re: Battlefield Talk
I'm glad all those sniper bullets I took to the face ended up being helpful. :)
Well, the final final is turned in... and the TV is still at the old place and the PS3 is still at the new place. *sigh* The Internet gets transferred over to the new place on Tuesday or Wednesday so I may be on during the latter half of the week. We'll see how rusty I am after nearly three weeks without playing at that point. |

re: Battlefield Talk
I just finished the single player campaign for this game. Then decided to checkout the online gameplay and looked at the servers. Every single one required some sort of DLC to play on them... so no online for me.
|
re: Battlefield Talk
Did you buy a used copy or a new one? The online pass that comes with the new copy unlocks the maps. They didn't release any DLC after that besides the Vietnam expansion. You can also specify, if you bought used, only servers that are included free and play those maps.
|
re: Battlefield Talk
I got a couple buddies who have hemmed and hawed over whether to pay $35 for the game so I think I'll go ahead and buy them this $5 copy and if they like it they can buy the DLC.
I might get the whole system connected and be on in the later hours of the evening, finally. |
re: Battlefield Talk
How much are the map packs in the PSN store, by the way?
|
re: Battlefield Talk
I believe that the VIP code for the map unlocks costs 14.99. I THINK the VIP code may come with all new copies though, not just the ultimate edition. Could be wrong tho.
Of the other content that comes with the ultimate edition, Onslaught Mode is 9.99 and Battlefield 1943 is 14.99. Of the DLC that doesn't come with the ultimate edition, SPECACT is 5.49 and Vietnam is 14.99 EDIT: Another thing I just remembered, I think all DLC codes were supposed to expire in April of 2011, but I just redeemed my Onslaught/1943 code a month or 2 ago when I started playing this again, and it still worked. Can't speak for the VIP code though, as I redeemed it when I orginally started playing this (I didn't realize there were 2 different codes until I opened this back up recently). So even if there is a code, it may or may not work, or they may have stopped including the VIP code in new copies, since it's supposed to be expired. |
re: Battlefield Talk
So basically my buddy could take the $4.99 copy of the game, go to the PSN store, and get the map pack unlocks for $14.99 and forget about Onslaught, etc.?
|
re: Battlefield Talk
He would take the $4.99 copy of the game, it is a NEW copy. Redeem the pass code. Have access to all the maps, just no Onslaught or 1943, etc.
|
re: Battlefield Talk
Onslaught and 1943 are worthless anyway.

re: Battlefield Talk
Turns out the $4.99 copies are the PS3 Greatest Hits edition with the red-lined case tops. The BFBC2 Ultimate Edition copies were still upwards of $36. Picked up a couple to send to friends so if they get into it and I finally get the whole system set back up again I may end up in some non-DLC map rotations for a bit.

As such, I can't imagine that they would ship new copies of the game without the VIP code. Then again, EA is nothing if not stupid. |

re: Battlefield Talk
Then I'm confused. What's the difference between these editions:
BFBC2 PS3 Greatest Hits Edition (the edition I picked up for my buddy for $4.99) http://www.amazon.com/Battlefield-Ba...8224617&sr=8-4 BFBC2 http://www.amazon.com/Battlefield-Ba...8224617&sr=8-1 BFBC2 Limited Edition http://www.amazon.com/Battlefield-Co...8224617&sr=8-5 BFBC2 Ultimate Edition (the one I picked up for myself in 2011) http://www.amazon.com/Battlefield-Co...8224617&sr=8-3 Basically, my question is, will my buddy be able to play all of the maps in all of the modes with the PS3 Greatest Hits edition? Maybe I need to cut it open and see if it has a VIP code. |

Ultimate edition came with 1943 and Conquest codes, which I have but consider mostly worthless. Limited Edition was simply a preorder edition with early access to a few weapons and vehicle perks, much like the limited edition of BF3. |
re: Battlefield Talk
I'd start here, and email them your amazon receipt along with an explaination of what you were doing "i.e. recruiting friends/family to play their game"

re: Battlefield Talk
Yeah, I sliced open a copy's wrap and found there's no VIP code in there, though there's an advertisement for Battlefield 3 so it's not as if it's been sitting on the shelf long. I'll have to look into placing a call to EA and seeing what we can do.

