I'm still hopeful the game overall will be as good or better than DS2, which I greatly enjoyed... Then I'll use the $20 credit to get Crysis 3. |

Dead Space 3 Dev Hints at ‘Disturbing’ DLC
“A top secret additional story that will be coming in a few weeks.” Dead Space 3 developer Visceral has hinted at new story content set to come shortly after launch. In a blog post on Dead Space’s official site, Dead Space 3 executive producer Steve Papoutsis teased that new downloadable content will be coming sooner than you might have expected. “The team is hard at work on a top secret additional story that will be coming in a few weeks,” Papoutsis wrote. “We're not saying much, yet - but think ‘disturbing’ to get your imaginations going.” Papoutsis also mentioned “some Day 1 DLC suits, like the Marauder, Sharpshooter, and Tundra Recon suits, that you might choose to pick up,” as well as the N7 armor announced last week. He noted that custom skins are “built for our collectors out there, who like to stand out from the crowd when playing DS3 in co-op.” http://www.ign.com/articles/2013/01/...disturbing-dlc |

looks like you get a weapon and suit if you played mass effect 3 and dead space 2.

Re: Dead Space 3
Executive producer spills the beans on DLC and additional modes on the Dead Space 3's blog.
"Two of the additional modes, Classic and Hardcore, have clearly been made with Dead Space veterans in mind. Classic mode is a single-player only affair that ditches the game's new crosshairs and resource management elements, which should make Dead Space 3 feel more similar to its predecessors. Hardcore mode, on the other hand, only gives players one life for the entire campaign. Dead Space 2's punishing Hardcore mode allowed players just three saves for the entire game, but offered an immensely powerful weapon to its survivors. There's also a classic New Game+ mode, as well as a Pure Survival mode where everything in the game has to be crafted. "Enemies ONLY drop resources, and there’s no ammo, health, or weapon parts to be found," said Papoutsis on the Dead Space blog. "You’ll have to choose what to craft every time you see a bench. Upgrade? Med Pack? Plasma Core? Think fast -- there’s a Waster right around the corner!"" |
Re: Dead Space 3
Dead Space 3 Has 11 Pieces of Day One DLC
Dead Space 3 will launch with 11 pieces of day one DLC available, offering services ranging from speeding up loot collection to new suits and weapons for Isaac. According to Eurogamer, most of the purchasable upgrades tie into the game's crafting system, specifically the scavenger bots that you can use to salvage weapon parts and resources scattered around the game world. It's worth noting that these DLC bundles are separate from the micro-transactions in the game's weapon crafting system discovered last week. Three packs were spotted on the US PlayStation store that'll allow you to soup-up your little helpers, each priced at $4.99. One will increase your bots' capacity, another will strengthen its personality and the final one will speed up its loot collection. Prices for Europe and Australasia haven't been unveiled yet. Taking to the Dead Space blog, executive producer Steve Papoutsis explained the purpose of the scavenger bots, writing, "Everybody will find at least one of these bots in the game (and there a couple hidden ones to pick up, too.) The Scavenger Bot is an autonomous robot that can harvest resources for you and deliver them to the Tool Construction bench. Resources include stuff like somatic gel, scrap metal, tungsten - materials that you can use to craft into anything you want, like a health pack or weapon part. "As a replacement for DS2’s credits, resources are a key part of the Dead Space 3 experience, and their placement in the game has been well thought out by our game designers. Whether by looting enemies, opening lockers, or exploring the world, you’ll find more than enough resources in-game to fully experience DS3 on any difficulty level. "The scavenger bot's purpose is to give you an extra edge, since there's a bit of gameplay (and risk/reward) to using him and finding the richest resource caches. You can also choose to download upgrades to the scavenger bot that double his capacity or speed up his trips to the bench." The other packs available include new weapons and suits for Isaac, as well as those included in special editions of the game. The cost for these varies between $0.99 and $4.99, with the latter being more common. Finally, as is becoming woefully commonplace these days, an online pass will be available for $9.99 so you can play online if you haven't bought a new copy of the game. http://www.ign.com/articles/2013/02/...of-day-one-dlc |
Re: Dead Space 3
The Dead Space games are easily my two favorite games of this generation and even I don't like where they're taking this. I read a brief article about the "micro transactions" when they were first announced and the author made an excellent point; one of the aspects that make the game so great is its immersive style. Like your health bar being integrated in the suit, and the story gets moved along by characters communicating via the holo device on your wrist. I'll add to that: There's no score or map or anything on the screen to take you out of the moment. There are hardly any cutscenes. The level transition using the vents in Dead Space 2 was brilliant, as in once you started playing the action never stopped.
Now they go and add this feature that takes you completely out of the game so you can use REAL money to buy ammo and whatever else. I know it's been stated that stuff is optional and the game can be completed without it. Maybe so. But then they go and add a Hard Core mode that gives you 1 life. Or a Survivor Mode where there are no ammo drops and you have to craft everything. I'm guessing that souped-up $4.99 scavenger bot will be kinda necessary for that mode. I know I don't have to play that mode, but I will. And it'll probably make me want to spend more money. Fuck You EA! All that said, still a Day 1 purchase for me. And it'll most likely be my favorite game of the year  |

