Official Forza 4 Thread - If In Doubt, Flat Out!

I know racing games aren't huge here, but how the hell isn't there already a Forza 4 thread?

Comes out Tuesday, and I can't wait. I've had my Fanatec 911 GT2 Wheel, Shifter, and Clubsport pedals for a while, so I'm definitely ready. After playing the demo it was amazing how much better this game feels compared to Forza 3. Suspension work, handling, and force feedback is a huge improvement over Forza 3, much more realistic. Sound is also hugely improved, it's a night and day difference.

I doubt we'll have enough people here to start an interesting car club, but we'll see.

I tried the demo and it seemed pretty much exactly the same as Forza 3 to me, so I'll pass. Especially since I still haven't finished the insanely long career mode in Forza 3, and I've been working on it a little at a time since that game was released.

Not trying to be negative about the game or anyone who gets it, hope you enjoy! I admittedly don't know the first thing about suspension work, handling, or force feedback. I play Forza 3 with every possible assist on, so I basically just steer.

I did notice that they're including some (optional!) Kinect integration, which I'm interested in hearing more about.

I’m picking it up on Tuesday. Just don’t know if I’m getting the regular or collector’s edition yet. Been trying to finish Forza 3 for the past couple days in the meantime.

Yeah, that's understandable. I think for more casual racer's this game won't be as interesting. Some of the things they have added, off the top of my head:
- Brand new lighting system, allows different times of day on certain tracks (still no night racing though)
- Additional graphical improvements.
- Improved sounds (so improved!)
- Autovista (Car Porn!!)
- Kinect support (includes Head tracking)
- A few new tracks (I forget which), some old tracks reworked, new textures/models for all.
- Improved Handling/suspension, much more realistic.
- New race modes, including Autocross.
- New cars (of course)
- More in depth career mode, changes around whatever car you want to drive, and doesn't force you to drive specific types of cars.
- Car clubs
- Rivals Mode
- 16 player online

There's some other stuff, but a new racing game is like any other sports game (yes, racing is a sport), the changes are often a lot less subtle on the surface.

I'm a casual fan of racers, but for me, they're kind of like fighting games -- a little too similar from one to the other, a little played out over three generations of gaming system and now really catering to the dedicated hard-core fan base rather than the casual gamer.
I won't be buying it next week, but it's a possibility for an upcoming Buy 2, Get One Free deal. Let me know what you think of it.

I'm also curious about the Wireless Speed Wheel controller. It's a motion sensing controller, but with no centering feature like a traditional wheel, I'd be concerned it might be hard to drive in a straight line down the middle of the straightaways. Also no LB or RB buttons means no manual shifting. I'm guessing it's not worth picking up. I can't believe I passed on the wireless wheel when it was on clearance for $50. Now they're going for hundreds on eBay.

Interesting choice of words there, but i shall digress ;)

I've been playing the demo a lot. I really like the "rivals" mode and since i have a few friends who will be playing this that's gonna be fun trying the best each others times. I certainly like the new physics of the cars. As much as i played the crap outta Forza 3 i always felt that could be improved and it certainly has.

I'm always a last minute kinda person but i thought i was early going to EB/Gamestop a couple weeks ago to pre-order the LCE but they told me they weren't taking any more pre-orders for it. I'm off work Tuesday so i will hit the stores(starting with Walmart since they open at 7am here) and just hope i can get lucky and get the Limited Edition but if not i will have to settle for the regular one..

Everything I've been reading from people who have been using it for Forza 3, Dirt, etc, have really liked it. I'm actually pretty surprised, as when it was first announced I thought it was incredibly stupid. It sounds like it is actually a good in-between for the controller and a real wheel.

I don’t think you’re missing out on much. I bought the wheel when it was $50 and ended up returning it. I couldn’t get it to work right with Forza 3, GPR 4, or Dirt 2. Using the wheel should be fun and actually put you more into the game, not take you out. It’s nothing like the Logitech wheel that’s out for the PS3. That said, I am looking forward to trying that new Mario Kart looking wheel when it comes out.

If anyone has a preorder code from Best Buy for the BMW 1M and wants to trade it for the WRX STI code from Amazon, send me a PM.

Can't find an online link for it, but on the dashboard, there's a free add-on for a BMW 2012 M5 and also there's a free Forza 4 BMW Premium Theme that's pretty nice, actually. I guess it's sponsored, but it doesn't at all look like an ad except that all the cars are BMWs.

edit: Found them.

Went to Walmart this morning and got the Limited Collector's Edition. It's a very nice looking set.

Time to race! :D

Stuck at work, plus Amazon won't be delivering mine until late afternoon. :(

I'm going to stop by Kmart on my lunch break and pick up the LE too. Nice that it comes with the $20 coupon too.

Decker 10-11-11 08:39 AM

Re: Official Forza 4 Thread - If In Doubt, Flat Out!

When Kmart gets any LE versions, its usually one or two per store. If you wanted it, I wouldn't wait until lunch.

edit : Your post got me thinking, so I went to Kmart on the way to work and picked up an LE just in case. Still not sure if what's included is worth the $20 surcharge, but the scarcity of the title led me to at least hedge my bets. Still not sure exactly what's in it or whether it'll appeal to me, but since my store only got two copies, I figured it would be better to grab one now and wait for online opinions later

Yeah, I called when they opened and they had three so they held one for me. By the time I got there a couple hours later the other two sold, so I'm glad I did.

If anyone picks up the new controller, please post your thoughts here. I couldn't even find any reviews on it yet.

Speed Wheel is $44.95 shipped from Buy.com through eBay today. Tempting...

It's nice to have a fastest lap on the leaderboards, even if it is just for the 1st day

Loving it so far

Anyone here also have GT5 want to compare and contrast the two?

Nice, detailed CNET review

edit: Not so detailed, but still positive Destructiod review.

That was enough for me. I went ahead and ordered one from the buy.com Ebay listing. $44.99 with free shipping and no tax is cheap enough for me to take a shot at it. Unfortunately, I doubt it'll work with Driver SF (since you need to navigate all over the map when "shifting". Maybe there's a way with the D-pad. That game would be a lot of fun with this peripheral if it works properly.

Wow, the M5 is a 370 MB download. Is that only for one car? Are they usually that big of a file per car?