re: Battlefield Talk
Our first-ever wall mount for our TV is scheduled to be delivered on Friday and I hope I'm at our new townhome to get it (our leasing office accepts packages but they're closed on the weekend). If timing works out, I should be able to get it set up this weekend and perhaps hop on to play next week.
We ditched our old, bulky TV stand in the move and are going with the 2 x 4 Expedit storage unit from IKEA: http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/pr...088/#/50103086 We have several of these in various sizes around the home already and we dig the style and color. As an entertainment center hub, it looks great flanked by our IKEA Billy bookcases for DVDs, BDs, and CDs (with glass see-through doors): http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/13690607/ I'm putting the receiver and PS3 on top of the Expedit to keep them out of our baby girl's reach since standing up and pulling things down is likely to be her new favorite activity by the end of the summer (plus the inner storage cubbies are a perfect fit for the PS3 but too narrow for the receiver). With those on top it gets a little cramped to have the TV on there, too, and the receiver is tall enough it would block the lowest part of the TV anyway (gotta know how many tickets we have left!), and so here we are preparing to wall mount a TV for the first time. Sorry for the amazing rambling story. I've been up to my ears in finals, moving boxes, meetings and presentations, work, and finding new child care for our girl since our new one turned out to be a bust (long story but wow, what a seemed-good, no-good place). I haven't had much adult contact beyond business stuff. So questions: 1. Any advice on wall mounting a 42" HDTV for optimal viewing and gaming experience? Height, tilt, etc.? The wall mount has extender arms and is VESA and weight-rated for our particular TV. 2. Anybody want to set up a night to play BFBC2 and/or BF3 next week, Monday thru Wednesday? 3. How are you? |
re: Battlefield Talk
1. No particular advice, thought it will vary whether your TV is a Plasma or an LCD as to whether you have to view it dead on or not.
2. Yes, and you would actually play BF3 again? I haven't actually played it since Feb but have been meaning to, only the last time I popped it in to play I had about 2 hours worth of download and install. I let it run and didn't play. 3. Between work, new baby, and the rest of the family tired! 4. How did the move itself run? |
re: Battlefield Talk
1. We'll likely view it dead while on the main couch on though the extender arms will let us view it at an angle from the dining room or the side couch. Plus they'll pull the TV out so the bookcases don't block the view on either side.
2. Heh, I threw that out if it would mean anybody would actually play with me.Yeah, I've been thinking about it a little bit though I'm sure I'm rusty enough that I'd get owned over and over. If the install is that big (and I hear there's a new patch coming June 4-5 anyway, according to the Battlefield Facebook page) maybe I'd hold off on that and do BFBC2, if anyone is open. 3. Speaking of that new baby, I assume you're working on building some sort of backyard clubhouse for the Spatula / Yaw / Flip / R2 Daddy-Daughter Battlefield-and-Tea Party in summer, 2015. 4. It's over, that's the important part. Got the keys to the new place on May 1 and the big move was May 12 and my youth group helped out, getting 90% of the stuff moved over. We got the last 10% out mostly in one trip last week and just a tad over the last couple of days. I was mostly in charge of getting stuff moved over while my wife cleaned the old place top to bottom over the last four days while I watched our daughter (as I said, the new day care we tried turned out to be a bummer) and tried to finish the final projects that are due like now. Tough timing, really stressful month. Breaks my heart to see how tough the transition is on our girl, especially. But it's done. Turned in the keys today, May 31. Six years at that place and the new manager wanted to raise the rent 13% with no negotiation. Found a place that's the same size for a few hundred less per month and half the commute time for my wife. We're happy. Sitting in a coffee shop trying to stay on task with that final project. Next week I get a few very deserved days off and my wife gets a food dehydrator; treat yo'self! |

New Jersey...everything I dreamed it could be. Sigh.
Snagging wi-fi from the apartment office, since we're right next to it, but should have proper internet on Mon or Tues. |
