Re: Halo 4

We have to support this game anyway necessary ;)

Halo is a $3 Billion Franchise, Halo 4 the Most Expensive Game in Microsoft's History

Microsoft has been chucking around some big numbers in relation to the Halo series and it’s upcoming latest iteration, Halo 4.

According to the Redmond tech giant, Halo 4 is the most expensive game Microsoft has ever produced and Halo itself is a whopping $3 billion franchise.

Microsoft Studios’ Phil Spencer described Halo 4 as the “most important entertainment product in the company” and when pushed on whether it was the most expensive, responded, “Absolutely. Nothing’s even close.”

Spencer didn’t say exactly how much the game has cost to make, but it has been estimated that Master Chief’s return has cost the company a cool $60 million. It’s worth noting that a big chunk of that will be Marketing costs.

Halo 3 is the series’ fastest-selling game, racking up a ridiculous $300 million global sales in just one week. If Halo 4 can get anyway near that, Microsoft’s investment should be safe.

Yeah, and that is one of the ridiculous costs they'll use to justify next gen's inevitable price increase. Somehow they've got to pay for that David Fincher 2.5 minute ad that doesn't actually show any gameplay.

Re: Halo 4

Man, I know it's rare and therefor valuable, but I'm having serious thoughts of cancelling my $85 Newegg preorder of the LE. There just doesn't look like $40 worth of content there for me. I love steelbooks and have several for Halo games, but hell, Reach LE didn't come with one anyway. There's the season pass which will be 2000 points, but that's really $20 for me, not $25 (and that's not even counting the inevitable sale price). Then there's the packaging and a movie download. I don't know. I think I might be better off with a Best Buy pre-order, the $20 RZ certificates, the bonus armor, and the eventual, likely price match from some store in the next 60 days. Not sure yet, but that's how I'm leaning.

Never read this site, but they love it:

Wrap Up:

Halo 4 nails the wonder and awe that defined the series to begin with

In that way, Halo 4 is most like the original Halo, where the novelty and wonder of exploring something really alien and different is a key factor. While Halo 4 continues the series' tradition of iteration on its own design more successfully than any one of its predecessors, that sense of awe, of discovery, has been light since the first game, and I didn't realize how much I missed it until I played Halo 4. Halo is in new hands with 343i, but the studio nailed exactly why the series became a genre-defining franchise. And it's exciting to think about where it goes from here.
Can you still preorder at BB and get the $20?

9.8 at IGN:

Amazingly, Halo 4 is not only a success, but a bar-raising triumph for the entire first-person shooter genre.

Can't freakin wait. I took off work next Friday, hoping I can start on Thursday night and play most of the day on Friday and finish it up by the end of the weekend.

Until the 3rd.

Thanks, I better head today. BB isn't near me so I was hoping to be close by at some point.

Makes me wish I had a 360. Oh well, is the next Xbox gonna be backwards compatible with the current games?

10/10 from Destructoid.

This was not a game I had planned to get right away, but the stellar reviews are starting to sway me. Seems like it's going to end up with the best overall scores of the year.

Damn it! Me too! And I even skipped ODST and Reach because I was tired of the Halo series after Halo 3.

So which store still has the best pre-order bonuses?

Well maybe I should just keep my $85 New Egg pre-order after all. If the game is a classic and the LEs are really rare, I might as well just bite the bullet and keep it rather than regretting it later. I have to decide soon.

Re: Halo 4

So looks like the best pre-order deal is from Best Buy. Two armor skins and a $20 RZ cert if you are GC Unlocked. I am not so to join it will cost $14.99 which basically reduces my $20 RZ cert down to $5. Still worth it or wait for the inevitable price drop?

SP Campaign is around 9 hours in Normal, according to my local newspaper reviewer.

He loved the game too.

Like Halo: Reach, there could be the possibility it will be $39.99 before Christmas. However, Halo: Reach was released in September and was already out for three months. I don't know if Microsoft would be willing to do the same this time around.

I'm sorry, I'm gonna get the game like the rest of us, but this guy sounds like such a biased fanboy and the whole review in general isn't very good.

The game is great I'm sure, but it's worth noting that despite these very high scores, it's the lowest aggregate score of the main Halo games. Still a great game I'm sure though, I just don't think it's going to 'change gaming' or something like CE did and like the IGN guy seemed to think

They had a review event Oct. 8 and 9.

That may have influenced some scores. But the game looks great.

While you might not get it right on release day, Microsoft store online you get $25 off your next purchase and "Pulse" armor skin. I ordered this way since I already had a $10 off code from a previous game I purchased, and figure at worst I'll get a 2nd new game for only $35 now.

Thanks Schloob! I was actually just about to post about the M$ deal. I will go with that one.

IDK if this has been asked/answered so Im going to throw it out there. Can me and a friend play split screen campaign on one console, and link up with 2 others online?

No problem, anytime. I figure unless you absolutely need it 1st thing that day it is a solid deal. I know the last pre-release I got from them pretty certain was only 1 day after actual release day. Now I just have to wait on the Black Friday ads to figure out which game I want to use my $25 off or to instead get at the stores due to an even cheaper price that way.
