haha, I beat Black Ops and can't even remember what the ending was like. I'm guessing someone loves Call of Duty since just about every release is on that list.

Super Mario Bros ending was alot more memorable than any CoD game.

Super Mario Bros was, if not the first, at least one of the first video games to have an actual ending. Most games at the time when you got to the end it just looped back to the beginning, and you kept playing until you lost all your lives. The fact that Mario actually ended was pretty remarkable in itself. I know it surprised my 5 year old self at the time. I thought it would keep going forever with "the princess is in another castle." I was floored when I actually found the real castle with the real princess. MAJOR TWIST ENDING!!

And how can you have a best video game ending list without including Bad Dudes? That ending is iconic. I guess whoever created this list wasn't a bad enough dude to save the president and go out for a hamburger with him.

#1 is clearly Empire Strikes Back for the Atari 2600.

Black Ops is pretty great, story-wise.

It's not just 1 guys list.. 13k is enough to get a fair reading.. and apparently lots of COD guys.. I've never played any of them, so i can't comment. FF7 was pretty amazing.

A sample of 13,000 out of a population of 100,000,000 or so gamers is a sample of about 0.01% of the population. So no, its not really enough to get an accurate reading. It shows a lot of bias as well since there are no PC games and other than Super Mario Bros, Sonic, and Super Metroid no other game on the list pre-dates the Playstation era, so I question how random the sampling truly was since the vast majority seem to be younger gamers.

I don't think you can extrapolate that from the list. It could simply be that recent games are fresher in gamers minds, much like Oscar nominations. Also, in the NES/SNES era a lot of games had terrible "Thank You for Playing" type endings.

I felt let down, but maybe anything would have, after putting that much time into the game.

One of my favorite endings came from Darksiders.
