Their 5 plus dollars for shipping on one Skylander along with their boosted price makes it not worth it. I was able to grab another Wham Shell for my daughter today on Amazon not including the one that I picked up for Decker and is on the way to him right now.

Figure hunting aside I finally got 1000/1000 last week. Was t too hard but I didn't want to just plow through my kids save file to get it. The one for not getting hit by laser beams gave me problems. Took me abou an hour of restarts to get it.

My PS3 is hooked up to our main TV (also the Blu-ray player) and the Xbox is connected to my home theater. I got Skylanders for PS3 so I wouldn't have to fire up the projector whenever my son wanted to play.

The downside to his dozens of hours of play is I have zero Achievements to show for it

He got it today and was THRILLED. I like Wham Shell -- the metallic paint makes him a little unique. Thanks again for the help.

Now I have to give him the Wrecking Ball figure I won from Fritos and was hanging onto and complete his set.

Anyone else get the "Gotta but them all" trophy/achievement glitch? We have leveled up at least 5 different characters and bought all of their moves. I know their is a workaround but it includes resetting your character, backing up your save, starting the game all over again and leveling up the character from the beginning of the game. What a pain in the ass! Couldn't they have patched this?

My boy got Wham Shell in today and he is ecstatic!

I thought we were done and then he turns to me and says..."Now I just need Dark Spyro!"

:( It never ends...

Not sure about the glitch, but if you've made it to Kaos's Lair, you could easily reset and re-level fairly quickly, especially if you have the Accolades XP bonuses.

However, I believe the glitch was found in the game save meaning I will have to reset my character and then buy his soul gem power. Once I do that I am supposed to backup my save and then delete everything from the PS3 and then start the game over leveling up the character and buying all of the powers from the start of the game. The beginning of the game has nowhere near the leveling up or money power of the latter parts of the game.

My local Target has tripled the shelf space they've dedicated to Skylanders and put out the last few waves. Unfortunately, this is the Target that raised all the prices to 9.99/24.99 a month or so ago. I guess they need the extra space for when the new game comes out.

The new Skylanders game is only a few months away. The kids will go back to school and before you know it we will be out hunting even more figures.

Might as well tell him now and give him a reason to earn some money and save it for the first few characters. Give him some chores to do to earn a buck or two.

Re: Skylanders, Anyone?

I heard that the Skylanders Sidekick promotion with Frito Lay kicks off today. Also, I was wondering which characters you guys have completely leveled up and all abilities purchased for. We have done several so far and I will list a few.

Gill Grunt
Stealth Elf
Drill Sergeant
Wham Shell (One of my favorites.)
Slam Bam

I found that you can level up a character from level 1 to 10 and get enough money to buy all of their abilities in less than an hour. You can do this by playing the very last level leading to the boss. You only play the first part of the level where you can collect the three sets of gems which will net you about 800 gems or so. Also, you will level up your character very quickly to about level 7. Once you get the three sets of gems just allow your guy to die and restart the level. Once I'm completely leveled up and still lacking gems I would just blaze my character from one set of gems to the next, collect them all, let myself die and then rinse and repeat a few more times. You get so much XP during that level that your character will sometimes level up 2-3 times during the first few playthroughs.

Re: Skylanders, Anyone?

I just finished off the platinum on this game and was able to defeat Kaos with Gill Grunt. The whole actual fight took about a minute and would have been over quickly if you could skip all of the excessive talking. Anyways, here are the characters that we have completely leveled up and purchased all of their upgrades:
Gill Grunt
Slam Bam
Wham Shell
Zook
Stealth Elf
Cynder
Hex
Drill Sergeant
Trigger Happy
Whirlwind
Terrafin

We have a handful of others that are oh so close to be finished off and I will likely knock them out shortly. We would like to get at least half of my daughter's collection completely leveled up. Gotta get some of our money's worth out of them.

You can also use the Treasure Chest on the portal world repeatedly for more money. Open the chest, go talk to someone (like Persephone), and press the button to skip the chat. The chest will be "reloaded". Repeat. There are several chest locations close to a character who, when talked to, causes the chest to "reset". Using this method can be quicker than going into a level as you don't have to wait for the NPC to finish their talk to reset the chest or wait for a level to load. The biggest challenge is putting the chest on and off the portal until you get a location that works well with little walking to/from a character. There are 2 locations very close to Persephone with one almost on top of her.

But... If you use the gem method why "die" to end the level? Just use the button on the controller to return to the portal. That should be a bit quicker than waiting to "die".

I believe you can on the Wii. Not sure why the PS3 & 360 lock you into the dialog.

Doesn't work for me on the 360.

I usually just chapter select back to the beginning of the level. I'll try that treasure trick and see if it works. About how much money do you get per chest?

