I'll probaly grab the Wii U version soon. I hope someone sells the Wii U download code cheap at some point. I really hate swapping the disks.

My daughter will be pumped when she gets home in a bit after my early morning shopping spree. I was able to get the Dark Starter set for PS4 for 80 and several traps, all of the Trap Masters, all 3 of the packs of figures and the collectors box for the traps. I'll post a couple of pics in a bit. Saving 20% off each and every item at Best Buy made this round much easier to swallow.

Here are the Trap Masters

Here are the Cores and 3-Packs

Here are the Traps and Case

Enjoy! We are skipping out on the minis and will likely skip out on some of the traps but we'll see. Supposedly, Wave 2 will be released on Tuesday and there are supposedly some stores that already have it out. Lob Star looks especially cool.

We finally got around to opening everything including the traps. I have to say that they are nice and sturdy and cool looking. They are also not very big so they will not hog up a lot of space. Here is our collectors box with all 16 traps that we have including Kaos large trap for the Dark Edition. Check it out!

I picked up a few things (mainly to get the Legandary figures) on the TRU B1G40% off sale and saw the case. What is its construction? In your photo it appears to be a thicker paperboard affair.

It is a very sturdy, thick like board you would get in a good boxed set. It is also nicely covered with pics of the baddies that you can trap. It holds 46 traps. I have heard that there will be more than 46 of them you can get.

Underpaid but not dead broke. If I had to guess how much I saved today off of what I would have paid without sales and my GCU discount then it would be around 80-100 bucks. That is just a guess but it has to be somewhere close.

I showed your new pictures to my boy tonight (he hasn't seen the new figures yet) and he asked "Is that the guy who takes all the Skylanders pictures?" I told him "Yes. Yes it is,".

Sweet! We added some more to our collection today. 4 Trap Masters and 2 new core figures. We also added about 15 more varied traps to our trap box. I'll post some new pics as soon as I get a chance to take them. I already ripped everything out of the packaging without taking pics so I will likely do one big group pic of all the new figures.

Are you guys going to get into this one? It is a cool concept and it is neat to hear the baddies talk to you or make noises from time to time through the trap's speaker. My biggest issue with the game is that it installed rather weird on one of my two PS4's. The graphics are nice and the Trap Masters are essentially Giants with Traptanium weapons. We already have 10 of the 16 different Trap Masters and 6 or 7 of the new core figures. There will also be 2 new mystery elements introduced later on. The information as to what they are is already out there and can be found. Overall, I am satisfied with it after having seriously considered not even bothering with it. It is the one thing that I go all out for each year with my daughter, myself and my new baby boy in mind. One day he will inherit our Skylander earth.

re: Skylanders, Anyone?

I don't know if we will. Not before Christmas at least. My wife said emphatically that we're done with those - she's sick of them taking up all this space and honestly he never plays the game any more. However he wants the new one and if he asks Santa for the game and some figures, I can't imagine she won't relent.

If we do go for the game, I don't know if I should get it for the 360 (he has a 360 he plays in the family room) or for a next gen system (which is in my Man Cave and is pretty much off-limits for him). I think I'd lean towards keeping the 360 unless there's a really significant difference in graphics or gameplay.

dsa_shea 10-08-14 01:18 PM

re: Skylanders, Anyone?

I would say that the graphics are an improvement as well as the smoothness of gameplay. The newer systems don't get as overwhelmed with enemies as the older ones. I would consider getting it for the new system and use the game as a father and son time in the Man-Boy Cave. :)

I took the grandkids to Target today to pick up a copy of Nitro Krypt King. That's a pretty cool looking figure! IMHO superior looking to the regular version.

Both kids wanted me to pick up the game today but I said "No - I'm waiting for Black Friday." Target didn't have any "Dark" versions on display - neither did WM when I was there on Monday.

So no deals on the starter kit this week, right? I know TRU has a sale on the figures. I might do the reverse this year, pick up some figures early to get the kids excited and then get the game for Christmas (on sale, hopefully).

That's what I did for Disney Infinity last year. It makes sense -- the figures might get scarce, but the starter packs won't and they're much more likely to be targeted for a BF sale item.

fujishig 10-09-14 11:46 AM

re: Skylanders, Anyone?

Well, I think the problem I ran into, mainly because of the release schedule, is that we played through most of the game, got new characters, and then I had to level them to even have them playable. That should be mitigated somewhat since I'm not going to "catch them all" this time, especially some of the variants.

TRU 40% off this week includes sets, if you want two (buy 1 get 1 40% off).

I was pleasantly surprised when I confirmed that the frito-lay/GameStop mini figures are playable in the game. You can level them, wear hats, trinkets, and upgrade their abilities.

Wait... these things can now *fight* and do real stuff other than follow a character around and generally get in the way?

Here you guys go! Enjoy!

Here is an overhead picture of all the new figures we have.

Here is a picture of our trap box and the traps we have collected so far.

Here is a picture of the Kaos traps.

And finally, here is a picture of the inside of the trap box with most of the baddies that you can capture. There are some secret ones not pictured here.

BobO'Link 10-10-14 12:52 AM

re: Skylanders, Anyone?

That box gives the impression you can have only 1 "bad guy" per trap. I thought each trap could store several at once.

What's with the Kaos Trap in a retail package? I thought that one only came with the Dark Edition. Or is it as it looks - the Dark Edition version has a slightly different paint job?

