Re: Kickstarter: shadowrun returns
Apparently it is now a run-off according to the latest update between Berlin and Hong Kong because the difference between the 2 was less than 1% (which is kinda crazy when you think about it).
Yeah, I think I have to revert back to Hong Kong then.

This was mentioned in the Ultimate Kickstarter thread, but in case any don't read that...
A Kickstarter for a Shadowrun Online game is currently running, with only 7 days left:

I'm not sure, I was to busy watching the video. I'm guessing maybe next year? I don't think they are going to hit their original target.

That does look quite good. I never did back this one as I had no prior experience with Shadowrun, but it looks like something I'll pick up when it releases.

Re: Kickstarter: shadowrun returns
I've been keeping up with the Kickstarters, and this game is looking super awesome, seriously (I'm in for like $125). What's better is that we get the editor to make our own adventures. I know that I am going to try and create something and maybe push the sucker to its limit.
In other news, I'm also trying to write a piece of fan fiction (and hopefully have it morph into something else), but unfortunately I've written myself into a couple of holes and trying to figure my way out . It will certainly be a Shadowrun second half of this year.

Steam Keys are being sent out to backers ahead of the release of the game on July 25th.
Everything I have seen so far makes me feel the game will be a success, but this will be game 2 of my backed projects to come out.

Re: Kickstarter: shadowrun returns
Oddly enough, this is the first game I backed, and the first one that is coming out, ahead of Shadowrun Online, the TwoGuys SpaceVenture, Road Redemption and Tug. I really could care less about Steam Keys as I have a boxed copy coming but it probably won't be there until the first or second week of August. But I am hugely excited about the game. Should be a lot of fun and it will give me something to play on my PC for a change. Bring it!

The fact that there is no loot system really turns me off from being excited with this game. I'll probably pick it up eventually when it's on sale.

Wow, I didn't know that. Pretty weak. I'm definitely just going to hold off.
They mention they might add in a loot system in the future, although I can't see how doable that would be without making them have to basically go through the entire game to add it.

Yeah, when I learned about no loot and checkpoint-only saves, my interest dropped considerably. I'll likely wait for reviews.

Got my steam keys today (3 of them in fact at my pledge level, lawls). It's kinda funny because I have never even messed with Steam before. I'll probably just wait for the DRM free stuff as well as my physicals . And I know the idea of no loot or saves only at checkpoints...but my major excitement comes from it just being Shadowrun and I get to write my own freaking adventures. That's all I need, seriously. (As long as I can figure out the editor)

Apparently with backers created campaigns, there is loot, but instead of it dropping on the ground to be picked up diablo style, it is deposited into your inventory.
This Mission/Campaign editor has great potential for user created content.

Eurogamer review. 8/10
http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/20...returns-review
For those who just want to relive the isometric action of the SNES and Megadrive days, Shadowrun Returns easily delivers. It's not the deepest or most flexible game of its type, but there's a lot to be said for simple ideas realised intuitively. Add in some excellent writing and, judged purely as a standalone game, it's an unambiguous success.
There's more to Shadowrun Returns though. Much more. And it won't be until the community gets its hands on the editor, starts remixing the current material and generating its own, that the game will really begin to blossom. When it does, the patience of the hardcore will be well rewarded.

I am kind of bummed that I let the Kickstarter campaign expire. I forgot to mark it to watch and pledge during the last day. I'll pick it up when released most likely.

Re: Kickstarter: shadowrun returns
It sounds like the framework is great, but the actual game so far is quite lackluster. I'll wait this one out. I'm sure the user generated content will make it more interesting.
edit: Wow, this sounds downright awful. Hopefully they change this at some point:
edit: Wow, this sounds downright awful. Hopefully they change this at some point:
The lack of healing options shines a particularly unforgiving light on Shadowrun Returns' save system. During combat sequences — which can often stretch for as long as 15-20 minutes of turn-based life or death — it's game over if your character goes down, which throws you back to the last autosave. There's no manual saving in Shadowrun Returns anywhere in the game, whether you're in combat or back home. More than once I spent twenty or thirty minutes between missions tweaking my character, talking to NPCs gathering information and generally preparing myself for the next step only to realize that I couldn't save. It's a weird "screw you" to the idea of experimentation in almost every area of the game, because experimenting could cost you half an hour or more of time as you try to roll back the changes you made. It's a bizarre, borderline-unacceptable omission in 2013.

Re: Kickstarter: shadowrun returns
Welp, I fully plan to be messing with the editor and since it does save (but apparently not as much as it should), I will certainly try extra hard to implement a system where the saves are much more timely. There is bound to be a way. I think this game will really blossom based on the user-created content and that's where I plan to spend most of my time.