Skylanders Giants starter kits are up for pre-order now at Amazon

I still think even if you already have a portal, the starter kits with three figures and a portal is a better deal at $75 than a basic game + single Giant figure at $60.

Do we know which 3 figures come with it though? 1 new, 1 repose and 1 lightcore?

Re: Skylanders, Anyone?

lol @ Amazon trying to get you to buy a bundle of the Starter Pack & The Portal Owner Pack for only 134.98. I'll likely go ahead and get the starter pack with the extra characters and I'm assuming another portal. You never know when the first portal could tank and it wouldn't hurt to have a spare around. At least it's not like having 5 or more plastic guitars laying around the house like I had before.

Decker 06-19-12 03:24 PM

Re: Skylanders, Anyone?

Hey shea, if they're going to have any luck selling two starter packs to anyone, it might as well be you! Can't blame them for trying ;)

To continue the plastic guitar analogy, if there's some improvement to the portal since last year, such as a wireless 360 version, I'm all for a rebuy. Is the PS3 portal wireless? This might be another example of the 360 proprietary wireless RF tech screwing things up. I know the Wii version is wireless.

I think one would have to be a Giant figure since I'm pretty sure at least one Giant would be needed to play the game. I'd guess one Giant, one lighted and one new figure. I think that's what they said at E3.

edit: Per Goldberg's E3 post

$74.99 - Giants Starter Pack (Wii, Xbox360, PS3, 3DS) – Includes new game software, one Giant, one new Skylander, one Series 2 Skylander, three trading cards, and a poster
$59.99 - Giants Booster Pack (Wii, Xbox360, PS3) Includes new game software and one Giant
$14.99 - Giants Individual Figure
$11.99 - LightCore Skylander Figure
$ 9.99 - Series 2 Skylander Figure

Michael Corvin 06-19-12 05:41 PM

Re: Skylanders, Anyone?

So essentially $15 extra for one new fig and 1 repose. I guess that's decent. I wonder if any of the pack ins will be potential exclusives like the 3DS.

I'm also curious to see if the new portal is any bigger as well.

I forget about doing that. Much faster than going back to the portal world.

To be sure about the coin amount I just played a bit. I got lucky and the treasure chest appeared at one of the points very close to Persephone the first try. I got 280 coins per reset and was able to rack up 4000 coins in under 5 minutes. I've read that this "trick" only works on the Wii so if you have a different platform it might not work for you but it's worth a try just in case. I didn't take time to try your method to see how long it would take to build up coinage but will do so the next time we play a level or three.

Just did a pre-order for a "Starter". IMHO it's worth the extra $15 for a spare portal even if that's the only difference. It doesn't hurt that we have 2 Wii systems and I could always set up the second portal on the other system for those times I would rather watch TV on the main set.

Amazon shows the release date as 12/31/12. I hope that's incorrect and they are hedging this some as I've read it's supposed to be sometime in early Fall. I'd really like it to be under the tree again this year.

I certainly hope not! My grand son is now constantly saying: "The only one we need is Dark Spyro" and wishing for a 3DS starter to get one. I don't know how long I can hold out on giving them that starter I picked up a while back. It's very tempting to take Dark Spiro out of the set and give him that but hold the rest for a while longer. He's also discovered, via the official site, that Dark Spiro is available as a single overseas. He makes a point to mention this on occasion hoping I'll do an overseas order for one!

Based on the photos posted earlier it looks like it's the same size but with an orange bottom plate instead of green - to go along with the base color on the Giants, new, and reposed figures.

The PS3 Portal is wireless.

BobO'Link 06-22-12 11:51 AM

Re: Skylanders, Anyone?

Several other vendors are showing a 12/31/12 release so maybe it's been pushed back. That seems a bit odd as you would expect Activision would want this available for Christmas Gift Giving.

Also - several sites are indicating the "Owners Pack" does indeed have a single figure - a Giant. So the "Starter Pack" with 2 other characters and a new portal is definitely worth purchasing for the $15 difference in price.

Here's what I've read about the new portal (from darkspyro.net):

...a slightly different appearance to the old one; the base of the portal (previously green) now glows the same colour as the top but the runes on the side no longer glow at all.
That site also says:

Toys R Us will again have several Skylanders exclusives, all unknown at this point.
Bummer... :(

I was hoping to see this one a bit sooner than later. After beating the last game and leveling up some characters we are now ready for some new adventures. You would have to bet that this will be out by the end of November at the latest unless they are running into some major problems.

Two of these showed up at one of the Wal-Mart stores here and my grandson snatched one up while out with his great grandparents. He showed it to me this morning. It's a very cool looking figure! We were walking down the hall from his Sunday School class examining and discussing the sculpt and wondering if the color is what's under the paint on the normal one. I overheard my mom comment to my dad (they were a couple of steps behind us): "It's like a couple of kids talking about their new toy".
