Wait a second here... Are we saying the consumers want something the IP holders aren't willing to sacrifice?

That's fine, it's just my opinion. I don't leave old console hooked up, but they are around if I want to play them. I still bring out the Commodore, Atari, etc.. on occasion.

Ideally, yes everything would be backward compatible, but it doesn't bother me.

I doubt Amazon will offer the system period any time soon, much less take preorders. You will see it pop up on the marketplace, but not from Amazon directly.

The Walmart bundle isn't that bad of a deal if you want a game with the system and an extra Remote+ or better yet the new Pro Controller.

Walked into work this morning and found out that my store (Best Buy) was done taking reserves as of this morning. Seems we got three in-store reserves and the rest were done online. This will not be a fun midnight launch...

Wait, it will let me get the deluxe console with this option, and if it does, I get NintendoLand and another game? Both say out of stock online.

Well, we don't really know why they're leaving out Gamecube compatibility. It may depend on what kind of architecture they use for the new system. I guess it's related to the Wii since it plays Wii games, but there may be some technical reasons why GC support may not be straightforward. Perhaps the disc drive is an issue? Maybe the controller and memory card ports are hard to include, especially when they want to keep the thing small?

Or, perhaps they want to monetize the GC catalog with HD collections like Sony has done. An HD Mario Sunshine would make me want to buy this thing.

Haven't they already removed Gamecube support from the newest Wii's? Why would anyone to expect them to have it on the Wii U?

I'm trying it right now to test and it lets me pick the 32GB version, a game from the list, and the Pro Controller and I can get to the screen that says "Place Order".

Just this morning they started selling a 3DS again, so there's hope that they're working something out.

Same here.....definitely worth looking at. The "sold out" part kind of worries me.

Same here....I tried to add it to the cart and it said something along the lines of

"Your requested quantity is not available. Please choose a smaller quantity."

Anyone think this is a problem? It still shows up as being in the cart too.

I'm so weak. The link made it too easy, especially after camping out in 30 degree weather for 13 hours for the Wii. I guess the Nintendo launch day streak stays alive for one more generation.

Welcome to the club MC, once again.

Which extras did you pick?

I wasted, oh, I'd say around 48 hours of my life or so trying to get a Wii. I will NOT do that again.

Keep in mind, you won't get it on Sunday if you order from Amazon (if they ever get it).

That wouldn't be an issue, for me. Just glad to have one secured.

Re: Nintendo Console Announced at E3 2011 (Wii U)

It looks like the Amazon listing for the 3DS XL has already been removed, so who knows what is going on.

I have mine paid for at GameStop with NSMBU. The only reason I'd order a second one using Amazon would be to, well, resell it.

I'm really excited about Nintendo TVii as well, even though I really have no clue how it works exactly. I have Charter cable so hopefully it will be compatible together.

32GB and went with Mario. I figure that will hold its price longer than Pikmin or Rayman....especially Rayman. Then nabbed the black Pro controller.

Now I have a stack of games sitting in front of me to dump on half.com to offset a tiny bit of this purchase.

Re: Nintendo Console Announced at E3 2011 (Wii U)

I hear ya. Like I mentioned before, I sold my 360 and everything with it to pay for it and I'll likely unload a bunch other games to fund a few more Wii U titles. At launch, I'll end up with both NSMBU and ZombiU, then I'll wait for reviews before I decide on anything else for the time being. I can't forget the upcoming 3DS games in all of this though, so I've gotta make room for that, as well as for the PS3 games coming out that I'll be buying for sure as well.

Here is the latest list of "Day 1" titles:

Nintendo Land (Nintendo)
New Super Mario Bros. U (Nintendo)
SiNG Party (Nintendo/FreeStyle Games)
ZombiU (Ubisoft)
Rayman Legends (Ubisoft) - Confirmed on Nintendo.com
Assassin's Creed III (Ubisoft)
Just Dance 4 (Ubisoft)
Rabbids Land (Ubisoft)
Marvel Avengers: Battle for Earth (Ubisoft) - Confirmed on Nintendo.com
ESPN Sports Connection (Ubisoft)
Your Shape 2013 (Ubisoft)
Batman Arkham City: Armored Edition (Warner Bros.) - Confirmed on Nintendo.com
Scribblenauts Unlimited (Warner Bros.)
Game Party Champions (Warner Bros.) - Confirmed on Nintendo.com
Darksiders II (THQ)
Disney Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two (Disney)
NBA 2K13 (2K Sports)
FIFA 13 (EA) - Confirmed by EA
Madden NFL 13 (EA) - Confirmed by EA
Mass Effect 3: Special Edition (EA)
Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed (Sega)
Call of Duty: Black Ops II (Activision) - Confirmed on Nintendo.com; Activision says "out for the holidays"
Transformers Prime (Activision) - Activision says "out for the holidays"
Tekken Tag Tournament 2 Wii U Edition (Namco Bandai)
Tank! Tank! Tank! (Namco Bandai)
Rise of the Guardians: The Video Game (D3 Publisher)
Ben 10 Omniverse (D3 Publisher)

Going a bit past day 1 though, I'm actually starting to get interested in Lego City Undercover. Oh, and if The Wonderful 101 ends up being a launch day game then I'll likely get that one as well.

What's the word on Wonderful 101? It reminds me of Viewtiful Joe for some reason.

I'm not sure how I feel about the analog placement on the Pro Controller yet. For something like Black Ops II I can see it being a bit of a pain having buttons below the analog stick, I'm sure I can get used to it, but it's no 360 pad. At least it's better placement than the PS2/PS3 gamepad.

At least part of the team that made Viewtiful Joe is on the team that made this new one I recall reading somewhere. That's the 1st thing that came to my mind as well when this 1st premiered at E3, loved VJ on the Gamecube. If not for the price on WiiU, this title would actually make me pick up the system just as much as the Mario game would.

Re: Nintendo Console Announced at E3 2011 (Wii U)

Was looking up some of the rarest Super NES, Gameboy, etc. games and found out that Super 3D Noah's Ark is pretty rare. A couple of recent ebay auctions closed for $150 and $190 for just the cart. The copy I have is complete with box, game, and instructions. Think I'll just sell mine off to fund the WiiU purchase

Ahh that's cool! Now if only they could get Rare back for a Blast Corps sequel...

I don't really get the complaints on the price I've been reading about, it's apparently more powerful than a PS3 and comes with a tablet controller for $50 more (the Playstation equivalent (Vita) is $250 now - yeah I know not the same, but...). Doesn't seem like that bad of a deal, though I suppose I expect most new technology to be $300 - $400 starting.

Yup. Feeling the same way. Time to raid the backlog of stuff to offset this purchase. I need to at least cover 50% to justify it. But, I'll at least get the pre-order in and decide later.

I funded my Gamecube purchase by selling Mega Man, MM2 & MM3 complete and in mint condition. IIRC, I got over $100 each.

Managed to dump a rare PS3 game for $100 on ebay last night. Sold pretty quick. Guess I should have marked it up more.

So I'm off and running.