Re: Dead Space 3
I wavered back and forth on whether or not to cancel my pre-order of this. I waited a bit too late and now it's "Shipping Soon" from Amazon. Oh well, between the $20 Amazon credit, selling the pre-order bonuses for absurd amounts on eBay, and finishing the game as quickly as possible and then trading it while the value is still high, I'll likely make a net profit like I do with most new releases these days.
As for the game itself...my body is ready for epic disappointment. I'd love to be wrong about that. |

Probably later today I'd guess.
I heard Game Informer gave it a 9.75. |

Re: Dead Space 3
Fuck!
Great that I waited. It was a rollercoaster of emotions for me. When it was announced I was ready to preorder, then heard about coop and decided to wait, then read some articles and was interested again, then the demo and lost interest LOL!, and then I saw a fucking commercial in TV and got excited again... but thankfully decided to wait. Still, probably buy it when it's under $30. |

Re: Dead Space 3
Those scores are better than I expected and with Polygon's 9.5, I'm kind of upset I didn't just go for the $20 amazon credit since the game jumped up on my radar. It was low because, while I loved the first two, I wasn't thrilled by the demo and I've been bitten too often recently with "sequel-sameness". Oh well, I'll wait for the price drop in a few weeks or the next big B2G1 deal.

Dead Space 3: Awakened DLC Announced
EA has announced new Dead Space 3 downloadable content called Awakened. Set to arrive in March, Awakened introduces “the franchise's darkest chapters as the Necromorph battles become even more gruesome and terrifying than ever before.” Awakened will be available on PlayStation 3, Origin and PC for $9.99 (800 Microsoft Points), but no specific release date has been announced. http://www.ign.com/articles/2013/02/...311e4a190000c5 |

Re: Dead Space 3
The first hour of the game, and I was really getting worried. It was not bad, it just was NOT dead space. Now that I am 2 hours in I am calming down a bit. It feels like Dead Space again. I don't like the changes to the weapons and ammo, but this is going to be a fun game...

Re: Dead Space 3
Maybe my expectations were low after what I'd read (or after suffering through the dreadful Assassin's Creed III), but I'm midway into Chapter 2 and I really like it. The game can still scare the crap out of you, the graphics are excellent, and it's great to be stomping some !)@#(* again. It does have a different feel to it at first, but so far, overall, I'm really liking the game.

They look a bit more cartoony than I remember. The camera seems a little awkward and crooked and I don't remember the other DS games being like that. Could be I have forgotten though and just have to get used to it. These games always take a few chapters until you really dig in so I am giving it the benefit of the doubt until I am at least a 1/3 of the way through. Got the trade release of the Dead Space: Liberation in yesterday and started it after playing the first chapter. I like it and the artwork is nice. It adds a nice depth to the person you meet right at the beginning of chapter 2 of the game. The music and sounds are what make it DS for me. I just love the sound effects for these games, from opening doors to using your guide. |

