Re: Need for Speed: Most Wanted is Burnout Paradise 2

I put it in last night and played for about 1.5 hours in single player. I also think it is a bit more difficult than Burnout Paradise was from the beginning. I was just driving around trying to get familiar with the map and finding shortcuts. I must have found about a dozen cars just doing this but I gotta say I prefer the Burnout method of earning cars a bit better. That way the difficulty and speed of the cars would grow as you went through the game is better to me than finding a Camaro and jumping in to a supercar next.

I like it though and I'll probably try multiplayer this weekend after I'm more comfortable with the map. If any PS players want to get together you can add me with PSN name ChipMac64.

I bought it on Tuesday and will trade it in this weekend. The game is just a huge disappointment for me.

NFS: MW did this... But in an arcade-y way. Ie buy these tires, get x% handling improvement.

I think the online is an absolute dumpster fire.

And some of the single player races are unnecessarily hard due to rubberbanding.

I just want to know if this controls more like Burnout Paradise or Hot Pursuit.

I agree. I think it was the 2nd race of the game, only 3 laps. I got 2nd on my first try (lost by maybe a car length), redid the race and beat my time by FIFTEEN SECONDS, still got 2nd by about a car length. I stopped playing after about the 6th race. I LOVED the first most wanted, beat it pretty easily (even thought the cops were extremely frustrating in the later levels), but this one just seems unfair. I'll try it again this weekend, but I'm pretty disappointed with this and have been waiting for it for a long time.

Funny because that is more or less what happened to me with a major time difference but still got second. After I finally got first, felt more cheated than accomplished.

I played like 15 minutes of this yesterday. Doesn't seem as fun as HP but not writing it off yet.

Re: Need for Speed: Most Wanted is Burnout Paradise 2

The controls are the most unforgiving piece of shit I've experienced in a racing game. I literally struggle to NOT hit a wall or lamp post or building going anything more than 70MPH. The cars over-correct way too much and there is no option to adjust the sensitivity of the controller. I've never been more pissed playing a game in such a short amount of time that I'm half-tempted to write the developers. There is no way anybody can think the controls are tight and add a sense of fun to this game... even lining up a straight shot to do a jump thru a sign was a hassle.

Whoever mentioned "rubber banding" is dead on. I actually was leading a race by maybe two lengths and then crashed into a wall (shocking)... I proceeded down the wrong path and missed a checkpoint so I turned around, went back thru the correct check point and probably wasted 30s doing this... but WAIT... There is my opponent about 100 feet ahead of me!!?? He must of done the exact same thing as me. Fucking stupid.

I want to love this game so much as I just couldn't get enough of the first NFS... and I'll give this game a fair shot but I can't imagine sticking with it very long with Halo 4 and BOII coming out in the next few weeks.

I never played HP. The only three racing games I have are Burnout:Paradise, Gran Turismo 5, and NFS:MW. Obviously Gran Turismo is a completely different type of game, but Burnout and Most Wanted feel EXACTLY the same to me driving/handling/gameplay wise. The only major difference being the addition of cops. Burnout had the same rubber banding AI as well. MW just feels more difficult because the you're not just racing, you're racing while cops are constantly smashing into you and setting up hazards in the road in front of you. It's WAY more frustrating for sure.

I think the multiplayer could be fun with a group of friends that actually talked and tried to complete the challenges together. I agree that jumping in with randoms is just a total cluster fuck. But that can be said about a lot of games.

I was prepped to spend some time with this tonight. Now I might just focus on Borderlands 2 and hold off until I'm zen.

I had Burnout when it first came out... maybe not on launch day, but definitely before they added any DLC. I always thought it was great. The multiplayer was just as retarded though (if jumping in with randoms).

I'm not sure why Most Wanted is getting so much hate. Like I said, driving wise, it's essentially Burnout. Open world, smashing through gates and billboards, takedowns, etc. The only thing that's missing that makes this NOT Burnout is the Road Rage events where you cause as much damage as possible (but this is technically a NFS game, so I can see why that stuff was left out).

