It looks like this is going in/out of stock at Amazon much like many of the original and Giant figures did with their original releases. I'd either sit at my computer and refresh every few minutes to see if Amazon gets a few or take advantage of the WM pre-order Gambit posted. It really looks like Activision has been better able to keep up with demand this time out (with the possible exception of these "limited edition" figures). I've only seen a few short occasions where the Swap Force figures have not been available at normal retail (other than the known gouging at TRU). Of course there are the ones who've purchased the Battle Packs and split out characters to sell for more than a intact package (example: the gouger selling a lose Bumble Blast for ~$12 more than a new Fiery Forge Battle Pack!). |

re: Skylanders, Anyone?
I picked up Jolly Bumble Blast yesterday at Best Buy. I don't remember seeing it being posted, but was happy to find the Skylander figures work with the Gamer Unlocked and ring up 20% off.

re: Skylanders, Anyone?
Picked up a Jolly Bumble Blast at BB this afternoon and canceled my order at Walmart that I placed last week and wasn't going to ship for quite awhile.
A much better themed figure than the Halloween Eye Brawl. ;) |
re: Skylanders, Anyone?

Any word on Wave 3 and the final base power? Am I right in thinking parts of the game can't be played until a stealth swapable is released?

Got home from a week in Amarillo to meet my new grandson (born 12/13/13) and had a package with Quick Draw Rattle Shake inside! He's very cool! I like how the GITD is integrated into the figure and not just a full GITD mold like the others. I'm pretty pleased with the speed of shipping Frito Lay has used on the past couple of promotions. That's less than 4 weeks shipping and probably closer to 3.

re: Skylanders, Anyone?
I opened the WM ad in today's paper to find they've joined the Skylanders Price Gouger's Club as they are advertising Jolly Bumble Blast at $14.96! It's *still* $9.96 online so it's obvious they are taking advantage of those last minute shoppers in the store. Of course you *can* order online and pick up in the store but I'd bet most WM B/M shoppers are not aware of that option. It *really* makes me glad I didn't wait for them to show up in the store and ordered from Amazon (who will still let you order from them at the $9.98 price *if* you look at the "other offers" link).

re: Skylanders, Anyone?
It's been a Swap Force day at my house. I gave my grandson the Wii Swap Force starter along with a good group of characters. Overall I'm pleased with the game and it *seems* a bit longer this time out - at least based on the first 4 levels. It was nice that the first level is actually a "level" rather than a "here's how to play" mini-level. BUT I have a few gripes:
The portal is *not* wireless and the permanantly attached cable is *too short*! Our seats are a couple of feet further back than the cable allows. Fortunately I had a USB extension that worked very well to get the distance we needed. At least they could have made the USB cable removeable from the portal so longer ones could be used without resorting to extensions. I like the slightly larger platform on the new portal but I still very much prefer the wireless model. We used rechargeable batteries and had *no* problems with ours. Whoever decided it was a good idea to change many of the button functions from the 2 prior Wii versions needs to have their head examined! The "jump" button is the "A" button which is the *primary weapon* on the 2 previous versions! They moved the "primary weapon" to the "B" button (trigger). Why they didn't put the "jump" on the "B" button is beyond comprehension! To add insult to injury there are *some* areas of the game (mainly the "target practice" bits) where the primary fire button *is* "A". They also changed the button used to interact with NPCs from "C" to "-". While I can live with this one it's so much of a habbit to walk up to a NPC and press "C" that it takes getting used to pressing "-". I thought I might be able to do a quick remap using the Options *but nooooooo*... all you can do there is look at the button mappings! Again very lame. How hard would it have been to allow for such a simple remapping? Did *no one* think of this during development and/or testing? They provided for this in Giants with the flying controls so you could use "real" controls (i.e. pushing forward on the stick goes *down* as in a real aircraft) or the backwards ones some gamers seem to like. I actually played while holding a controller upside down for a while and even though it felt odd in the hand the button mapping worked better for me. Many of the on-screen text/numerical lables (character gold, level, etc.) as well as text in dialog/informational boxes are *too small*. It's like they were all designed to be viewed on a 52" or larger TV. We play on a 32" CRT (yeah... I've not upgraded but as long as this one works I don't see much of a reason) which is not exactly "small". In fairness - *if* I move to the distance the original cable limits us to it's mostly readable other than a few areas where the color choices for the text were poor (mainly some dark numbers). Still... they found room to put a small icon of the character that's on the portal (like you don't know who you're playing with) above the character stats. If they'd dropped the character icon (which is truly not necessary and gets in the way on occasion) they could have made the lettering a bit larger. I also don't care for the way the bad guys appear with a commercial like announcement and slide on/reveal of the name on a mostly static closeup of the baddie. This may change in later levels but it's super annoying on the first 3-4. It truly disrupts the flow of the game. <s>And... *WHY* did they put a Swap Force portal in the first level that requires a ability that's not yet available! That means there's *no* way to fully clear the level until those Earth SF figures become available. How lame!</s> OK... I've found that level 1 *can* be completed if you own Grilla Drilla who has the new "Dig" ability. BUT there is still a ability required in later levels (Sneak) for which there is currently no character available (Stink Bomb or Trap Shadow). The animations of characters being put on the portal are not as good as the first two games but they're OK... the same goes for the Upgrade Pods but I *do* like the fact that Upgrade Pods are scattered in the levels. Other than that the graphics are mostly very good. I *may* find more as we play but a couple of those I mentioned are "biggies" in my book. Don't get me wrong, we *really* like the game but those gripes (especially the jump/primary attack buttons) really make me wonder how much time they spent on development/testing using "normal" gamers and TV sets sized like those in many living rooms (or kids bedrooms). |