Re: Dead Space 3
I don't care what reviews say nor did I bother downloading the demo because I was 100% going to buy this on day 1. I'm 5 chapters in and so far it's very much Dead Space and then some. I'm digging the new weapon system. It was a little daunting when I first got to a bench but after playing for a bit and collecting upgrades and parts it makes more sense. I also like how there's only 1 type of ammo and it works across ALL weapons (hopefully it stays that way for the rest of the game). I hated how in the first two games the necros always seemed to drop ammo for weapons I didn't have.
I'm one of the biggest Dead Space fans there is and I'm loving this game so far... not sure why it's getting bad reviews and people say "it doesn't feel like dead space". Makes me wonder if these people have even played it (other than the demo). The guys with guns is like the first 10 minutes. But it fits with the story so it works, IMO. After that first chapter it's been nothing but very Dead Space-like necro-overrun space junk. What's the problem with that? |
Re: Dead Space 3
First playthrough complete. Overall I'd say I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed it, despite having plenty of complaints about certain changes. It's significantly longer than the previous two games (I clocked in at 18:39), though there's so much repetition and backtracking in the game I'm not sure if that's a good thing. It is visually astounding if nothing else. I might share some more thoughts later.

Re: Dead Space 3
There is backtracking in every DS game, god i remember all the backtracking in the first game but i didnt mind it. Im about 2 hours into the game and im loving it. Games freaky as ever since the normal necromorphs are a little faster and you can get cornered easily unless you roll. Overall it feels and plays like DS should, im not sure how i feel about the new weapon/crafting system, its something different so it may just take a little more getting used to. personally i give DS a solid 8/10

Are we talking Devil May Cry 4 levels or backtracking?
My biggest complaint with the game, as expected, is how action-packed it is. Part of what made the previous entries in this series, especially the first one, so great was the uncertainty when entering a new area -- will this be a safe place with no enemies, or will there be 1, or will it be one of those horrifying rooms with 5 or more? In this game, don't worry -- there will always be 20, everywhere. And then 1 more for a scare. And then 1 more because that scare wasn't enough. Furthermore, the previous entries always thrived on that feeling of "Will I be able to hold my aim steady and cut off the limbs of all these monstrosities coming towards me before they get to me?" It was a major aspect of what drove the suspense and horror. In this game, every enemy sprints at you at full speed and starts hacking away, without fail. But don't worry, the game throws medkits and ammo at you like they're candy to "balance" things out. It all becomes very predictable after a while, and results in a lot of the tension being gone. There are also a lot of very repetitive action-focused sequences later in the game that I won't spoil here. Those are my major, no-spoiler beefs with the game. But there's also a lot of positive in this title, and I think anyone who likes Dead Space won't regret playing it. The atmosphere is still there, there's plenty of creepiness, and I was amazed at the variety of settings you get to visit after having the impression from the publicity materials that the entire thing would involve trekking through snow. It might honestly be the most visually-impressive game of this generation, at least scenery-wise. I liked the change to make ammo generic across all weapons, simply because it makes inventory management less of a hassle. And you can build some truly great weapons with the new crafting system, once you figure it out (the interface is pretty terrible, though). |

Re: Dead Space 3
I agree. Excellent summation. I still disagree on the backtracking aspect though. It seemed to me after completing the optional missions (which are the MOST difficult missions in the game IMO), there was always a door that acted as a shortcut back to where the mission started so there was no backtracking at all. Actually I can remember a few times where I actually wanted to backtrack to drop some stuff off at a bench and the game wouldn't let me because it locked the doors behind me. The only way out was forward. I rarely remember having to trek through any of the same rooms.
You're description of the enemies is spot on. They are relentless and they ALL move twice as fast as you do. I can't imagine playing on Impossible difficulty because there is literally no safe spots. And they seem to constantly spawn behind you. I don't necessarily see that as a negative though, I think it adds to the tension. It gets pretty frantic at times. I think the story and characters in this one are the best of the three. I actually want to play co-op now because I really started to like his partner at the end. Professional reviews don't mean shit to me, but I'm truly shocked this game is getting 7's. I'd say it deserves at least a 9 out of 10. It's Dead Space in every way, and they still managed to change enough things to make it feel new. |
