I know he always pleads poverty, but remember this isn't a physical item. Whatever it costs him to develop a game, those prices are fixed and done. Now the more he sells, the more he makes. And I can't think he sells many XBLIG games at 400 points each, especially when so many other more pricey games just dropped to 80 points. I do respect him for being so forthcoming with the business aspect of his job, but I stand by what I said before : I think he's lost him mind now. Anyway, his games are all very good so I wish him luck in the world of PC and iOS gaming.

You can sometimes make more revenue with a higher price point than with a lower one. It's all about the revenue, not overall sales.

He posted this after the price change, showing that the revenue per download increased (the price increase outweighed the dropped conversion rate):

Now, as he points out, he doesn't have data on the total number of downloads, so it's possible the loss of overall downloads meant that the overall revenue dropped. However, if it had dropped significantly, he likely would've dropped the price back down.

Also, he may have been factoring in the pricing for the PC/Mac ports when he did the XBLIG price increase. It can be hard to price a game for $5 on one platform when it's only $1 on another (although Super Crossfire and Inferno+ are enhanced over their XBLIG counterparts). Plus, with the bundle, the games are only about $2.50 each, making it a sale pricing, but still over the original XBLIG pricing.

Now, I'm sure the XBLIG prices will drop at some point in the future, but the price increase wasn't a completely crazy idea.

you nailed it there...it does not matter if he is making more or less now on xbl....he probably looks at other platforms as his main rev stream now...and pricing those games cheaper on the xbox...even if they are not as good...will hurt his other sales...

And I will NEVER buy an Indie game on Steam, even on sale -- with all these bundles, it's just a matter of time until any game I look at gets put into one.

This is the problem with having a bundle start at a set time known in advance. Everyone floods the bundle up front. IndieRoyale learned this with their second bundle.