My ONLY gripe with MW is that the races are more frustrating. It's not a gamebreaker for me though. I thought Burnout was super easy, and this one is definitely not. At least not right off the bat. I don't really recall losing that many races in Burnout, and if I did, it definitely wasn't more than once or twice.

IMO, the rubber-banding is almost a necessity in this game. Here's why: All the cars are essentially available from the start. The "object" of the single player campaign is to work you're way up the Most Wanted list. It's achieved by taking down racers/cars of increasing difficulty. But if you find one of the high performance "super cars" right off the bat, the first few races would just end up being ridiculously easy... unless the AI was able to compensate somehow. The #10 Most Wanted car is some kind of mediocre Alfa Romeo. If I'm in a Dodge Viper or Corvette, that race shouldn't even be close. It's a fine line between making it TOO easy and making it somewhat challenging so you're not just blowing through the events in a couple hours.

I played for about an hour last night, and I don't get the hate either. It's a prettier Burnout Paradise with some cop stuff thrown in. I hope to try out the multiplayer this weekend, since I've heard good things about it.

I'd love the game if I had more control over the car. I BARELY touch the left stick and I'm into the wall.

As a huge Burnout nerd who was highly ranked in Revenge, I can promise you that Burnout and MW are not exactly the same. Download the Burnout demos...they are similar but Burnout handles more arcadish.

I own Burnout: Paradise. Played it plenty, believe me.

As far as I know, Burnout Revenge is not even on PS3. Regardless, pretty much all the specific comparisons being made here are between Burnout: Paradise and Most Wanted. Even the thread title is comparing the two. The control/feel is exactly the same between Paradise and Most Wanted, IMO. I can't speak for any of the other Burnout titles.

I apologize for the confusion, but anytime I say "Burnout", I specifically mean "Burnout: Paradise".

Re: Need for Speed: Most Wanted is Burnout Paradise 2

After putting some time into it, I'm starting to figure out the tricks to winning races and evading cops. This game is officially AWESOME in my opinion. I love it.

For anyone having trouble, it helps significantly if you just focus on using one car at a time. At first I was just jumping in every car I could find and trying the different races for each, but I found myself crashing a ton, and the cops were kicking my ass in the "most wanted" events. Basically it was kind of overwhelming at first because there's so many cars, and they all have unique races. The menu system is a little tricky at first, and there's really no instructions to explain it. I was basically just driving around like an idiot.

I decided to just pick one car and stick with it. I went with the Porsche Carrera, which is what the game starts you out with. None of the races for that car are too difficult. It's a fast car, but not insanely fast, so it's not too difficult to keep under control. Whatever car you like, the first thing you should do is try to get gold in the five races and get it fully upgraded. Even if you only finish second in a race, you may unlock a mod that gives you just enough of a boost to get gold the next time. Once you unlock mods, they all have specific challenges that unlock "Pro" versions which make the mod even better. Once I started unlocking upgrades for the Porsche I was consistently winning races in 1 or 2 tries. After I got the Porsche fully upgraded, I moved onto a different car and it was inifintely easier because I understood what the hell I needed to do to win.

Plus, if you get at least silver in the five races for a specific car, you unlock re-inflate tires for that car. Those tires pretty much make the cops a non-factor in the most wanted events.

I never played HP so I don't know what that's like. I'll just say this, I played for a good majority of the day yesterday and it honestly felt like I was playing an extension of Burnout: Paradise. Totally forgot it was NFS.

Re: Need for Speed: Most Wanted is Burnout Paradise 2

Just got the game last night and immediately went online. I love that they adjusted the challenges so that if you meet at a specific location and some doofus is messing around, he'll automatically be transported after a certain time. Also everyone doesn't have to participate to complete the challenges. The more you do participate, the more you are rewarded.

It's got everything I liked about Paradise, Billboards, gates, speedtraps. Now how do you find where all the ones you are missin? In Burnout it told you how many you've found in each area. This game I can't find any sort of info. Anyone know? Am I missing a screen buried in the menu somewhere?
