeneye.

Re: 007 Legends - 10/16/12 - 360, PS3, PC
I had like half of them, then I thought one day all would be backward compatible back when MS made the announcement. So I bought the rest off ebay. :( no BC

Re: 007 Legends - 10/16/12 - 360, PS3, PC
You played them all on a 360?
|
Re: 007 Legends - 10/16/12 - 360, PS3, PC
The OG Xbox ones on OG Xbox, Xbox 360 ones on Xbox 360.
And I'm real glad I bought them all since they're not available digitally any more. |
Re: 007 Legends - 10/16/12 - 360, PS3, PC
I actually have a few of the 007 games on 360 too. Blood Stone, Quantum of Solace, and this one.
I’ve kind of enjoyed reading thoughts on the Bond games. A little nostalgia kick. Almost makes me want to play them again. I remember 007 Legends irritating me and I think I tossed in the towel pretty early with it. |