Jeraden 10-10-14 01:36 AM

re: Skylanders, Anyone?

Yeah, the mini's are fully playable characters now.
And traps can hold multiple enemies, but only 1 is active at a time. You can change the active villain in the trap back in the town, or when you capture a new one. So only reason to have multiple of a given trap type is if you'd always want a specific villain available without having to go back to town first to swap him into your trap.

Yep! The traps are just more collectibles that are unnecessary but are cool to us. It's nice they made that storage box and once I fill it up I will be done collecting the traps.

Walmart's here at least put out a shipper/display or filled the aisle, but the two Kmarts on the other hand as of Saturday still hadn't put anything on the shelf. Target seems to be pushing it quite a bit all of the stores have had the main shelf full, and a check out endcap filled.

There was speculation the Target would get wave 2 Sunday (because Bushwack, Tread Head, and the Undead Hand Trap are pictured in the ad), but checking Sunday, and Monday I didn't see any signs of wave 2.

I was able to grab the Mirror of Mystery (Saturday) from Best Buy, although I had to have someone go in back to get it as it wasn't on the shelf.

Not yet that I've seen. They have a 8 pack trap set with "Steamed Broccoli Guy" up for pre-order, but it doesn't say Walmart Exclusive on it.

My friend that manages a GameStop gave me the life trap with "Riot Shield Shredder" that he got from conference, plus I picked up the water trap with "Outlaw Brawl & Chain" from Target as most stores placed it on the shelf (I'm guessing they got way more than pre-orders).

Or you can call like before - from the rules:

(b) Call Toll-Free: To play without making a purchase, call toll-free 1-866-861-4528 and follow the automated instructions to play for a chance to win a prize (also a "Play"). Callers will be required to provide their phone number, including their area code, and date of birth (as two digits for month, two digits for day, and four digits for year) to verify eligibility. If you are a winner of a prize, you will hear a voice message indicating that you have won (subject to verification). The message will also provide next steps to claim your prize. If you are not a winner of a prize, you will hear a voice message indicating that you did not win a prize.
I also had to enter my zip code after the phone number. Didn't win this time. :( But there's always tomorrow! :)

They're giving away 7,680 - 1 every 15 minutes (like before).

That pre-order doesn't ship until 12/31/14! While it's a better price than individually, I'd like to see a *bit* more of a discount to purchase 8 at once. That price per trap is no different than the 3 packs, just a bigger package.

One of the WM here had lots of figures on the game isle and a smallish (~4' high with a 3'x2' top) cardboard display by the game isle end cap. They had *no* copies of the Dark version of the starter and only 3 or 4 of their "exclusive" (which IMHO is kind of lame).

Target had *lots* of figures, and almost a end cap full of their current exclusive. They, too, had no copies of the Dark version starter on the shelf.

Best Buy has all the wave 2 stuff showing to be available for pickup today but I rarely got by there as it's in the middle of "The Mall" and a royal pain to get to.

K-Mart here *never* has anything, advertised or not, so I never bother going there.

Disney's Infinity, at both WM and Target, had a space about 1/3 the size of the Skylanders display. Based on that I'd say it's not selling that well here.

Edison 10-14-14 03:53 PM

re: Skylanders, Anyone?

I stopped by Best Buy this afternoon and they had wave 2 characters out. There were no wave 2 traps as far as I could tell, and they still hadn't put Mirror of Mystery packs on the floor.

I've got a question for the Skylanders Experts out there....

If a certain kid happen to have about every Skylander out there from day one that is for the Xbox 360 which includes the newest Trap Team....will anyof these work with a PS4 version?

The reason why I'm asking is the last two report cards he has got has been all A's (7 years old) and I'm thinking of getting him a PS4 for Christmas. When it comes to Skylanders I believve he can probably work there because he knows every character and their abilities by heart. You mention Skylanders and he'll talk for 15 minutes non-stop.

if this newer one coming out can use the characters and not one of those "sorry but you need to buy everything new". Plus he's aboiut the same with Lego games and I've heard nothing but good stuff of the PS4 versions.

Yes, you can bring over each and every figure. The only thing you might have to do is take ownership of each one in the menu of the figure. This will add it to your current collection. Have fun!

Wow. You guys are hardcore collectors. I'm just a player.

I have it bad. I'm single, live alone and am somewhat disabled. I don't like to leave my apt so this is where I spend almost all my time. I got my Wii and Skylanders Giants a little over a year ago and both sat unused until about two months ago when I gave Skylanders a try. I've not stopped playing since. (I also have Infinity but don't care for it.) I'm completely taken with the game, presentation and what I call my "little people." Can't get enough of the game.

I have no idea how much money I've spent - I've Giants, Swap Force and Trap Team - and I don't want to know. It's got to be close to $1500, and that's just within the last two or so months. I just love the game and can't wait for next year's game!

I must play 10 or more hours a day. I've really nothing else to do and it's, I think, good for coordination, memory and logic (I tell myself that at least once a day...). Well, it keeps me outta the bars and off the streets.

There's a new game going but I can't post URLs yet.

I guess google Frito Lay Give Away. Again, you win - and this time I think it is an actual toy due to MSRP - a character. It's the toy that was (when?) chosen then named buy 'us,' High Five.

So far, no luck here.
