This. I might be interested but i need to know what's included, how it plays. It would not be a jump in and go for broke scenario.

It'll need more than 20 games for me to buy it... but if I play it twice, it'll have been used 1 more time than my Vita.

Yes, but that was because the system used cartridges that were designed for arcade systems and could deliver authentic arcade graphics and sounds. I think the Neo Geo was a system that was extremely popular in Japan, but did nothing when it hit North America (kind of like the Turbo-Graphx).

I like these sorts of things, but I don't see myself (or many others) spending $120 on the handheld or $200 on the entire package. The same basic concept could have been accomplished with a Android or iOS app at a fraction of the price.

Games were usually $200 - $300, it was insane.

Alright, for those who don't know the pictures, here is what I believe the games to be (no official list on the site, so I'm guessing):

Alpha Mission 2
Art of Fighting
Fatal Fury Special
Baseball Stars 2
Last Resort
Super Sidekicks
King of Fighters '95
Cyberlip
???? (Edit - Real Bout - Fatal Fury Special per Maxflier)
King of the Monsters
Mutation Nation
Samurai Showdown II
World Heroes Perfect
Fatal Fury
League Bowling
NAM 1975
Magician Lord
Puzzled
Metal Slug
3 Count Bout

Yep, the ROM required was so much higher. I don't think the Neo Geo was meant to be a mass-market system, which would be designed with cost efficiency in mind. Although, I think the great SNES port of Street Fighter II stole some of their thunder.

This looks interesting, but I don't know about that circular control thing on the portable. Is it going to click like the NG Pocket? I think I'd rather have a D-pad.

Also, I noticed that all of the images show the games stretched to widescreen. That can be disabled, right? I guess they couldn't even get 4:3 screens from a supplier now, but even then I don't want the games stretched.

Re: Neo-Geo X (December 6)

Does this have an expansion slot for more games to be added? That would make it worth the purchase.

Nice...if I remember correctly, I have a cd with all of the roms for NeoGeo on it around here somewhere. Now if the cd-r hasn't corrupted from age is another question. I guess I'll dig it out, but if I have that....this system might be pretty awesome on my plasma. (and I've missed Baseball Stars, 3 Count Bout and Magician Lord among others)

The original Baseball Stars was AWESOME, but I have never played part 2. Was it just as good?

For a pick up and play baseball game, absolo freaking lutely. Good looking graphics, great playability. One of the last great baseball games before realism shattered everything.

Dunno for sure, but there is hope if the darn thing takes an SD card. Course that SD Card could be just for save states, but here is hoping.

Seems legit, but with the Wii U coming I'm not sure I'm going have the cash for this...

Yep. Growing up I remember a bunch of kids having a Genesis, a bunch having SNES, some having both, but you knew a kid was rich when they had a Neo Geo. $649 at launch.

Interestingly enough, the Neo Geo console had a lifespan longer than both of the other consoles.

I'm guessing that if it's able to play games not on the system itself, they would probably be special protected versions instead of the rips you downloaded somewhere.

Probably so...but we have seen odder things. Just depends on how powerful the system and how free they want to make things (or rather what length they want to go to for copy protection). I'm guessing you are right, but we might get surprised.
