IGN said that this one is shorter than the last game which is not a good thing. I thought the last game was rather short when you think of how much additional stuff was put in just to find things for characters and not actual levels.

^Wow... that *is* bad. We thought it was a bit short as well (level wise) and were looking forward to something a bit longer based on the interview posted earlier. Of course, it won't stop me picking up a copy. Right now it looks like my Starter Kit for $63 w/coupon pre-order at NewEgg is the best price and the one I'll let go through.

And the gougers are already at it... Amazon has a listing for BATTLE PACK #1 (includes: Dragonfire Cannon - Chop Chop - Shroomboom) with whorders asking $50 up... already... for a ~$25 pack. I sincerely hope these vultures loose their shirts this time out.

You won't see me hitting every damn store this time around. And now that he is in 3rd grade, I see him using his money and waiting much more for figures this time around. Sorry kid.

From what I am reading on darkspyro, the lightcore figures do not have all the powers that the series 2 figures have. They're missing "wow pow". On another note, the darkspyro forums make my head hurt.

For anyone with a local Fry's the original starter packs are on sale for $29.99 this week for 360, PS3 & Wii. Just picked up the 360 one to have to play with my nephew when he visits.

Looks like wave 2 is a TRU timed exclusive and will be out on 10/22... If that is true, this is an insane amount of figures being released.

In a interview with Scott Krager (producer) from E3, he states "Special to the series 2 characters is what we're calling a "Wow Pow". So each of the series 2 characters will have a new really awesome powerful upgrade that will be part of the upgrade chain".

For example, Trigger Happy's wow pow makes his golden machine gun periodically (?) into a flame thrower, as stated though only the series 2 reposes have the wow pow and it's not on the light core figures.


Other new tidbits, Target will have an exclusive light core 3 pack (on Nov. 27) with the wave 1 lc figures (Drobot, Eruptor, and Prism Break).

The 'early' release rumors of wave 2 (10/22) maybe a Toy'R'Us exclusive. There are photos of Hot Head on eBay with a box visible in the background that says "street date 10/22". It seems weird they would get the second wave a month(+) before everyone else, and even stranger they would release it during their B1G1 40% off sale week. That said, I'll still be there Monday to check. :) (scooped by Krayzie)

Some sort of skill. I really have no idea. I just know the lightcore people do an aoe attack when they get summoned as I was at BB earlier today while my daughter played with the demo. Lightcore Prism Break looked pretty cool but I don't know if I want a nerfed character that lights up and costs $2 more.

Some TRU stores are opening early this Sunday... I just noticed mine is opening at 8AM so now I have to go to Target and get out asap to go to TRU across the street.

Of course all of this is par for the course for the company that ran Guitar Hero & Tony Hawk into the ground. It usually takes a few more sequels before exhaustion sets in.

It's more like Dark Spyro on the 3DS. There is a normal blue pop fizz.

I'm going to TRU at 8 am for the sale, and having my wife go to Target for a Granite Crusher. My daughter has her portal owner pack pre-ordered at GameStop so I still have to get out again at 11 for that and my battle pack.

I *really* like the red pop fizz more than the blue one, but unless there is a good sale on the 3DS version a month or so down the road (Black Friday, maybe?) I don't think I'll grab it.

Another quick question...so all these different items mentioned above at different stores, are they just extra exclusives you have to buy separately or is any of this stuff included with your purchase of the game? I want to get my kid the best deal with the most stuff but all this seems kinda confusing. I really haven't been keeping up or reading about it so maybe that is why I am so confused.

Best Buy is the only one giving away something with the game purchase (free bag of junk). The rest are just variations(different paint schemes) on the figures. They're still full price.

Here is the rundown of *exclusive* items. These are all separate purchases except for the WM Starter Pack exclusive. I've commented several other posts to hopefully help you understand just what's going on.

First as mentioned by Krayzie - bolded comments in the post are additions by me.

Michael adds:
Same notes as the other Legendary figures. The "legendary" ones are *all* exclusive to TRU. If you don't have one near you then it's pay whorder prices on Amazon or keep trying to get one from TRU online.

