Borderlands 2 Mechromancer DLC Tentatively Dated

Borderlands 2’s Mechromancer DLC has a tentative October release date and a definite price.

Speaking at PAX Prime, Gearbox boss Randy Pitchford said that the DLC, which adds a new character class to the game, could be with us on October 16th for 800 MSP. For those that pre-order the game the DLC will be free.

That’s in contrast to previous reports that have said we should expect the DLC around 60 days after the launch of the game next month.

The Mechromancer is a female character with a skill tree designed to help less skilled players thrive in the game. It made headlines a few weeks ago after one of the devs referred to it as “Girlfriend Mode.”

Of course, the Mechromancer DLC isn’t the only downloadable content coming to Borderlands 2. Gearbox has a schedule of add-ons, constituting four expansions, that will run between launch and June 2013.

Available separately for 800 MSP, you can guarantee yourself all four of the add-ons by buying the Season Pass for 2400 MSP.

I have this thing preordered at Best Buy, but am going to be out of the country for a week when it's released. Will I likely get screwed out of the bonuses or do they actually keep the pre-orders behind the counter?

In the past, it's usually held behind the counter for a week. You might want to check with your store.

question! Does the retail version come with a steam code? I preordered at gamestop, but wondered if that means I won't be able to get the DLC from steam or not

Cool thanks, turns out I had the release date of this off by a week anyway, so I should be good.

I'm still undecided as to which. I love playing the Siren in the first one using her SMG's (probably the most played one) but loved "The Birdman" just as much with his Pistols. The other two I didn't get enough time time to really enjoy.

I'm leaning Maya...again since her "Phase Lock" seems to be quite interesting and provide crucial ability in co-op play. Plus she also retains all the other elements...fire, corrosion, shock and explosive. She also helps in healing along with having fast movement.

But Salvador looks like he'll be a blast...litterally. No real flashy ability except "Dual Weapons" and just shoot and beatup any and everything. Just a Two-legged Tank with an attitude.

I do think "Zero" is probably the most underated but very important especially in co-op. With the Hologram, vanishing, sniper and melee moves he's probably the most versatile in wide-range combat.

Axton is basically Soldier 2.0 with some serious upgrades to the Turrent. His primary weapon is again the Assault Rifle though I didn't see much as to deplying the Turrent helps other players much.

I'll probably do as I did before...have a "co-op" character and one or two single play characters.

Gamestop said they were the best pre-order place for the first game so 2k is rewarding them with unique bonuses.

At least what I was told. I have like $200 credit there, so thinking of picking this up.

They are getting a unique dlc. Personally, I doubt it will be that great for anything other than early level characters.

Yeah, I would rather have the $20 BB reward certificate. There is always a chance it will come out as dlc anyway.

Yeah looking at it that way you're essentially paying $20 for a Moxxie arena.

i have been heavily leaning towards a Gunzerker for the longest time, but I'm liking some of the skills for the commando. my buddy already said he's going to be a siren, so i guess i'll have to figure out which is a better character to complement that one.

and after sitting down and really looking at the skill trees, i'm gonna start as the Commando. I'll play Gunzerker on the 2nd play through.

and i just mapped out my "perfect" skill tree for the commando and printed it out.

10 bucks for a single character? I know I know...you get it free if you preorder, but I think anyone who has every attacked Capcom's prices of characters needs to apologize...lol..

or the just REALLY want you to feel good about pre-ordering their game...

Just wait for the backlash when it's just a 108kb unlock key since everyone needs the character model & data for online play...

I am sure people will start complaining if gearbox decides to release Super Ultimate Borderlands 2 next summer.

Re: Borderlands 2: "xbox360/ps3/pc" -2012

Considering what some are saying the SP time involved, I don't think it's a big deal. Heck, for that matter it's doubtful many will even get thru two characters let alone all four of the original ones. Being free to those up front is a good deal. For those who buy later they have the option of yes or no but in any case no-one is going to get bored for a very long time with the four main chracters.

And of course, the DLC will probably go on sale 14 times in the next year and a half.
