It's funny now that I look back on it -- even though it's only been less than a week, that hunchbacked Queen was two or three generations ago. She's dead and burried. My current king conquered Scotland (carrying on the fine work of his father), then cracked some heads internally -- I had a few dukes who were getting too big for their britches, so I wound up throwing them in jail, stripping them of their titles, and sending them into exile and/or executing them. It got me very rich and enabled me to spread the titles out so no one vassal has too much power.
Yeah, I did figure that out. It makes perfect sense, now that I think about it -- what's the point of being vassal to the King of England if he's not going to stand up and defend your county when the King of Ireland and Scotland comes riding in with a manufactured claim and a massive army. My current king's son/heir actually has a claim to England, so I'm probably going to just go for broke and see if I can take over the whole country. England is somewhat fractured right now with some upstart dukes playing out their own version of the War of the Roses, so I'm hoping to take advantage of that chaos to crush everyone under my thumb. Of course, with my luck, once I put Junior on the throne of England, he'll fuck things up and wind up getting himself killed before I can pass on Ireland and Scotland to him. I've had that happen a few times -- I get my heir into a promising marriage, then either he dies before he becomes my PC or his wife dies before she can give him a kid. If your son dies, then you would become ruler of England I believe (Check the succession laws). Yes I have killed my own children to further my aims (Married the queen of denmark, we had a son (My heirs were already all grown), I killed the queen, and then my Son, then I got the kKingdom of Denmark, and then transfered to my heir. Ruthless I know. lol |
Re: Crusader Kings II
Not a bad idea. My current character is a horny old goat with at least half a dozen kids, so if I kill the current heir, I got more where he came from. I just don't remember whether Junior has kids of his own who would be his heirs, or if his titles would pass back to me upon his death. Definitely something to check next time I fire up the game.

Does your 2nd3rd son have better stats? |
Re: Crusader Kings II
I've got Gavelkind succession. I've played through my PC's death about 3 times tonight, and every time, the realm just falls apart when he goes. I'm going to keep reloading until I get it right!

Gavelkind while it gives you more Demnse size, also gives you problems, because all your heirs get some titles..which can lead to succession issues/pretender issues. |
Re: Crusader Kings II
In my first 2 generations I'd amassed control of 4 duchies, but thanks to Gavelkind succession when my second character died I lost all but 1 (for some reason my gay character still managed to produce 5 sons and 1 daughter).

Re: Crusader Kings II
I'm trying to work my way now to primogenture, but only being able to increase crown authority once per generation (and having to meet lots of specific requirements to do so) has made that a slow process. I've got the HRE changed to seniority in the meantime, although this means that my son isn't set to inherit anything.

Maybe you offset your homosexuality by getting a wife that was lustful or a hedonist? |

Re: Crusader Kings II
The wife was definitely lustful which did help to balance out the homosexuality.
And I thought the 2 duchies thing was only a rule for kings or emperors (which I am now, but was not at the time)? |

Re: Crusader Kings II
I might have already mentioned it, but I think starting out as Duke of Aquitaine is one of the better starting spots if you would want more than just a county..but still work towards to a kingdom. You are the Duke over 3 other duchies, Gascgone, Poituou and Aquitaine, you control a good 25 percent of France, Plus you have claims against 2 countines in Toulouse.
Plus you can marry Matilda of Tuscony, and you are on your way to having a very powerful nation. |

Re: Crusader Kings II
I'm bumping this because the amount of wonderful mods out there.
Prince and the Thane Mode makes Crusader Kings 2 really awesome..new events/new skill sets. Also since last Summer Elder Kings and Game of Thrones are awesome mods, for those that are fans of those two worlds. |
Re: Crusader Kings II
Anybody still playing this? I had drifted away from it but fired it back up last week and I'm enjoying it. New DLC just came out that expands the map eastward to India (I haven't picked up the new DLC yet, but the map expansion happens in vanilla as part of a patch).
Also, the game and most of its DLC are on sale at Steam through March 28. The only thing not on sale (I think) is the brand new DLC (Rajas of India) and the DLC before (Sons of Abraham). But I picked up the first four DLCs dirt cheap (the Muslim one, the Byzantine one, the Norse one, and the Venice one). |
