Have you never played a SimCity game before? Disasters and even the UFOs are nothing new. They have been there since the beginning. The SNES version of the original SimCity even had a disaster where Bowser rampages the city like Godzilla.

You can however turn disasters off if you so choose. At least you could in previous games, but it will most likely be an option in this game as well.

The whole superhero/villain thing is new though, and that does look a bit out of place.

Yeah I am in. I've played all the other iterations before. Something about SimCity makes me feel tingly inside.

Yeah, I played the hell the out of one of the earlier games. It's not so much disaster stuff it's just that I hope the game is more of the first video and less like the 2nd.

Any good deals out there? I probably should of ordered it from GMG when they allowed that 30% off coupon to be used on it.

It's not about the fact that the game requires an internet connection. It's about the fact that EA could pull the plug on the servers at any given moment making the game worthless and unplayable. EA has been pulling the plug on numerous games' servers over the past few months and if the last few rounds are any indication, this game will have its server killed within five years. If not less. In a "single player" game like this, a connection to the internet shouldn't be mandatory or required.

Go ahead and give your money to EA. I'll give mine to a developer who actually deserves it for treating their consumer base with an ounce of respect.

I never play multiplayer. I don't care about leaderboards. I will not pay for any PC game that requires a constant online connection or an account with a Steam-like service. If all PC games move in this direction, then I will buy none of them.

Steam pretty much saved the PC gaming industry so I have no qualms against them (plus you can backup your games and play them offline). Publisher DRM is obnoxious as hell though.

Out of curiosity, what games has EA pulled the plug on making it worthless and unplayable? I know there's a few games that they took servers down that are still fully playable.

Plus there's always a way for them to update and remove DRM.

People freaked out about Diablo requiring an internet connection. I can understand the complaints, but I think they're a little overblown.

Re: SimCity (2013) (PC/Mac)

I almost never go back to games after a year or so of initially playing them, so if they shut down the servers after a few years, it doesn't really bother me.

Everyone's welcome to their opinions, and voting with your dollars makes sense, but the whole DRM/online connection thing is just not an issue for me.

Anyway, this and Bioshock Infinite are pretty much the only games slated for the first half of 2013 that I'm really interested in.

I play multiplayer on some games. But otherwise, Ditto. I haven't bought a PC game in 2 years except for GOG and kicking in on the Project Eternity kickstarter. Even Civ 5, and I love me some Civ. That turned out wise though (IMO Civ 4 is more my cup of tea...Civ 5 has a ways to go from what I've read).

I'm reluctantly willing to deal with Steam for rental pricing (sub $10) as the least objectionable DRM service. I haven't since I bought Team Fortress 2 for $10 a couple of years back, though.

Yeah, Civ 5 was a massive disappointment. I was bored with it within a week and went back to playing Civ 4. I have played Civ 4 for well over a thousand hours total and never gotten bored with it.

I just don't have faith that this will be that good. It seems so dumbed down. I definitely won't pre-order, this seems like great Steam Sale fodder for later on.

$47 at GMG right now. Good enough for me.

Anyway, I think this game looks awesome, and I can't wait to play it.
Yeah but unless they patch the game to no longer require constant online connection, the moment they pull the plug on the servers, you're stuck with a shiney coaster.

Yeah, still not a real issue for me, though. Knowing my gaming habits, by the time they do that, I'll have stopped playing it anyway. I don't tend to play anything for more than a few months or a year at the most.

However, for those who stick with one particular games for years at a time or revisit a lot of old games, I can see why it would be a sticking point.

Re: SimCity (2013) (PC/Mac)

Am I reading that right? You need a constant internet connection with EA servers to play?

There's no way to play this offline ?

Nope, sucks, but it was really completely designed with online play in mind. They still could of did an offline only mode, and maybe they will eventually.

Yep. Constant Internet Connection. It's lame, hopefully people will complain enough and have them fix that (I travel a lot and want to play my games on airplanes without forking over $8 for unstable wifi).

I wonder if you can choose who gets the cities that will surround yours. It would be cool to have them all belong to friends that way you don't get fucked.
