Delayed until 2015. The handful of games I backed all getting delayed makes me glad I stopped backing random projects after the first few big named ones. Although delaying this might be nice with Wasteland 2 just coming out and another RPG like Dragon Age coming out next month anyway. |
re: Pillars of Eternity
Evidently this is being delayed for the same reason Wasteland 2 was: to fix the combat. A lot of complaints were that it was too hectic and difficult to tell what was going on.
I tried the beta, and I definitely got a Baldur's Gate vibe, but I didn't get very far as I didn't want to spoil anything. I did do one battle, and it did seem like everything happened really fast. There was a ton of combat text in the log which was pretty overwhelming. |

re: Pillars of Eternity
Game went gold today and will be released, as mentioned above, on the 26th.
Hopefully the Kickstarter boxed copy is sent out soon. Looking forward to seeing everything that comes in the package. |
re: Pillars of Eternity
Can't wait to play this! Backed this on Kickstarter and have been itching to play a good Baldur's Gate style game!

re: Pillars of Eternity
Can a mod rename this thread to reflect the name of the game? It's only been a few years now since it got a name...

re: Pillars of Eternity
RPS: It’s a triumph. A wonderful, enormous and spellbinding RPG, gloriously created in the image of BioWare’s Infinity classics, but distinctly its own. A classic in every sense. PC Gamer: This is a big, fat, deep adventure that lets you carve your own unique path through a fantasy world that’s been brilliantly brought to life with rich, evocative writing. It’s a game steeped in a bygone era of computer RPG design, but somehow it doesn’t feel archaic. Obsidian have always been bound to other peoples’ worlds—Fallout, Dungeons & Dragons, Star Wars, South Park—but in creating their own from scratch, they’ve made not only their best game to date, but one of the best RPGs on PC. Escapist: Bottom Line: It's the best new, isometric RPG to come out in years. Recommendation: While Pillars of Eternity is certainly banking on a nostalgic fan base, it's still an excellent RPG in its own right. It's a game rich with player agency, giving you tons of control to craft your story or explore different solutions to the presented problems. You know, actual roleplaying not simply a game with a leveling and stat system stapled on. PCGamesN Obsidian had a daunting task before them: to make a spiritual successor to a series of games that are inextricably tangled up in nostalgia, over a decade after the height of those games’ popularity. This is not the Baldur’s Gate of 2015, it’s Baldur’s Gate, Planescape: Torment, Icewind Dale, the best parts of the lot of them wrapped up in something new and brilliant. And before you venture forth, don’t forget to gather your party. |
re: Pillars of Eternity
Sounds fun. It's been ages since I've played an old-school RPG like this.

Their website is being hammered at the moment. Can't login to get my key. Lame.

Re: Pillars of Eternity
Hey, I had kinda forgotten about this. I just got a new computer last weekend, so I'm looking forward to trying this out. Have no idea how to get my copy. Guess the info is on the Kickstarter site?

Re: Pillars of Eternity
If I remember correctly, you would have needed to create an account on the Pillars of Eternity website and claim your pledge, or something like that. From there you can get your key.
https://eternity.obsidian.net/login The login servers seem to be down though. |
Re: Pillars of Eternity
Played an hour or two so far. So far, I'm enjoying it a lot.

Re: Pillars of Eternity
It took a while, but I was able to log in and get my Steam key. It looks to be a very good game and at $20, turned out to be a Hell of a good deal as well. I'm downloading it now. Thank you superdeluxe for bringing this game to my attention.

Re: Pillars of Eternity

Re: Pillars of Eternity
Bump to mention that there is a "Kickstarter" type fund-raiser on Fig.co for Pillars of Eternity II. $29 for a digital copy of the game. 8 days left.