This is a package of Chop Chop (reposed), Dragonfire Cannon (new), Shroomboom (new) - 2 characters and a recolored Dragonfire Cannon (gold instead of silver I believe). Its color is different in game as well but the working of the toy is reportedly the same. Just a color change.

Another separate purchase.

And finally - This is reportedly a color change, like the Spyro in the original game. The color on the character is different in game like the Legendary characters. However, if the character holds true to that association the powers will be slightly different as well.

Awesome post BobO'Link! I went thru everything with my kid with your post so he could know what was out there and decide where he wanted to go.

I think we are going to go to TRU since I just got an email from them today with a coupon for $10 off a $40 or more purchase only between 8am and 9am tomorrow. I have to go out of town but I will make the wife take him. He is super pumped. Plus the TRU ad says that ALL Skylanders stuff is buy one get one 40% off. This will work out well since he was wanting to use his own money to buy some of the new figures.

With TRU coupons, you always have to read the fine print as they like to exclude a lot of things.

My local TRU has a ton of Skylanders and they confirmed tomorrow is wave 2. They won't have as many wave 2 figures and they will be doing vouchers.

Ended up buying the following:
Glow in the dark bundle from Walmart
Granite Crusher from Target
Pop Fizz, Chill, Fright Rider, Zook, Whirlwind, Slam Bam, Ignitor, Trigger Happy, Crusher, Bouncer, Swarm, and Legendary Bouncer from TRU.

l'll pick up Terrafin tomorrow with wave 2.

The only Giant our two Toys R Us received was the Legendary Bouncer. I passed on him until they get other ones to take advantage of the sale. We did get 4 of the multi-packs.

Just got back from a Target/WM run and picked up these:

Target - Granit Crusher exclusive
WM - Swarm, Bouncer, Pop Fizz, Chill, Fright Rider

Target had *nothing* on the floor and I had to wait. There was another guy there also looking for the exclusive Granite Crusher and the Strategy Guide. He'd tried to purchase the guide last night but they took it from him as it "had been put out too soon". When I left with my purchase he was *still* waiting for them to find the guides. We were the only 2 people there at 8 to get any Skylanders.

As WM is a short detour on the way home from Target I stopped in just to see what they had. The associate was in the middle of stocking and I was the only person looking for figures. They had everything Krayzie mentioned but, for now, all I'm interested in purchasing are the new-to-Giants characters. I'm sure we'll purchase some of the others but they are a much lower priority for now. As the associate headed to the back for more boxes he asked if there was anything specific I was looking for that he'd be happy to look for it. Wow! That's a first for me in WM!

General comments on brief examinations of the new stuff:

The paint jobs on the Giants looks more sloppy than on the original set. Every one I looked at had *some* small issue somewhere - typically overpaint or a small spot missed. You would think with them being larger they'd be easier to paint. Considering the 50% price premium I expect better paint work. Maybe I'm being overly critical, but...

That glow-in-the-dark Cynder is *ugly*! It's a pale, sickly, green right down to the skull base. Yes, it's cool that it glows in the dark, but man. The portal is too well hidden in the package to see just what parts of it has the glow in the dark applied. I'm guessing it's the runes since they no longer illuminate. And just *why* was this feature removed? To make it easier and less expensive to manufacture? That's a very cool effect to lose for such a base reason.

I pre-ordered the Starter Pack from NewEgg using a $12 coupon so that savings pretty much paid for the Target Granit Crusher. It should arrive later this week. Of course my grandson wants to go to Target and WM after Church and purchase the game/figure. I've been making excuses so far...

Now it's a decision as to whether to give it to them now or make 'em wait until Christmas... :D

They had zero single figures aside from the one Legendary Bouncer. I heard from more than one person that there will be more 3 packs this time around and less single figures. After reading a few reviews I'm sort of hoping that for the 3rd game they focus on the game itself and less on selling us a plethora of new toys. As a matter of fact I could deal with just a new game and if needed one new figure per element.

I met this guy this morning at Toys R Us. He told me that he was sent several of the figures and the game awhile ago to review. He also said that his son has plowed through the game a few times and that the end boss is far easier than the boss in the first game. He was there to get the Legendary figures. It was cool to run into him.
