I love the Show but I've elected to not use the stick controls for pitching and hitting. I still use the meter for pitching and the X button to swing. It's hard enough that way.

Yep, meter pitching and X button swing for me as well. Not interested in the newfangled controls.

A game doesn't need the dross and limitations of a TV broadcast. Apparently the focus on rabid TV watchers hasn't helped this franchise's profitability.
Tried the Wii. Didn't like it.

I don't know why your busting the balls of sports games realism. Most Sports games have been like that for well over 20 years going back to the Genesis and SNES days. Name one sports game, specifically baseball because this is a baseball game thread, that fits the criteria of what you consider fun.
Honestly, this discussion is nonsense mainly because your commenting in an MLB sports game thread and you don't even like MLB. Like I just said a few posts ago, you should play the Mario sports games then. The only complaint which I stated specifically regarding the MLB 2K series for baseball is the controls are a little too complex. But other than that, I love the real players, teams and licenses.
If you have something else to comment on that can help me understand your thinking better, then great. Otherwise, I don't have anything else to add.

Comparing liking GTA to a liking of criminals is off the wall as it is. If you don't like sports, then you don't like playing them, which negates the purpose of sitting on your behind and pretending you're playing them.
What a weird way to troll.

I think I get what he wants. For example, I like Hot Shots Golf, because the game has a fun, whimsical presentation that isn't in the Tiger Woods PGA game. I don't play golf or follow real golfers, so I don't care that it doesn't have real players and courses. What he wants is something like Baseball Stars on the NES and Neo Geo (even though the "American Dreams" had names like Babe and Hank).
Unfortunately for him though, there is very little demand for this sort of thing. Everything is either as realistic as possible, or very arcadey and simplified (like Wii Sports). He wants something in between, I think.

Have you tried MLB Power Pros 2008?
Games only take about 20 minutes and base stealing is just a couple button presses. It's on PS2 and Wii, you use a Gamecube or Classic controller for the Wii version.

TV sports broadcasting is not reality. It is a limited and packaged version of reality. Slavishly aping the TV broadcast limits what the video game can be.

The 2K baseball series is fucking embarrassing. How are their NBA games so good, while their MLB games are a disaster?

I really miss the days of High Heat Baseball. The Show is very good, but it's also very difficult (at least for me). To The Show's credit, I give their team props for never failing to try and make the game better despite having no competition out there. That said, I wish there was some competition on the Xbox platform.

In many of the stories I've read, the general consensus is that EA, and any other game company that would have been interested in putting out a new baseball game are not interested in starting the franchise at the tail end of this console cycle.
It makes a lot of sense if that's the case. As much as I'd love to see a new MVP, I wouldn't want them pulling the old engine out and working from there. It'd be better if they built a new engine that could possibly take the baseball game to the next level.
There's even some that believe it was MLB themselves that convinced 2K to put out a game this year, in order to fill in the gap.

Well if MLB forced them to, you know it's gonna be good

The 2k baseball games are bad if you put them next to The Show, but it's not complete crap fest. I usually play both every baseball season.
I'm surprised there's no EA offering this year.

You don't like sports, yet your chiming in on an MLB Sports game thread? As McFly just said, these types of sports games with real players, teams are obviously not meant for someone like you.
